Rugby-Italy make five changes for second test against Springboks
(Reuters) -Fullback Mirko Belloni will make a first start for Italy as one of five changes to their side for the second test against South Africa in Gqeberha on Saturday, but number eight Lorenzo Cannone has been ruled out with a back injury.
The inexperienced Italy side lost the first test in Pretoria 42-24, but put in an excellent second half showing against the world champions having trailed 28-3 at the break and were in contention going into the final 10 minutes.
Belloni forms a back three with wings Jacopo Trulla and Louis Lynagh, while Marco Zanon and Tommaso Menoncello are the centre-pairing. Giacomo Da Re keeps his place at flyhalf, alongside number 9 Alessandro Garbisi.
Hooker Tommaso Di Bartolomeo packs down in the front row with props Danilo Fischetti and Simone Ferrari either side of him, while captain Niccolo Cannone and Andrea Zambonin are the lock pairing.
South African born Ross Vintcent moves from the flank to the number eight jersey in the place of Cannone, with Sebastian Negri and Manuel Zuliani the other two loose-forwards.
Zimbabwe-born Negri spent much of his childhood in South Africa too and missed the first test due to injury.
His return is a boost to the engine room and adds experience as the second most capped player (64 appearances) in the team behind Ferrari (65).

Prosecutors call for PSG's Achraf Hakimi to face rape trial
NANTERRE (France), Aug 2 — French prosecutors on Friday called for Paris Saint-Germain star Achraf Hakimi to face trial for the alleged rape of a woman in 2023 which the Moroccan international denies. The Nanterre prosecutor's office told AFP that they had requested that the investigating judge refer the rape charge to a criminal court. 'It is now up to the investigating magistrate to make a decision within the framework of his order,' the prosecutor's office told AFP in a statement. Hakimi, 26, played a major role in PSG's run to their first Champions League title, the full-back scoring the opener in the 5-0 rout of Inter Milan in the final in May. Hakimi, who helped Morocco to their historic progress to the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup, was charged in March, 2023 with raping a 24-year-old woman. Hakimi allegedly paid for his accuser to travel to his home on February 25, 2023, in the Paris suburb of Boulogne-Billancourt while his wife and children were away on holiday. The woman went to a police station following the encounter alleging rape and was questioned by police. Although the woman refused to make a formal accusation, prosecutors decided to press charges against the player. She told police at the time that she had met Hakimi in January 2023 on Instagram. On the night in question she said she had travelled to his house in a taxi paid for by Hakimi. She told police Hakimi had started kissing her and making non-consensual sexual advances, before raping her, a police source told AFP at the time. She said she managed to break free to text a friend who came to pick her up. 'Attempted extortion' Contacted by AFP after Friday's development Hakimi's lawyer Fanny Colin described the call by prosecutors for a trial as 'incomprehensible and senseless in light of the case's elements'. 'We, along with Achraf Hakimi, remain as calm as we were at the start of the proceedings. 'If these requisitions were to be followed, we would obviously pursue all avenues of appeal,' she continued. According to Colin, her client had 'been the target of an attempted extortion'. 'Nothing in this case suggests an attempted extortion,' Rachel-Flore Pardo, the lawyer representing the woman, said. 'My client welcomes this news with immense relief,' she told AFP. 'We will not tolerate any smear or destabilisation campaign, as is unfortunately still too often the case for women who have the courage to report the rape of which they are victims,' she added. The son of a cleaning lady and a street vendor, both Moroccans who have lived in Spain since the 1980s, Hakimi was born in Getafe, a southern suburb of Madrid. Hakimi came through the youth system at Real Madrid before joining Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund in 2018. He went on to make 73 appearances for the German club. He moved to Inter Milan in 2020 and then on to PSG in 2021 where he has established himself as an integral part of the team. Four-times Super Bowl champions Kansas City Chiefs signed the 24-year-old Welshman in March last year after he impressed scouts at the NFL International Player Pathway, but later left him off their roster for the 2024 season. Last August, Rees-Zammit joined the Jacksonville Jaguars as part of their practice squad before signing to their active roster in February. "I've got an exciting announcement to make! I've decided to leave the NFL and return to rugby!" Rees-Zammit posted on Instagram late on Thursday. "It's been a great experience but it's time to come home. I've decided that this is the best time to make this decision to give myself time to get everything in place for next season." Rees-Zammit made his debut in 2020 and won the Six Nations Championship with Wales the following year. He made 32 appearances for his country, scoring 14 tries, playing his last match for Wales at the 2023 Rugby World Cup, when they lost to Argentina in the quarter-finals. Josue admits he was surprised by Malaysia's withdrawal
KUALA LUMPUR: National player Paulo Josue has admitted he was surprised by Malaysia's withdrawal from the Central Asian Football Association (Cafa) Nations Cup. The 36-year-old Brazil-born Josue felt the Nations Cup would have provided valuable experience for Malaysia's players as the tournament features strong teams like Iran and Uzbekistan. KL City midfielder Josue has earned 26 caps and scored nine goals since his Malaysia debut in March 2023. However, he believes that the replacement matches for Malaysia following the Nations Cup withdrawal, are still worthwhile. Harimau Malaya will play friendlies against Palestine and Singapore in September in Kuala Lumpur. "It's Fifa days, so we need to play with someone. I think Singapore has a strong team. Palestine is also a top country. It's interesting for us to play them and to keep testing ourselves," said Josue.
