Pokémon theme park area announced for Kanto region, opens in less than a year
With each new generation the Pokémon franchise moves to a new region, but as fans fondly remember, the adventures all started in the Kanto region, so it's only fitting that the first-ever permanent Pokémon theme park area is going to be in Kanto too.
And no, you won't need to find a way to isekai yourself into the Pokémon anime or video games in order to visit. That's because Pokémon's Kanto region shares its name with the real-world Kanto region of Japan, which makes up the eastern part of the country. Poképark Kanto will be located in Tama Hills, which straddles the border of Tokyo and its neighbor to the south, Kanagawa Prefecture.
The park, with an area of around 2.6 hectares (nearly 280,000 square feet), will have more than 600 Pokémon, the designers say, split between two habitats: the Pokémon Forest and Sedge Town.
In the Pokémon Forest area, fans can amble along a nature trail surrounded by Pokémon great and small. Some will be out in the open, but others will require a keener eye to spot.
Meanwhile, Sedge Town promises to be like stepping into a settlement from the games/anime that Pokémon Trainers pass through on their journeys to become full-fledged Pokémon Masters, with amenities such as a Pokémon Center, Poké Mart, and Pokémon Gym. This is also the part of Poképark Kanto Pokémon where Pokémon parades and meet-and-greet events will be held, and the designers say that the Primarina Fountain in the town square will be a place where you can 'connect with Pokémon Trainers and Pokémon alike' for an 'unforgettable experience,' suggesting that there could be some sort of interactive element to what goes on there.

Poképark Kanto will be situated at the edge of the Yomiuri Land amusement park, which previously hosted the limited-time Pokémon Wonder event. Poképark Kanto, though, looks to be a project on a much larger scale, and also it's going to be a permanent facility that's open year-round. The fact that the park's official website also has an English version indicates that the designers are planning to make its activities and events accessible for foreign travelers to Japan as well.
It's not currently clear whether admission to Poképark Kanto will be entirely separate from Yomiurui Land or if some sort of combination pass will be offered. Ticket prices/purchase procedures will be revealed this fall, with Poképark Kanto's grand opening currently slated for spring of 2026.

Stella Rimington, Britain's First Female Mi5 Spy Chief, Dies at 90
LONDON (AP) — Stella Rimington, the first female chief of Britain's MI5 intelligence agency and later a successful thriller writer, has died, her family said Monday. She was 90. The first woman to head a U.K. intelligence agency, Rimington was the inspiration for Judi Dench's portrayal of MI6 chief M in seven James Bond films. Her family said in a statement that Rimington died on Sunday 'surrounded by her beloved family and dogs and determinedly held on to the life she loved until her last breath.' MI5's current director-general, Ken McCallum, said that 'as the first avowed female head of any intelligence agency in the world, Dame Stella broke through long-standing barriers and was a visible example of the importance of diversity in leadership.' Born in London in 1935, Rimington studied English at Edinburgh University and later worked as an archivist. She was living in India with her diplomat husband in the mid-1960s when she was recruited by MI5, Britain's domestic security service, as a part-time clerk and typist in its New Delhi office. She joined the agency full-time after moving back to London in 1969 and rose through the ranks, overcoming rules that kept the most prestigious roles, such as recruiting and running agents, for men only. She worked in each of MI5's operational branches — counterespionage, counterterrorism and counter-subversion — at a time when MI5's work included sniffing out Soviet spies, infiltrating Northern Ireland militant groups and, controversially, spying on leftists, trade union leaders and other alleged subversives. Rimington acknowledged in 2001 that the organization 'may have been a bit over-enthusiastic' in some of its snooping on domestic targets during the Cold War. Rimington was appointed MI5 director-general in 1992, the first head of the organization to be named in public, and her tenure saw the secretive organization become slightly more open. Dench's first appearance as M, a role formerly played by men, was in 'GoldenEye' in 1995. The film's producers said the casting was inspired by Rimington's appointment. After stepping down in 1996, Rimington was made a dame, the female equivalent of a knight, by Queen Elizabeth II. Rimington later published a memoir, 'Open Secret' — to the displeasure of the government — and a series of spy thrillers featuring fictional MI5 officer Liz Carlyle. 'The Devil's Bargain,' published in 2022, introduced a new heroine, CIA officer Manon Tyler. Other women followed her top intelligence jobs. Eliza Manningham-Buller led MI5 between 2002 and 2007. Anne Keast-Butler became head of electronic and cyber-intelligence agency GCHQ in Metreweli was named in June as the first female head of the overseas intelligence agency, MI6. Rimington and her husband, John Rimington, separated in the 1980s, but moved back in together during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020. 'It's a good recipe for marriage, I'd say,' she said. 'Split up, live separately, and return to it later.' She is survived by her husband, two daughters and five grandchildren.

Bar event for sitting and spacing out opening in Tokyo; offers the luxury of doing nothing

When you hear 'bar,' you probably imagine a place that serves beer, wine, or cocktails, but the Boutto Suru Bar's menu consists of non-alcoholic beverages, coffee and tea. So you could make the argument that it should really be called the Boutto Suru Cafe. We'll give it a pass, though because the place is on much more solid ground with the Boutto Suru part of its name, since boutto suru is Japanese for 'space out,' and that's exactly the experience the Boutto Suru Bar is offering. A limited-time even hosted by art gallery Muun in downtown Tokyo's stylish Hiroo neighborhood, the Boutto Suru Bar says it hopes to provide visitors with 'a luxurious time of doing nothing and spacing out for an extended period of time.' Doing nothing, in this case, seems to mean doing nothing physically or mentally taxing, since each customer will be served a soothing cup of either Spacing Out Coffee or Spacing Out Herbal Tea to sip. You don't have to just stare at the walls, either, since the Boutto Suru Bar event is a collaboration between Muun and design studio Vitro, creators of the Dew relaxation lighting device. Real-world Pokémon Koraidon motorcycle makes its first run in Japan【Video】
Legendary Pokémon visits legendary race circuit. Though they're just as famous now for their cars, Honda first rose to fame with its motorcycles, establishing themselves as the producers of some of the best-engineered, highest-quality bikes on the market. But even with the company's impressive pedigree, would Honda be up to the challenge of producing a motorcycle that's also a Pokémon? That's the task that Honda set for itself earlier this year when it announced that it would be creating a real-life version of Legendary Pokémon Koraidon, which first appeared in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Of course, while Koraidon looks more like a motorcycle than almost any other species of Pokémon, it's still a far more organic design than any real-world bike. Not only that, the eyes are incredibly expressive, able to shift and blink in a way that really makes the bike feel alive. This Koraidon is no stationary statue, though, and things got even cooler on August 3 when, in a special ceremony held just before the start of the eight-hour race, Koraidon took to the track for its first-ever public driving demonstration! As a sort of half-dragon, half-motorcycle, the in-game Koraidon's movement is a mix of rolling on its wheels and running with its legs. So naturally Honda's Koraidon was going to need to move its limbs too, and the effect is impressively convincing. It's a little hard to tell, in the video above, whether or not Koraidon's feet ever actually touch the ground or if they stop ever so short from making contact, but with some extra flex built into the movement of the Pokémon's ankles to further simulate the impact of hitting the pavement. Though Honda's Koraidon looks to be sized such that a human rider could easily sit atop it, the movement of its limbs means leaves little space for a rider's own legs. On the other hand, the fact that it's able to drive itself and even make turns (utilizing the Honda Riding Assist self-balancing function), further adds to the sense that it's a living creature with its own free will. Maybe a demonstration with someone riding Koraidon is something Honda has planned for future demonstrations, or maybe they just haven't found a true Pokémon Master to do the honors just yet.
