Why is the 'Pentagon Pizza Index' trending on social media
As far as world indicators go, you might wonder how the Pentagon—America's most secure military headquarters—has anything to do with pizza. But what if ordering a pizza near the Pentagon was actually a warning sign of geopolitical turmoil?
That's the idea behind the so-called Pentagon Pizza Index, sometimes also called the Pentagon Pizza Meter.
It's a strange, persistent theory that claims a surge in pizza orders around the Pentagon or Department of Defense signals an imminent global crisis. And after going viral last year, it's making a comeback, thanks to growing tensions in the Middle East.
Iran-Israel tensions
The renewed focus on the Pentagon Pizza Index coincides with rising hostilities in the Middle East. While U.S. officials have denied direct involvement in the Iran-Israel war, online users believe America's defense machinery may be quietly bracing behind the scenes.
A spike in delivery activity near major military and intelligence centers was first flagged late on June 12 by a user who posted: 'The Pentagon Pizza Index is hiking.' A Domino's outlet near the Department of Defense also appeared particularly busy, and a dedicated X page tracking delivery patterns confirmed the uptick on June 13.
What is the Pentagon Pizza Index?
The so-called Pentagon Pizza Index refers to a long-standing, half-serious theory that a sudden surge in pizza deliveries around U.S.

defense buildings indicates that officials are too busy to leave their posts—often due to national security emergencies or military operations.
The theory was popularized by food culture site The Takeout, but its roots go back to the Cold War. Reportedly, Soviet intelligence once tracked food deliveries in Washington to assess American crisis readiness. The thinking: more pizza = more panic.
In the social media era, the theory has become a kind of crowdsourced warning system, with online users scanning delivery maps for unusual patterns.
Recent surges near Papa John's and Domino's outlets in D.C. have led some to believe that the Pentagon is in active response mode.
Historical surges that fuel the theory
This isn't the first time pizza deliveries have mysteriously spiked near major events. Believers often point to past incidents that seem to support the pattern:
August 1, 1990: Frank Meeks, a Domino's franchisee in Washington, noticed a wave of deliveries to CIA buildings. The next day, Iraq invaded Kuwait—triggering the Gulf War.
December 1998: A similar increase reportedly occurred during the impeachment hearings of President Bill Clinton.
April 13, 2024: On the eve of Iran launching drones into Israeli territory, netizens again flagged pizza order surges from areas near the Pentagon and White House. Screenshots from food apps went viral within hours.

Stocks to trade today: Trade Brains Portal recommends two stocks for 16 June
On Friday, the broad indices opened on a negative note due to heightened geopolitical tensions as Israel started striking targets in Iran, mainly targeting nuclear facilities, missile factories, and military leaders. The Nifty 50 opened in red at 24,473, but gradually increased throughout the trading session, and closed at 24,718.60, a fall by -0.68% or -169.6 points. Here are two stocks to trade today, as recommended by the Trade Brains Portal IREDA Ltd Current price: ₹167 | Target price: ₹215 in 12 months | Stop-loss: ₹144 Why it's recommended: The company is the largest green financing non-banking financial company (NBFC) with more than 38 years of experience and holds the 'Navratna' status. It offers a diversified, comprehensive suite of financial products across the renewable energy ecosystem, including solar, hydro, transmission, wind, battery storage systems, green hydrogen, project-term loans, loan refinancing, and EV charging infrastructure. Also Read: Escalating Israel-Iran conflict to keep markets on boil in near term As of 31 March 2025, the Government of India is the majority shareholder in IREDA with a stake of 75%. It plays a strategic and vital role in the GOI's initiatives for the promotion and development of the renewable energy sector. India's renewable energy sector capacity as of FY25 stood at 220 GW, and an ambitious target to increase the capacity to 500 GW has been set by 2030. The company has a well-diversified loan book, with a presence across 23 states and 4 Union territories. As of FY25, revenue from operations grew by 36% year-on-year, standing at ₹ ₹6,743 crore. PAT stood at ₹1,698 crore, a jump of 36% on-year. The company did a disbursement of ₹30,168 crore, a growth of 20% on-year, whereas sanction grew by 27%, stood at ₹47,453 crore in FY25. The outstanding loan book is standing at ₹76,282 crore, and a growth of 28% on-year has been witnessed. The loan book has a major weight in the solar thermal sector (24%), followed by the wind sector (14%), and hydropower (11%). As of FY25, the private sector constitutes 73% of the loan book, whereas the public sector contributed 27%. States like Rajasthan, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu are among the leading states that contribute more than 50% of the loan book, as of FY25. The company has been successfully increasing the asset quality over the years, reducing its NPA from 5.61% in FY21 to 1.35% in FY25. Yield on advances for FY25 stood at 10.03%, on account of controlled cost of borrowing, which stood at 7.61%. IREDA maintains a healthy, sustainable NIM of 3.27%, up by 42bps on-year. The renewable energy sector in India grew 3x in the last decade. Solar PV installed capacity has been growing at an astounding rate of 24% CAGR since FY19, which currently stands at 106 GW as of FY25. According to CEA, Solar installed capacity is expected to reach 364 GW by FY32, and a CAGR of 19.27% is assumed. Wind energy installed capacity stood at 50 GW as of FY25 and is expected to reach 122 GW by FY32, according to CEA. Risk Factor: The company is exposed to interest rate risk, which could hamper NIMs and operations, as the company depends on interest income from the loans disbursed. The company is also vulnerable to counterparty risk, augmented by the wholesale nature of the loans and concentration risk in a few states. Any downward revision in the tariffs could negatively affect the cash flows and financial conditions of the company's borrowers and further hamper repayment capabilities. Also Read: The capital goods sector gets a power-up, its weight rises in Nifty NCC ltd Current price: ₹226 | Target price: ₹295 in 12 months | Stop-loss: ₹190 Why it's recommended: The company was established in 1978 and is one of the largest listed construction companies in terms of revenue. It is in the business of creating infrastructure for buildings, transportation, water and environment, electrical transmission and distribution, irrigation, mining, and railway projects. It has a pan-India presence, with footprints across nine cities such as Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata, and Patna, with its headquarters located in Hyderabad. It has a healthy client base with clients like BMC, NHAI, Airport Authority of India, Adani, RVNL, Coal India, etc. Apart from accomplishing projects across India, the company has a presence in the Middle East through its subsidiaries in Muscat and Dubai. In FY25, the company recorded a total revenue of ₹22,355 crore, a growth of 6.6% on-year, and PAT of ₹868 crore, a jump of 17% on-year. It has recorded the highest ever order book of ₹71,568 crore, a growth of 18.4% on-year. Moreover, the company secured orders worth ₹32,888 crore in FY25, which is 50% higher than the previous guidance by the company. The company has recorded an Ebitda of ₹1,918 crore, registering a growth of 8.4% on-year. In FY25, NCC received two work orders from BSNL for the BharatNet project, which is one of the largest single-project wins for the company, focused on building the middle-mile network. Apart from that, the company has also secured orders worth ₹9,000 crore to ₹9,500 crore from the Andhra Pradesh state for the infrastructure development, construction of residential blocks, and the high court. As per the guidance from management for FY26, the company is targeting the order inflow to be in the range of ₹22,000-25,000 crore, driven by continued sectoral demand and a strong pipeline. The company also expects to maintain 10% growth in revenue, with stable margins in the range of 9.0%–9.25%, on account of ongoing focus on cost optimization and operational efficiency. It has incurred a capex of ₹305 crore, which is higher than the budgeted capex of ₹250 crore for the regular projects in FY25. It anticipates a capex of ₹750 crore in FY26, where around ₹300 crore will be utilized for TBM machines and about ₹280 crore for the smart meter project. Risk Factor: The company is exposed to working capital management risk due to the nature of the business's long working capital cycle. It also faces counterparty risk, as recovery of debtors, including unbilled revenue, is crucial for the company. It is also vulnerable to implementation risks due to long-term projects. This risk includes instances like construction delays, delay or disruption in the supply of raw materials, delays in the acquisition of land, unanticipated cost increases, and cost overruns. Stocks to buy under ₹100: Experts recommend six shares to buy today — 16 June 2025
Stocks to buy under ₹ 100: Following weak global market sentiments on the Israel-Iran war updates, the Indian stock market extended its selling spree for the second straight session on Friday last week. The Nifty 50 index finished 169 points lower at 24,718. The BSE Sensex shed 573 points and closed at 81,118, while the Bank Nifty index ended 555 points down at 55,527. Trading volumes on the NSE cash market were down by 11% compared to yesterday. BEL, ONGC and Tech Mahindra managed to show some resilience, emerging as major gainers on the Nifty. Conversely, Adani Ports, ITC, and SBI bore the brunt of significant selling pressure, ultimately closing the session as major losers. On the outlook of the Nifty 50 today, Shiju Kuthupalakkal, Senior Manager of Technical Research at Prabhudas Lilladher, said, "The Nifty 50 index witnessed a huge gap down near the important support area at 24,500 level on the back of rising geo-political tensions and with sentiment maintained with a very cautious approach, one need to wait and watch for further developments with 24,000 zone maintained as the crucial and major support near the 200 period MA which needs to be sustained to maintain the overall trend intact. On the upside, the index needs a decisive breach above the 25,000 level for the bias to improve to anticipate a further rise in the coming days." "The Bank Nifty index tanked below the important 55,800 to 56,000 band in the morning session, and with bias weakening, it would need to be sustained above the important 50-EMA zone at the 54,500 level to maintain the overall trend intact. With the index precariously, a decisive move above 56,000 level in the coming sessions can improve the bias and expect further upward movement with the 57,000 zone as the crucial resistance zone," Shiju Kuthupalakkal of Prabhudas Lilladher said. Nifty 50, Sensex today: What to expect from Indian stock market in trade on June 16 amid Israel-Iran war
The Indian stock market benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty 50, are likely to track mixed trend in global markets on Monday as sentiment remains cautious amid the escalating conflict in the Middle East due to the Israel-Iran war. The trends on Gift Nifty indicate a positive start for the Indian benchmark index. The Gift Nifty was trading around 24,791 level, a premium of nearly 65 points from the Nifty futures' previous close. On Friday, the domestic equity market ended lower for the second consecutive session, with the benchmark Nifty 50 closing below 24,800 level. The Sensex declined 573.38 points, or 0.70%, to close at 81,118.60, while the Nifty 50 settled 169.60 points, or 0.68%, lower at 24,718.60. Here's what to expect from Sensex, Nifty 50 and Bank Nifty today: Sensex formed a long bearish candle on the weekly charts, and is currently trading comfortably below the 20-day SMA (Simple Moving Average), which is largely negative. 'We believe that as long as Sensex remains below the 20-day SMA or 81,600, weak sentiment is likely to continue. On the downside, the index could retest the level of 80,500. A breach of 80,500 could accelerate selling pressure. Below this level, Sensex could slip to the 50-day SMA around 79,900,' said Amol Athawale, VP-Technical Research, Kotak Securities. On the upside, he believes a break above 81,300 could extend the pullback move up to 81,600. Further gains may also continue, lifting Sensex toward 81,900 - 82,100. In the derivatives segment, the highest Nifty Call Open Interest (OI) is concentrated at the 24,800 and 25,000 strikes, suggesting strong resistance around these levels. On the downside, the highest Put Open Interest is seen at the 24,600 and 24,500 strikes, indicating strong support and traders' confidence in holding these levels, Choice Broking said. Nifty 50 ended below 24,800 level on June 13, and formed a bearish engulfing pattern on the weekly timeframe. 'The short-term trend of Nifty 50 is negative, but the medium-term trend remains positive. Nifty 50 seems to have entered a broader high low range of 24,500 - 25,100 again. Hence, any sharp weakness below 24,500 could possibly trigger a sharp selloff. However, any sustainable bounce from the support could pull Nifty 50 towards 25,100 levels again in the near term,' said Nagaraj Shetti, Senior Technical Research Analyst at HDFC Securities. Om Mehra, Technical Research Analyst, SAMCO Securities highlighted that the Nifty 50 has slipped below both the 9-day and 20-day exponential moving averages, indicating a weakening near-term trend. 'The daily Relative Strength Index (RSI) has cooled off to the neutral 50 mark, hinting at indecision, while the MACD remains skewed to the downside with a widening negative histogram, signaling continued bearish undertones. The support is now placed at 24,500, followed by 24,375, a breakdown of which could accelerate further downside risk. The resistance is seen at 24,850, with a stronger hurdle around 24,920. A close above these levels is essential for any meaningful recovery,' Mehra said. Hrishikesh Yedve, AVP Technical and Derivative Research, Asit C. Mehta Investment Interrmediates Ltd. said that the Nifty 50 formed a bullish Marubozu candlestick pattern on the daily chart near the short-term consolidation base, indicating strength. 'Hence, the 24,500 level will act as immediate support for the index, while on the upside 25,000 – 25,200 zone will act as a major hurdle. As long as the index holds above 24,500, short term traders are advised to adopt a buy-on-dips strategy,' Yedve said. According to VLA Ambala, Co-Founder of Stock Market Today, Nifty 50 is expected to find support between 24,450 and 24,330, while facing resistance in the range of 24,750 to 24,860 in today's market session. 'In the coming week, market participants may view dips in the Nifty 50 index as potential buying opportunities for the long term. I suggest they remain vigilant and track ongoing geopolitical and economic developments to develop suitable strategies,' Ambala said. Bank Nifty index dropped 555.20 points, or 0.99%, to end at 55,527.35 on Friday. On a weekly basis, the index declined 1.86%, snapping a four-week winning streak, and formed a bearish engulfing pattern on the weekly chart. 'Bank Nifty index closed below the 21-day EMA, indicating short-term profit booking. However, it continues to hold above the crucial 55,000 support zone and the previous all-time high support near 54,500. As long as these levels are intact, the broader structure remains bullish, and a buy-on-dips strategy is advisable. On the upside, 56,100 remains a key resistance; a breakout above this level could trigger a fresh rally toward 56,600,' said Puneet Singhania, Director at Master Trust Group. He advises traders to watch for price action near support zones for potential entry opportunities. Bajaj Broking Research said in a note that the Bank Nifty index, on the weekly chart, formed a sizable bear candle signaling profit booking at higher levels around 57,000 levels. 'A move and a close below Friday's low of 55,150 levels will open further downside towards 54,500 - 54,000 levels in the coming sessions. Key supports are placed around those levels being the confluence of 50 days EMA and the lower band of the recent consolidation range. On the higher side 56,000 remains a key hurdle, only a move above the same will signal a pause in the current corrective decline,' said Bajaj Broking Research. According to Hrishikesh Yedve, Bank Nifty index found support near the 34-Day EMA and formed a bullish belt hold candlestick pattern on the daily chart, indicating strength. 'Immediate support for the Bank Nifty is placed near 55,150 (34-DEMA), while resistance is seen near 57,050. Traders are advised to follow a buy-on-dips approach as long as the index holds above 55,150,' Yedve said.
