Euro 2025: Girelli's two goals lift Italy over Hegerberg's Norway into semifinals
Girelli's 90th-minute header, her second goal of the game, sealed a 2-1 win over Norway, whose captain Hegerberg had tied the game after missing a penalty.
Italy will return to Geneva next Tuesday to face either Sweden or England for its first Women's Euros semifinal since 1997.
The 35-year-old Girelli had seized the lead for Italy in the 50th by deftly guiding in a shot fired across the Norway goal by Sofia Cantore.
Hegerberg leveled the score in the 66th with her first scoring chance just six minutes after missing a penalty kick for the second time at Euro 2025.
Hegerberg ran clear to a long pass and poked a shot past onrushing goalkeeper Laura Giuliani. The slow-rolling ball just beat the Italian defenders in a race to the goal line.

Serious injury curtails Atherton LR's friendly at Darwen
Atherton LR's penultimate pre-season game on Saturday came to an early end following a serious injury to Darwen's Nathan Emery. Prior to the game, former LR players Ryan Talbot and Akim Samms featured in the Darwen team news with Samms contributing during a small stint late last year, while Talbot was a crucial player during the 2024/25 treble campaign for the Yellows. The LR team news saw the return of Joe Bickerstaffe following a back injury during the Bury game two weeks earlier. LR put in a strong opening 30 minutes, with Lewis Adams and Abiola Obasoto commanding a good defensive shape showing a marked improvement from last Tuesday night's draw. Tom Lawless and Cal Hunter combined well with some early breaks with the help of Joe Bacon and Kieran Nolan - with manager Dave Jones later claiming it to be a 'much more structured performance.' A sign of bad things to come came following an off-the-ball incident which saw Adams receive a ligament injury after a collision with the pitchside barrier - the captain had also had issues in the previous game which was certainly made worse by this incident - leading to an early substitution for LR. The game came to a close early following a 50-50 challenge which unfortunately caused Salmoners player, Emery's leg to break - forcing the referee to stop play and eventually abandon the game - a decision which was supported by the LR backroom staff. The fixture will not be replayed and everyone at Atherton LR wished Emery a speedy recovery, with the player later posting on social media, 'Ill be sound. I've come back from it before, ill do it again.' Boss Jones said: 'We were competitive, looked good in our defensive shape and dangerous on the break - a much more structured performance than Tuesday night.' Atherton LR's final pre-season game will be against Cheadle Heath Nomads at Crilly Park tonight.

David de Gea opens up on incredible failed transfer to Real Madrid
Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has commented on his sensational failed move to Real Madrid in the summer of 2015. United icon De Gea joined United from Atletico Madrid in 2011 and played 545 games for the Red Devils before leaving in the summer of 2023. Nonetheless, the necessary documents never made it on time as there was incredibly a problem with the fax machine sending the paperwork and the deal never happened due to the missed deadline. Speaking to Italian media Cronache Di Spogliatoio (via the now Fiorentina keeper gave his two cents on the matter. He stated, 'my failed transfer to Real Madrid? At the end of my career, I will talk about what happened. In the end, it didn't happen and I think some things happen for a reason.' The Spaniard added, 'I stayed in Manchester and I was happy.' Missed opportunity Whilst United fans will be grateful the Spain international ended up staying so long at Old Trafford, there may be a tinge of regret for De Gea. The Red Devils did win some trophies during his time at the club but their achievements pale into insignificance in comparison to Madrid who would win the Champions League in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2022 and 2024. Juventus enter talks for Atletico Madrid full-back Nahuel Molina
Juventus have initiated talks with Atletico Madrid for the potential signing of full-back Nahuel Molina, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport. With Newcastle United pressing for Nicolo Savona, Juventus have prioritised strengthening the right-back position this summer. Molina has emerged as a top target for the Old Lady, and the Argentine could be on his way out of Wanda Metropolitano.
