Former Canadiens First-Round Pick Announces Retirement
Beaulieu, 32, was selected by the Canadiens with the 17th overall pick of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. From there, he played his first five NHL seasons with the Canadiens from 2012-13 to 2016-17, posting seven goals, 53 assists, 60 points, 152 penalty minutes, and a plus-19 rating in 225 games.
Beaulieu's time with the Canadiens ended during the 2017 NHL off-season, as he was traded to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for a 2017 third-round pick. From there, he had stints with the Sabres, Winnipeg Jets, and Anaheim Ducks. In 471 career NHL games over 11 seasons, he had 12 goals, 86 assists, 98 points, and a minus-14 rating.
Beaulieu's last season in the NHL was in 2022-23 with the Ducks. He then played his final two professional seasons overseas. During the 2023-24 season, he played for Kloten HC of Switzerland's National League, where he had two assists and a minus-6 rating in 13 games. He then played eight games this past season with Barys Astana of the KHL, recording one assist, 12 penalty minutes, and a minus-5 rating. After being released by Barys Astana, he signed with HC Nove Zamky in Slovakia but did not play in a game for them due to injury trouble.

Osaka to work with Wiktorowski on trial after Mouratoglou split
Japan's Naomi Osaka, a four-time Grand Slam singles champion, will work with Polish coach Tomasz Wiktorowski on a trial basis after splitting with Patrick Mouratoglou after less than a year together. Osaka announced the parting with Frenchman Mouratoglou, the former coach of superstar Serena Williams, on social media on Monday before defeating Canadian qualifier Ariana Arseneault 6-4, 6-2 in 76 minutes in a first round match at the WTA Canadian Open in Montreal. Osaka, ranked 49th, began working in Canada with Wiktorowski, who coached Poland's Agnieszka Radwańska from 2011-2018, helping her reach the Wimbledon final and world number two ranking in July 2012. Wiktorowski also coached Poland's Iga Swiatek from late 2021 until last October, a run where she won four of her six career Grand Slam singles titles, before adding the most recent at Wimbledon earlier this month. Osaka, who improved to 11-1 in matches against players ranked outside the top 100, will next face 13th seed Liudmila Samsonova in the second round. They have split four prior meetings but Osaka won the two they played on hardcourts. Former world number one Osaka, 27, began working with Mouratoglou last September. "Merci Patrick it was such a great experience learning from you," Osaka posted on social media. "Wishing you nothing but the best. You are one of the coolest people l've ever met and I'm sure I'll see you around." Mouratoglou said on Instagram he was "grateful for the trust, the journey and what we have built together," and told Osaka he "will always root for you." Under the Frenchman's guidance, Osaka reached the Auckland final in January but retired after the first set with an abdominal injury. She won twice at the Australian Open but retired after the first set in her third match with the same injury. Osaka won her first WTA title since the 2021 Australian Open in May at the L'Open 35 de Saint Malo, but fell in the first round of the French Open and the third round at Wimbledon. js/lp

After an impressive semi-final yesterday, the Canadian swimmer won the 200 IM in 2:06.69. McIntosh took a comfortable lead from the start and touched the wall two seconds ahead. The 18-year-old is now the first swimmer to break the 2:06 barrier at the meet. She was followed by Alex Walsh in 2:08.58, while Canada's Mary-Sophie Harvey picked up the bronze in 2:09.15 On Monday, McIntosh had to balance a demanding schedule, which included two events: the 400 free final and the 200 IM semi-finals. Today, she was provided a better opportunity to claim her second world title in Singapore. McIntosh's performance was almost only a second off her world record of 2:05.70 set at the trials in June. However, the swimmer was expecting more from the race.'Going in tonight, my goal was to get my hand on the wall first, so to get that done is good. I'm not super happy with my time.' Gretchen Walsh Wins 100 Free On Monday, Gretchen Walsh secured the first gold medal for Team U.S. Walsh, who was heavily favored to win the 100 fly, secured the podium finish in 54.73. The 22-year-old claimed her first-ever individual gold at the 2025 Worlds, while registering the second-fastest performance in history. Taking down Sarah Sjöström's championship record from 2017, the Nashville-based swimmer was seconds behind her world record time set in May. In a post-race interview, she opened up about her experience winning the race despite battling 'acute gastroenteritis,' which the team picked up at the training camp. 'It was not easy, and I'm just really proud of myself.'' Gretchen Walsh is one of the most consistent swimmers produced by Team U.S. She has consistently excelled in yard and short-course pools, with multiple records and titles to her name. However, since last year, Walsh has established herself as more than just a 'bathtub swimmer.' Qualifying for her debut Olympics by breaking the 2016 world record in the 100 fly and claiming two gold medals in Paris, she has showcased great performances in long-course pools. With Olympian Sarah Sjöström skipping the season, she will now look forward to winning the other three events she qualified for as well: 50 fly, 50 free and 100 free. In the 100 breaststroke, China's Qin Haiyang successfully claimed back his world title. Surpassing Paris Olympic champion Nicolo Martinenghi, Haiyang won the event in 58.23. Martinenghi, who faded in the second half of the race, managed to touch the wall in 58.58 and was followed by Denis Petrashov of Kyrgyzstan, who took bronze in 58.88. After facing disappointment at the Paris Olympics, Haiyang has made an impressive comeback this season. The 200 backstroke world-record holder, who claimed the first gold for China, is now more confident heading into the upcoming events. 'I'm competing in three events, and they're all tough ones. Even if I didn't win the gold today, I've done better than yesterday, and that's enough for me.' Haiyang stated.
