
Kuwait students take part in International Chemistry Olympiad
KUWAIT: A delegation of Kuwaiti students, supported by the Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Giftedness and Creativity (SAGC), is participating in the 2025 International Chemistry Olympiad, which began Saturday in Dubai and will run through July 14. In a statement to KUNA, the center said the participation reflects its ongoing efforts to support talented students and enhance their scientific capabilities. The initiative is the result of close cooperation between SAGC, the Ministry of Education and Kuwait University.
SAGC, which operates under the umbrella of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), stated that the delegation's involvement is part of a broader plan to prepare students through a year-long intensive training program. The program includes both theoretical and practical components under the guidance of a distinguished team of international experts and trainers in the field of chemistry. The center noted that the goal of Kuwait's participation is to showcase the capabilities of national talents and elevate the country's presence in international scientific arenas. This initiative aligns with KFAS' vision to promote scientific research, innovation and youth empowerment.
The center extended its best wishes for success to the participating students — Ali Behbehani, Ali Yousef, Manal Al-Kandari and Ghazal Al-Mutairi — expressing hope that they will achieve distinguished results and raise Kuwait's flag proudly at global scientific forums. Kuwaiti students bag 4 medals at 10TH Arab Chemistry Olympiad
AMMAN, Aug 8 (KUNA) -- The Kuwaiti students won a silver medal and three bronze at the ongoing 10TH Arab Chemistry Olympiad, being hosted in the Jordanian capital city of Amman. The championship, due to conclude tomorrow, Saturday, gathered representatives of 11 Arab countries, said Haifa Al-Adwani, supervisor of chemistry at the Kuwaiti Ministry of Education. Ali Behbehani, grade 12 from the Academy Of Giftedness, won the bronze medal, she said in statements to KUNA. The three bronze medalists are Hala Al-Rashidi, grade 11 from Al-Rawdha High School; Zahraa Al-Haddad, grade 10 from Tolaitelah High School, and Ibrahim Al-Rashidi, grade 11 from Mohammad Najm High School. Al-Adwani attributed the achievement of the Kuwaiti students to the continuous efforts of the ministry to foster the skills of talented students. Scientific Center, Youth Authority join forces to train youth
KUWAIT: Officials from the Scientific Center of Kuwait and the Youth Public Authority shake hands upon signing the agreement. — KUNA KUWAIT: The Scientific Center of Kuwait and the Youth Public Authority signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Tuesday to strengthen youth empowerment and promote scientific and environmental awareness. The agreement, signed at the Scientific Center - one of the flagship institutions of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) - focuses on joint programs to develop the skills of young Kuwaitis and broaden their engagement with science and sustainability. 'This MoU reflects both parties' commitment to youth development and capacity building,' said Scientific Center Director General Musaed Al-Yaseen in a statement to KUNA. 'It also expands avenues for cooperation in scientific and environmental awareness and national capacity-building.' Al-Yaseen said the partnership will roll out training programs, scientific and environmental initiatives, and educational activities that target young people. 'The goal is to equip youth with essential environmental and community skills,' he said. He noted that the initiative aligns with the center's strategy to strengthen partnerships with national institutions and contribute to development goals by offering volunteering and professional training opportunities for youth. Kuwait's Dasman Diabetes Institute adopts special strategy for treating diabetes
KUWAIT, Aug 5 (KUNA) -- Dasman Diabetes Institute has unveiled a comprehensive strategy to establish Kuwait's National Genome Project, which blended genetic data according to lifestyle and environmental factors that may lead to developing diseases namely diabetes. Dr. Faisal Al-Rifai, the center's Director General, explained the strategy in a press statement, noting that excerpts were published by the renowned journal, Genetics Review Nature. Dasman Institute's vision is distinguished with a method, different from the conventional genome projects, integrating the genetic information with living and ecological factors with such approach deepening understanding of complex diseases namely the second type of diabetes, Dr. Al-Rifai said. The institute has drawn up this strategy after a series of workshops, conferences, specialized initiatives namely the precision medicine workshop that had been held in coordination with American academies. Dr. Al-Rifai underscored the high significance of the institute effort at this level amid hike of diabetic and obese cases in Kuwait, mentioning aggravating non-genetic factors such as the hard climatic conditions and pollution.
