Plainclothes Cops To Monitor Mischief Mongers In Festive Crowds: CP Ravinder Singal
2
Nagpur: Police commissioner Ravinder Singal announced that plainclothes officers will keep an eye on mischief mongers amidst the festive crowds during the upcoming Ganpati festival and other celebrations.
Addressing a preparatory meeting with Ganpati mandal volunteers, idol makers, and peace committee members, alongside NMC commissioner Abhijeet Chaudhari, Singal emphasised the need for a safe and harmonious festive season.
Singal urged Ganpati mandal volunteers to ensure no liquor consumption or illegal activities, such as gambling, occur at the mandaps. He encouraged volunteers to promptly alert plainclothes police in the crowd if they notice unruly behaviour.
"Mandals should ensure segregation of men and women in queues wherever necessary to manage crowds effectively," Singal said, endorsing a suggestion from an organiser.
He also stressed the importance of parents taking children along to pandals during aarti to immerse them in Maharashtra's rich socio-religious culture.
Singal assured the traffic police will visit localities where congestion is seen during the festivities, like Kamal Chowk, Indora Chowk and Mahal, to resolve the issue in coordination with local police and the citizens.

The CP, accompanied by Joint CP Navinchandra Reddy and other senior officials, urged organisers to maintain a divine and respectful approach in crafting idols and decorations. "Avoid music or festivities that hurt sentiments or disrupt the pious ambiance of the Ganpati festival," Singal advised, emphasising the need for sensitivity in celebrations.
Joint CP Navinchandra Reddy advised citizens to report any concerns regarding idols or decorations directly to the local police rather than confronting organisers.
He reminded mandals to adhere to Supreme Court guidelines on DJ decibel levels and cautioned against using laser light shows or other potentially harmful displays. "Such measures are unwelcome and can spoil the festive spirit," Reddy noted.
Additional CP Shivaji Rathod recommended that senior police officials engage with Ganpati organisers to foster cooperation and ensure smooth enforcement of regulations.
The collective efforts aim to create a secure and respectful environment for devotees.
With these measures, the Nagpur police aim to balance festivity with discipline, ensuring that the Ganpati festival and other celebrations remain safe, inclusive, and true to their cultural significance. Organisers and citizens alike have been urged to collaborate with law enforcement to maintain peace and harmony throughout the festive season.
