Armed robbery near Hoërskool Carletonville: Family tied up and vehicle stolen
A shocking armed robbery took place this week on Wolfram Street, directly opposite Hoërskool Carletonville, leaving a local family traumatised and their property stolen.
At around 19:25 on May 11, the 49-year-old homeowner asked his son to bring their dog inside. Moments later, two armed robbers appeared at the door and forced the son back inside the house at gunpoint. The suspects, speaking Sesotho and isiZulu, immediately demanded cash.
The situation escalated when the resident's wife arrived home and was also overpowered by the intruders. 'We know you have money,' the robbers told her before tying up the entire family when she denied having any.
The suspects stole a television, multiple cellphones, a laptop, and jewellery, before fleeing the scene in the family's Renault Sandero.
No injuries were reported, but the Carletonville SAPS have launched an investigation. As of now, no arrests have been made.

Eastern Cape floods: Another body found as death toll rises to over 90
Another body has been found in the Eastern Cape following the devastating floods that left more than 90 people dead and several missing. Image: File Another body was found on Wednesday in the Eastern Cape following the devastating floods that left more than 90 people dead and several missing. Ahmed Bham, head of Gift of the Givers' search and rescue team, told broadcaster Newzroom Afrika that the airwing of the South African Police Service has been instrumental in finding the bodies. "We have a multi-disciplinary search and rescue team consisting of the South African Police Service, Department of Health and Gift of the Givers. We said over the next two days, we are going to intensify our searches, and we are lucky to have the (SAPS) airwing assisting us. We were in the flight as well to look at the Mthatha Dam, flying to the rivers, when we recovered two bodies at the same place yesterday (Saturday)," said Bham. "While hovering and doing our searches we saw that something was odd in the water. We sent in our rescue diver and he confirmed that it was a third body. Our other teams are working around the Mthatha River quite intensively with the 'crocs' - the boats that they use in this type of situation, along the river on both sides, combing the area with K9s." On Saturday, IOL reported that Police Minister Senzo Mchunu confirmed the revised death toll, up from 78 the previous day, in a meeting with officers and rescue personnel. More than 38 people have been rescued thus far, while search and rescue teams remain on the ground recovering additional bodies, SAPS spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said. Video Player is loading. President Cyril Ramaphosa visited some of the affected communities where he expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families in the affected communities. The president also visited the collapsed Efata Bridge in Mthata, where a taxi transporting school children was swept away, killing at least six learners as well as the driver and conductor, while others remain missing. E-hailing scare in Alexandra triggers missing girl alert
Concern grew for Mbali Ncaku after she sent a worrying message to her friend on June 18 about an e-hailing ride she requested from Bramley to Pretoria, and then became unreachable. This prompted social posts suggesting that she was missing. However, she has clarified the matter, noting that she realised later that she was panicking when she sent the message. In the message, she told her friend to call the police if she did not make it to Tshwane University of Technology Soshanguve South campus in about an hour and thirty minutes. But the friend called Ncaku's mother right away. Read more: What to do if a family member is kidnapped, especially a child 'I got scared when he asked me to cancel the ride, and when he said he was taking a different route because he was trying to avoid the police, I panicked. I think my friend also panicked, that is why she called my mother immediately. But I got to the campus safe and on time for her exam,' she explained, adding that now when she thinks about it, she was not in danger and it was just a misunderstanding. Tumisho Sekhukhune, the e-hailing driver, acknowledged that the incident was unfortunate. 'My mistake was asking her to cancel the ride. We were just having a casual conversation, maybe that is why I did not realise she was scared or anything. She told me her exam was about an hour and thirty minutes long. I even asked if she was going to come back to Bramley because I would have waited to give her a ride back.' Asked why he told Ncaku to cancel the ride, he explained that he did not force her, he was just asking because he was trying to avoid their e-hailing platform from taking a portion of the trip fare. 'I am not the only person who cancels the trips. Drivers know that prices on our e-hailing platform are more beneficial to the customers than drivers. For instance, it would charge a customer R80 for a long drive and still deduct a certain amount from that R80, it affects us,' he exclaimed.
