‘It ruined my life for a month' – Nathan Aspinall admits ‘horrific' abuse to him and his family ‘hurt deeply'
NATHAN ASPINALL claims "s**" he received on social media over his contentious Premier League selection "ruined my life for a month".
The Asp, 33, is ranked tenth in the world but was picked for the £1million invitational event at the expense of higher-ranked stars Dave Chisnall, Jonny Clayton and Damon Heta.

Cynics argued that Aspinall – who lost to Luke Littler in the World Championship quarter-finals on New Year's Day – was only in the tournament because he has a catchy walk-on tune.
There is no denying that his choice of song – Mr. Brightside by The Killers – is a fans' favourite and it gets the crowd buzzing whenever it is played in big arenas.
Yet this was at the detriment of Aspinall's capabilities as a darts player and the abuse he received online hurt him deeply.
Aspinall said: "I'm not going to lie, it was s**. It was hard. It was horrific.
"I came off social media because of the abuse I was getting.
"I'm not exaggerating here but it ruined my life for a month. Not just my life, my family's lives, too. It was horrific.
"But I'm a professional sportsman, you have to deal with it. And I put things in place to deal with that.
"Me and Gezzy (Gerwyn Price) received both the same treatment and have used it to our advantage. I've enjoyed this Premier League campaign more than anyone.
"The standard has been out of this world. All eight players have done themselves credit.
"It has been the most competitive Premier League there has ever been – the most entertaining and exciting."
Nathan Aspinall shows frustration with outburst playing against Martin Lukeman
Aspinall won Night 15 at the P&J Live arena in Aberdeen and by beating Michael van Gerwen 6-3 in the quarter-finals, he leapfrogged the Dutchman into fourth spot in the table.
He arrived in the Granite City feeling 'dead relaxed' after three or four days at home, lying in the sunshine, with the kids in the paddling pool and a lit barbecue on the go.
Should Aspinall beat fifth-placed Van Gerwen, 36, next Thursday in Sheffield, then he will qualify for the Playoffs at the O2 Arena on May 29 – which would fulfil a lifelong dream.
If he loses, then he must pray the three-time world champion, who is four points behind, does not win the night in South Yorkshire and collect the five-point bonus – otherwise Aspinall will finish fifth for the third year running.
Littler, Luke Humphries and Price have already secured their berths as they battle for the £275,000 top prize.
The former World Matchplay champion said: "I've said to my family, 'I don't want to come fifth again.' It's so hard watching it on TV.
"Getting FaceTime off Van Gerwen or whoever is in the playoffs, saying, 'Wish you were here, mate'.
"The pressure is on Michael. I will prepare for it like it's a do-or-die game. It's in my hands now.
"Van Gerwen is my idol in darts, the GOAT of darts, and if I can qualify by beating him on back-to-back weeks that would mean more to than any other darts player."

Liverpool transfer belief behind huge Wirtz bid as Slot eyes next two targets
Mirror Football takes a look at Liverpool's summer transfer window so far in what is expected to be a busy couple of months as boss Arne Slot and sporting director Richard Hughes work away The confetti had barely been cleared from the Anfield pitch after Liverpool 's Premier League title celebrations and the focus was firmly on making sure the trophy will remain there next season. This summer is going to be busy for the Reds if the first few days of the transfer market being open are anything to go by. This will be the window when Arne Slot starts to really put his touch to the team. Not only to make it more his squad, but also to ensure that they can compete on four fronts next season. This is a summer of adding more depth and moving on players who do not fit the criteria or - in the case of Caoimhin Kelleher - need to be guaranteed much more playing time. Those close to the club stress there is not a transfer war chest to be splashed out on but recruitment will be backed by the owners, FSG, and sales. The mantra remains the same. Spend on what they believe is value rather than for the sake of it. That is why there must be huge belief within the club that Florian Wirtz is a sensational footballer with potential to be even better otherwise they would not be submitting eye-watering nine-figure offers. While the signing of Jeremie Frimpong, also from Bayer Leverkusen, in a £29.5m deal is more the deals we have been accustomed to seeing the Reds make. A low - in today's market - release clause being met to get a highly-rated player who is versatile enough to play in different positions, even if pushing Conor Bradley for a right-back starting spot may be the initial aim. It is clear that this is - while being led by sporting director Richard Hughes - the start of Slot putting his touches to the team after his first summer saw the only arrival being Federico Chiesa on a cut-price deal. For all the talk of last season being Slot turning the Reds more orchestral than the heavy metal football of Jurgen Klopp, those within the club felt the changes to the playing style were more subtle than that. Slot worked with what he had got. He shifted Ryan Gravenberch to the No.6 role while the full-backs were not given as much freedom to roam and more control was asked from the front line. It brought a 20th English league title when many expected them to be battling it out for a Champions League spot at best. Yet Slot was still not content. He wants to win the title again but also go further in Europe. The Dutchman knew against PSG that Liverpool struggled with their frantic press and pace with the Reds going through a slight lull at the time they faced the soon-to-be-crowned European kings. That could have been down to his own overreliance on the same players. He was also concerned about how Newcastle 's midfield in the Carabao Cup final were too physical for the Reds but he is not adding muscle to match that. Instead, it appears more pace, flair and creativeness is how Slot is going about it. Wirtz is a deal that is expected to get done given the Reds have elbowed in ahead of Manchester City to ensure they're the destination of choice for the Germany attacking star. Frimpong is done with Trent Alexander-Arnold going to Real Madrid, with £10m banked to end his contract early. Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez is wanted while a striker could be dependent on who leaves this summer. Slot is starting to structure his team with the rock-solid foundation of a Premier League title to build upon, along with Mo Salah 's goals, Virgil van Dijk's defensive prowess and Alisson's steady hands. It is why many across Europe believe Anfield is the place to be at the moment.

England need 246 to claim ODI series clean sweep against West Indies
After arriving to the ground late for the third ODI at the Kia Oval because of heavy traffic in the area, the Windies fell to 28 for three and then 154 for seven, with Adil Rashid taking three wickets. Rutherford had missed the Windies' defeats at Edgbaston and Sophia Gardens after deciding to stay at the Indian Premier League but he provided some much-needed ballast following their top-order failure. After his dismissal for 70 off 71 balls, Motie (63) took the baton alongside Alzarri Joseph (41) in a blistering 91-run stand off 68 deliveries to lift the Windies to 251 for nine – with England needing five runs fewer on Duckworth-Lewis-Stern. A combination of a couple of broken down buses, a traffic lights failure and roadworks over a River Thames bridge contributed to the Windies' tardiness from their hotel three-and-a-half miles away, which – along with a 95-minute rain delay in their innings – led to a shortened 40-over game. The tourists' practice time was shortened as play got under way half-an-hour after the scheduled start and they were quickly three down in next to no time as Evin Lewis, who was back following a groin injury, and fellow opener Brandon King miscued to catchers in the ring. When captain Shai Hope was bounced out by Saqib Mahmood for the second time in the series, it seemed they could vanish without trace. Rutherford led the recovery well, finding some fluency through the off-side while he was strong off his hips and put on 62 with Keacy Carty, before the Cardiff centurion perished for 29 shortly after the rain break when chopping on off Rashid, who then claimed two in two balls. Justin Greaves was caught well low down by Ben Duckett, who put down two catches at Cardiff, while Roston Chase hung out his bat to his first ball and nicked to Joe Root, who also spilled a catch last time out. Number eight batter Motie smoked Rashid's hat-trick ball for six but Rutherford departed when pulling Brydon Carse to Harry Brook, who took an excellent chance diving to his right at mid-on. Hands, Harry 👏 — England Cricket (@englandcricket) June 3, 2025 England's hopes of a quick finish to the innings were dashed by Motie and Joseph, though, with the lower-order pair feasting on some wayward bowling, with the hosts guilty of overusing the short ball. Mahmood then Carse were both pulled into the stands by Motie, while Will Jacks was taken to task by number 10 Joseph, who top-edged to Matthew Potts at short third to end a buccaneering union. Motie was then castled from the final ball of the innings, through his shot as he was deceived by Potts' back-of-the-hand delivery.

Bruno Fernandes reveals reasons behind decision to remain at Manchester United
Bruno Fernandes has revealed that he rejected a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia n club Al Hilal to stay at Manchester United. The United captain said he wants to carry on playing in the major competitions and said that manager Ruben Amorim kept asking him to remain at Old Trafford. And Fernandes, who could reportedly could have quadrupled his wages, said his wife and Amorim persuaded him to stay as he preferred to carry on competing for trophies in Europe. He explained: 'There was that possibility, the president of Al Hilal called me a month ago to ask me about it. It was a big offer, very ambitious. There was a waiting period for me to think about the future.' Fernandes' Portugal teammates Ruben Neves and Joao Cancelo play for Al Hilal but Amorim has often said he wanted to keep his compatriot and stated last week on their post-season tour of Asia that he was confident the midfielder would stay. Fernandes has won the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup during his five-and-a-half years at Old Trafford and hopes for more trophies but said he would have gone to Saudi Arabia if United wanted to sell him. And Fernandes added: 'As I have always said, I would be willing to do it if Manchester United thought so. I spoke to the coach Ruben Amorim who really tried to talk me out of it. The club said they would not be willing to sell me, only if I wanted to leave. If I had wanted to leave, they would have made it happen. 'I spoke to my wife and family, and she asked me what my personal goals were in my career. It would have been easy to move there but I want to keep myself at the highest level, playing in the big competitions and I feel capable of it. I am happy with my decision.' Fernandes scored 19 goals and got 19 assists to be named United's player of the year for a fourth time, but they still recorded their lowest league finish for half a century. And Fernandes, speaking as Portugal prepare to face Germany in the Nations League, admitted: 'Our season was very tough. We weren't able to achieve our goals.' While United were not willing to sell the 30-year-old, they are open to offers for a host of other players as they prepare to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62.5m and are interested in Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo.
