Virginia teen killed in crash in Dumfries
A teenage driver was killed, and three others were injured in a crash near Dumfries Road and Van Buren Road.
The 2013 Audi A7, driven by 18-year-old Mihai-Mario Stoica, crossed the median into oncoming traffic, colliding with a 2024 Cadillac Escalade.
The crash is under investigation, and the injured were transported to nearby hospitals.
DUMFRIES, Va. - A teenage driver was killed and three others were injured in a vehicle crash late Sunday near Dumfries Road and Van Buren Road.
Police report that 18-year-old Mihai-Mario Stoica of Woodbridge was driving a 2013 Audi A7 eastbound on Dumfries Road when the vehicle crossed the median into oncoming traffic, colliding with a 2024 Cadillac Escalade traveling in the opposite direction.
Investigators believe Stoica was driving above the posted speed limit at the time of the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 25-year-old man who was a passenger in the Audi, an 18-year-old driver of the Cadillac, and a 32-year-old passenger of the Cadillac were transported to nearby hospitals with injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.

A SUSPECT is due to appear in court to face staggering romance fraud allegations – from financial strife in Belize to needing heart surgery, and even the sale of a canal boat. Marc Cole-Jones is accused of conning six complainants out of more than £590,000, one of which is believed to be from Warrington. He faces 22 charges of fraud by false representation before Warrington Magistrates' Court today, Monday. Now, the extent of the allegations has been laid bare through his charge street – including alleged claims of being in 'financial crisis on holiday in Belize'. It is also alleged that Cole-Jones defrauded people through joint business ventures including an aesthetic clinic, and cars including a Range Rover, Land Rover, Audi, Mercedes, and a campervan. Another charge was that he allegedly portrayed himself as a successful businessman and advised a complainant that she should invest in a canal boat, which he later allegedly sold without her knowledge or consent to make a gain of £75,000 for himself. Prosecutors allege that the defendant defrauded complainants by claiming he needed money for private heart surgery and veneer repairs. Other allegations are that he needed help in paying off outstanding tax bills and debts that carried threats of violence against him. The 52-year-old, of Church Grove in Donnington, Telford, was charged following an investigation by detectives from Cheshire Police's economic crime unit The charges relate to romance fraud allegations involving six complainants from Cheshire, Lancashire, Shropshire, Warwickshire, Manchester, and the West Midlands. The offences are reported to have occurred between 2009 and 2024, with the total value of the alleged offences being more than £590,000. Cole-Jones, also known as Marc Cole and Marc Sands, will make a first appearance in relation to the allegations before Warrington Magistrates' Court today.

Teen driver charged with intoxication manslaughter in fatal Garland crash, police say
An 18-year-old Cadillac SUV driver accused of speeding into a Garland intersection and crashing into a Nissan SUV — killing its sole occupant — has been arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter, police said. Alan Ernaldo Marmol Melendez was taken into custody after the crash occurred around 2:30 a.m. at the intersection of North Garland Avenue and Kingsley Road, according to the Garland Police Department. Police said Marmol Melendez's black Cadillac SUV was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed when it struck the eastbound Nissan SUV in the intersection. Marmol Melendez and a passenger in his vehicle sustained minor injuries. The passenger was hospitalized and later released, authorities said. Marmol Melendez is being held in the Garland Jail. No bond has been set. The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Garland Police Department at (972) 485-4840 to report tips or provide information. Head-on, high-speed crash shakes up downtown Chesterton
The normal tranquility of a summer Monday morning in downtown Chesterton was shattered when a man driving at a high rate of speed crossed the center lane and crashed head-on into another vehicle. The driver then fled, and pedestrians saw that he left a toddler in a car seat inside the vehicle, according to an eyewitness. The child was not seriously hurt but was taken to a local hospital to be checked, police said. Chesterton police arrested the man near the crash scene, just south of Calumet Road and Broadway at 11 a.m. Monday. The 51-year-old Porter man was taken to a local hospital and several charges are pending, Police Chief Tim Richardson said. A witness told police that she was at Grant Avenue when she saw a white Cadillac DeVille traveling at a high rate of speed go airborne after going over the tracks. The Cadillac then passed a vehicle and went southbound into the northbound lane, crashing head-on into a Ford Bronco driven by a 70-year-old Chicago woman, police said. Nicki Caylor watched the chaotic scene unfold from inside the Running Vines restaurant she runs at the corner of Calumet Road and Broadway. Caylor gave the following account in a social media posting: She saw the man drive the vehicle – at 60 to 70 mph – swerve around a Subaru and then go southbound in the northbound lane of Calumet Road, which is two lanes with cars parked on both sides. The man in the car 'pinballed' off a few parked cars and then struck a northbound vehicle head-on. 'I was already walking outside to see what was going on and if anyone needed help. That's when I saw the male driver climb out of the passenger side and run away,' Caylor said. That's when Caylor and others saw that there was a crying baby – who looked to be a toddler – improperly secured in a car seat facing the wrong way. 'The car was filled with smoke, but it was starting to clear,' Caylor said. There was spilled fuel on the ground, so Caylor said they knew they had to get the baby out. Not only was the car seat facing the wrong way, but it had been zip-tied. Caylor said they managed to cut the seat belt and anchors and freed the child. Chesterton police officers arrived, and the man started physically attacking them. Officers de-escalated the situation and got him safely to the ground, Caylor said. 'I'm blown away by the calm, collected presence of the officers – and honestly everyone,' Caylor said.
