Hajjah... Intensive efforts in implementing community initiative projects
Last year (1445 AH), Hajjah province witnessed the implementation of dozens of community initiative projects that addressed the needs of the community, supported by the local authority and the Central Emergency Developmental Interventions Unit of the Ministry of Local Administration and Rural Development.
The surge in popular engagement in executing community initiatives reflects the directives of the Revolution Leader, Sayyed Abdulmalik Badruddin Al-Houthi, and the Head of the Supreme Political Council, emphasizing the activation of societal roles in various fields, particularly road projects.
The contributions of the community, the local authority, and the Central Interventions Unit culminated last year in the implementation of 70 initiatives at a 100% completion rate, with a total value of 705,206,618 Yemeni riyals. The community contributed 43%, the Interventions Unit 32%, and the local authority 25%.
Five excavation machines ("Baklainat") were purchased for the districts of Al-Mahabisha, Qarah, rural Hajjah, Najrah, and Bani Al-Awam at a cost of 276,014,000 riyals, with the local authority contributing 191,014,000 riyals, the Interventions Unit 60 million riyals, and the community 25 million riyals.
The community's interaction in implementing these initiatives reflects growing awareness and a sense of responsibility in actively supporting state efforts in construction and development, painting a national picture of progress toward the revival project launched by the late President Saleh Al-Sammad under the slogan "A Hand that Protects... A Hand that Builds."
Hajjah Governor Hilal Al-Sufi stated in a comment to Saba News Agency that community efforts in the districts have made significant strides in construction and development, in response to the directives of the revolutionary leadership and the Supreme Political Council to rely on local capabilities.
He affirmed that road projects are among the top priorities in the province's plans and programs due to their importance in easing transportation burdens for citizens, facilitating access to essential services, and accelerating local development while expanding agricultural production.
He praised the community's engagement in implementing sustainable projects and contributing to development, noting that community initiatives receive considerable attention within the local authority's tasks. He stressed the commitment to supporting initiatives based on available resources and mobilizing society for active participation.
He also highlighted the revolutionary leadership's interest in implementing and supporting initiatives through the Central Emergency Developmental Interventions Unit, which has spared no effort in aiding the province —a key motivator for community-driven projects.
He commended the integrated efforts between the local authority, district councils, the Bunyan Foundation, and cooperative associations.
Meanwhile, Engineer Shihab Al-Shami, Executive Director of the Central Interventions Unit, emphasized the commitment to continuing support for these projects to advance developmental and service work in Hajjah and other provinces, in line with the revolutionary leadership's guidance and the directives of the Supreme Political Council and the government.
He stressed the importance of concerted efforts among all parties, especially given the country's difficult circumstances, urging the preparation of studies according to approved models from the Unit and the local authority to facilitate endorsement and support.
He praised the local authority's dedication and the people's engagement in executing projects and contributing to development despite the challenges imposed by ongoing aggression and blockade.
Engineer Al-Shami described community initiatives as a vital complement to official efforts in accomplishing developmental projects, noting that the Unit is expanding its programs to support such initiatives.
A technical report from the Community Initiatives Support Department in the province, obtained by Saba, revealed that 540,611 beneficiaries in the districts of Al-Mahabisha, Hajjah Center, Al-Maghrabah, Al-Miftah, Bakil Al-Meer, Bani Qais, rural Hajjah, Khayran Al-Muharraq, Sharas, Kuhlan Ash-Sharaf, Kuhlan Afar, Mabyan, and Najrah benefited from projects implemented last year with the Unit's support.
The report stated that community-driven projects in the targeted districts included paving, expansion, surveying, and retaining wall construction. Excavation work totaled 254,286 cubic meters, including 75,671 cubic meters of earthwork, 72,126 cubic meters of rock excavation, and 106,489 cubic meters of mixed excavation, while surveying and expansion work amounted to 94,896 cubic meters.
Abdulwahab Sanan, representative of the Central Emergency Developmental Interventions Unit in the province, stated that the Unit contributed 233,575 liters of diesel and 10,739 sacks of cement to support completed initiative projects.
He added that the Unit supported the local authority with 60 million riyals to purchase excavation equipment for Al-Mahabisha, Qarah, and rural Hajjah, provided 9 air compressors in districts for stone-cutting in projects to ease the community's burden, and contributed to skilled labor wages for the first and third phases.

US praises Yemeni forces led by Tariq Saleh for foiling Houthi weapons smuggling attempt
The US has praised Yemeni forces led by Gen Tariq Saleh for intercepting a shipment of weaponry allegedly smuggled to Houthi rebels. US Central Command said security forces confiscated drones, jet propulsion systems, wireless devices, and advanced control components on August 6 from the Port of Aden. The cargo, bound for the Houthi-controlled port of Hodeidah, was uncovered during a joint inspection by counterterrorism, customs, and police units. Officials said the operation was co-ordinated with the public prosecutor and port authorities. Led by Gen Saleh, Yemen's National Resistance Forces (NRF), which carried out the operation, is a coalition of anti-Houthi forces loyal to the internationally recognised government. Gen Saleh, a nephew of the late president Ali Abdullah Saleh, is an army commander. He is a member of the presidential council of Yemen and played a leading role in coastal battles against the Houthis before becoming a central figure in the Red Sea forces. The US accuses Tehran of smuggling advanced weapons to the Houthis, a charge Iran denies. In recent years, US and allied naval patrols have intercepted shipments of Iranian-made drones, cruise missile components, and small arms believed to be headed to the Houthis. Experts said these supplies have enabled the rebels to expand long-range strikes on shipping lanes and regional targets, including western warships in the Red Sea.

Yemen Forces Interdict Illegal Weapons Systems and Equipment Bound for Iran-backed Houthis
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) congratulates the Yemeni National Resistance Forces (NRF), led by Gen. Tareq Saleh, for displaying their capabilities and commitment to stop the proliferation of weapons and illicit material bound to Iran-backed Houthis. On Aug. 6, Yemeni security forces, in coordination with the Public Prosecutor and Port of Aden authorities, seized a shipment containing drones, jet propulsion systems, wireless devices, and advanced control components bound for Iranian-backed Houthis. The cargo, which was destined for Al Hodeidah, Yemen, was rerouted to Aden and discovered during a joint inspection by counterterrorism, customs, and police units. According to Yemeni authorities, the shipment was part of a broader smuggling network that uses the Houthi-controlled port of Al Hodeidah to funnel advanced military equipment to regional terrorist organizations. The seizure supports United Nations Security Council Resolutions (UNSCR) and reinforces Yemen's commitment to regional stability and maritime security. Adm. Brad Cooper, Commander, U.S. Central Command, praised the action saying, "For the second time in three weeks, we commend the legitimate government forces of Yemen who continue to interdict the flow of Iranian munitions and equipment bound for the Houthis. This seizure highlights Iran's ongoing role as a deliberate malicious actor in the region. Limiting the free flow of Iranian support to the Houthis is critical to regional security, stability, and freedom of navigation.'

UN Warns Half of Yemen's Population Now Faces Hunger Amid Escalating Crisis
The United Nations has issued a stark warning that nearly half of Yemen's population in government-controlled southern areas is now facing acute food insecurity, with conditions expected to deteriorate further in the coming months . According to the latest update from the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), approximately 4.95 million people are currently experiencing crisis-level hunger or worse, including 1.5 million at emergency levels. By early 2026, this number could rise to 5.38 million—over 53% of the population in these regions . The crisis is fueled by a combination of relentless conflict, economic collapse, currency depreciation, and increasingly severe weather. Recent Houthi attacks in the Red Sea have further choked vital supply routes, exacerbating the humanitarian emergency . Humanitarian agencies including the World Food Programme (WFP), UNICEF, and FAO are urgently calling for sustained international support to prevent further deterioration. 'More and more people in Yemen don't know where their next meal will come from,' said Siemon Hollema, Deputy Country Director of WFP in Yemen .
