Ethan Davis 'assignment sound' in fall camp for Tennessee football

Ethan Davis enters his third season at Tennessee in 2025. The 6-foot-5, 245-pound redshirt sophomore tight end appeared in 15 games for the Vols from 2023-24. He has recorded 15 receptions for 133 yards and two touchdowns in his collegiate career. Tight ends coach Alec Abeln discussed Davis following Tennessee's second practice during fall training camp ahead of the 2025 season. 'He's absolutely capable of being a dominant player in the core,' Abeln said. 'Knowing what to do for sure was step one. I think he's gotten to a point now where, man, really pretty assignment sound. 'Now it's about getting banked reps of what it's supposed to feel like, and then, obviously, effort is the paint that covers up bad carpentry and if it isn't perfect, if it's not exactly right, just straining finishing with everything he's got.' "Yeah, 100 percent, there were flashes of it a lot last year and just getting it to be on a consistent basis where he has all the ability in the world and he knows it,' Abeln said. 'It's one of those things, especially in the core, when you feel what it's supposed to feel like and get used to feeling that. 'I think that helps guys be more consistent with it where a lot of times guys are putting in a bunch of work and really straining to get right with the technique, and they may not even realize it's wrong until once they feel it right, then it kind of clicks for them. I think the more you can feel it right, the more it becomes second nature.' Davis appeared in 12 contests for the Vols in 2024, totaling 13 receptions for 100 yards and two touchdowns. 'No timetable' for Jermod McCoy's return from injury to Tennessee in 2025

Tennessee will open fall training camp Wednesday ahead of its 2025 football season. 2025 will mark the Vols' fifth season under head coach Josh Heupel. On Tuesday ahead of Tennessee's first practice, the fifth-year head coach discussed junior defensive back Jermod McCoy. The 6-foot, 193-pound cornerback suffered a torn ACL injury in January and Heupel said there is not a timetable for his return. 'No timetable on him,' Heupel said of McCoy. 'There are benchmark things that he's got to accomplish within our training room to move on to the next phase of it. He's handled it really well from the very beginning. Just his mindset and how he's approached every single day. He's done a really good job throughout the course of the summer. 'Periodically you see his drills, movement, explosive-type drills that he's doing, change based on his rehab protocol. He's handled it extremely well. As we go through training camp, there will be a progression. How his body responds to some of those things will kind of dictate the time period of when he's available for us.'
