There is a growing interest in renewable energy assets in India as the country aims to increase its non-fossil fuel capacity to 500 GW by 2030 from about 162 GW at present and is still short of its much-publicised pledge to add 175 GW by 2022.
In December, Indian billionaire Sajjan Jindal led JSW Energy (JSWE.NS), opens new tab acquired renewable energy platform O2 Power's subsidiaries in a deal worth $1.47 billion.
Blueleaf Energy and Jakson Green are also targeting setting up more than 5 GW of renewable capacity in India by 2030, they said.
Singapore-headquartered Blueleaf Energy has more than 7 GW of solar, wind and storage projects in the development pipeline, while Jakson Green has more than 1 GW of renewable energy assets under development.

China Evergrande liquidators say $255 million of assets have been sold

HONG KONG, Aug 12 (Reuters) - Liquidators of China Evergrande Group, the world's most indebted property developer, said on Tuesday they have sold about $255 million of its assets 18 months into the process and taken control of more than 100 of the company's subsidiaries. The developer's shares ( opens new tab will be delisted from the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on August 25 after they failed to resume trading per listing rules, the firm also said in a filing.

China slaps temporary duties on Canadian canola

BEIJING/SINGAPORE, Aug 12 (Reuters) - China on Tuesday announced preliminary anti-dumping duties on Canadian canola imports, a fresh escalation in the year-long trade dispute that began with Ottawa's imposition of tariffs on Chinese electric vehicle imports last August. The provisional rate will be set at 75.8%, effective from Thursday, the Ministry of Commerce said in a statement. ICE November canola futures fell 4% to a three-month low after the announcement. China, the world's largest importer of canola - also known as rapeseed - sources nearly all of its supplies of the product from Canada. The steep duties would likely all but end imports if they are maintained. "This is huge. Who will pay a 75% deposit to bring Canadian canola to China? It is like telling Canada that we don't need your canola, thank you very much," said one Singapore-based oilseed trader. China's Ministry of Commerce said on Tuesday an anti-dumping probe launched in September 2024 had found Canada's agricultural sector and particularly the canola industry had benefited from "substantial" government subsidies and preferential policies. China has until September, when the investigation formally ends, to make a final decision on the duties, though it has the option of extending that deadline by six months. A final ruling could result in a different rate, or overturn Tuesday's decision. The decision marks a shift from the conciliatory tone struck in June when China's Premier Li Qiang said there were no deep-seated conflicts of interest between the countries during a phone call with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. "This move... will put additional pressure on Canada's government to sort through trade frictions with China," said Trivium China agriculture analyst Even Rogers Pay. The Canadian embassy in Beijing did not respond to Reuters' request for comment. Separately, China also launched an anti-dumping investigation into Canadian pea starch and imposed provisional duties on imports of halogenated butyl rubber, according to ministry statements. Replacing millions of tons of Canadian canola is likely to be difficult at short notice, say analysts. China primarily uses imported canola to make animal feed for its aquaculture sector. A separate duty on Canadian canola meal imports in March has already put these supplies at risk. The move provides an opportunity for Australia, which looks set to regain access to the Chinese market with a few test cargoes this year after a years-long freeze in the trade, Pay said. Australia, the second-largest canola exporter, has been shut out of the Chinese market since 2020 due mainly to Chinese rules to stop the spread of fungal plant disease. However, even if Australian imports increase, "fully replacing Canadian canola will be very difficult unless import demand drops sharply," said Donatas Jankauskas, an analyst with commodity data firm CM Navigator. Instant view: India's annual retail inflation slows to 1.55% in July

Aug 12 (Reuters) - India's annual retail inflation (INCPIY=ECI), opens new tab slowed to 1.55% in July from 2.10% in June, government data showed on Tuesday. A Reuters poll had projected retail inflation at 1.76%. COMMENTARY: A weak inflation print for July was largely priced in. This disinflationary trend was food-led, followed by ex-gold services. Base effects have also played a dominant hand, reflected in the slowdown in the food and beverages segment, while sequential momentum rose on seasonal monsoon-related supply vagaries. As base effects recede, headline inflation is expected to return to above 4% by early-2026. This, alongside the optimism on the growth momentum, convinced the central bank to maintain a neutral pause this month. Non-committal policy guidance has raised the bar for further rate reductions. Inflation numbers are on expected lines and would be so for this quarter too. Hence, the impact on policy decision will be muted as this has already been buffered. The tariff issue could have some impact on crude oil price for India, but the impact, if at all, would be more on WPI as the CPI components are regulated by the government. The headline CPI inflation fell further to 1.55% in July 2025, the lowest level since June 2017, although not as rapidly as expected. The CPI inflation was dampened by continued YoY decline in food prices on an elevated base, even as vegetable prices displayed a surprising uptick. ICRA expects the CPI F&B print to revert to an inflation in August 2025 (vs. +5.3% in August 2024) from deflation of 0.8% in July 2025 (+5.1% in July 2024). Consequently, the headline CPI inflation is likely to inch up to ~2.0% in August 2025 from 1.55% in July 2025, with an average CPI inflation of 3.0-3.2% in FY2026. The expected uptrend in the forward-looking inflation trajectory, particularly the 4%-plus prints for Q4 FY2026 and Q1 FY2027, would limit the space for rate cuts in the upcoming policy meetings. Retail inflation fell to 1.55% in July 2025—the second-lowest in the current series and the weakest in eight years—below our and consensus forecasts. The RBI's already-lowered 12-month forecast may be undershot, raising the likelihood of further rate cuts, particularly as U.S. tariffs could shave 30–40 bps off GDP growth. While lower rates support equities and debt, subdued inflation may limit nominal GDP, earnings, tax revenues, and credit growth. Nonetheless, moderating prices alongside resilient real growth remain broadly positive for India's financial markets. "The ninth straight fall in CPI might just have signaled the bottoming of inflation. While the low base will ensure a few more benign readings in the coming months, the point to keep in mind from policy perspective is that exit inflation for FY26 i.e. in March 26 would be 3X higher from here." "Inflation moderated below 2% as the disinflation in food continued. The inflation print was broadly in line with expectations and does not change the outlook on monetary policy as the RBI lowered inflation forecast for the year in its August policy. If tariff rates for India are closer to 25% or higher, the space for another rate cut in October could open up."
