Pedersen wins Giro stage 13 as Del Toro extends lead
Mads Pedersen won the 13th stage of the Giro d'Italia yesterday as Isaac Del Toro maintained his lead in the battle for the overall title.
Lidl-Trek rider Pedersen burst to victory in the final few hundred metres, holding off Wout van Aert in a thrilling end to a punchy 180 kilometres of riding from Rovigo to Vicenza.
'I went a bit earlier than I really wanted to but on such a hard uphill final like this sometimes it's okay to go early because everyone has burning legs the last 100 meters,' said Pedersen.
Pedersen claimed his fourth stage of this year's Giro while wearing the sprint jersey, closing in on the six wins Tadej Pogacar racked up on his way to triumph at last year's edition of the Italian Grand Tour.
'I'm just happy with this one and adding another 50 points to the 'ciclomino' (sprint) jersey so let's see how it goes,' added Pedersen.

Prodhomme wins Giro stage as Del Toro holds lead
AFP | Champoluc-Champlan Frenchman Nicolas Prodhomme won a sizzling stage 19 of the Giro d'Italia yesterday run over five Alpine peaks where an expected title showdown failed to fully ignite. Overall leader Isaac del Toro of Mexico remains 43 seconds ahead of Richard Carapaz of Ecuador while Briton Simon Yates is third at 1min 21s after losing 22sec on the day. EF rider Carapaz attacked late on in the race and Del Toro again proved he could keep up. Former Giro champion Carapaz was satisfied with his day's work. 'I think we were all very tired, and in the end I just had to give it a try. But I think it was a good stage. I think we can make it with Del Toro so I've got to be happy with my performance.' Visma rider Simon Yates was unable to follow the pair and said he would be reviewing the situation ahead of Satur-day's blockbuster, appearing annoyed at the line. 'We'll see how the legs are. The legs are good today so hoping for the same tomorrow and that I can try something,' said the pure climber who may yet take the title. His twin brother Adam Yates took it easy yesterday and will help sherpa UAE teammate Del Toro on the penultimate day. Prodhomme's face was twisted with the effort as he broke away from a large escape group. 'I've waited a long time for a win. I won my first race a week ago and now I win here in the Giro d'Italia.'

Roglic abandons Giro d'Italia after latest crash
Primoz Roglic was forced to abandon the Giro d'Italia yesterday, ending a troubled fortnight for one of the prerace favourites on the Grand Tour. Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe leader Roglic left the threeweek Italian race after being caught in a crash alongside Richard Carapaz during the punishing 16th stage, organisers said. A five-time Grand Tour champion including the 2023 Giro, Roglic had already crashed three times in this year's edition, including in a mass pile up towards the end of Stage 14. Roglic was three minutes and 53 seconds behind overall leader Isaac Del Toro before deciding to start yesterday's 203km push from Piazzola sul Brenta to San Valentino, which features around 4,700 metres of climbing including three category one ascents. The 35-year-old had been one of the men to watch ahead of this year's race but was left way off the pace after losing 90 seconds during the previous stage on Sunday
