New Coffee Spot Opens: Yemeni Inspired, Albunn Coffee House

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A new Yemeni inspired coffee house is now open here in Rochester! The Albunn Coffee House held a soft opening Wednesday to slowly introduce themselves to the public. It's located right in Downtown Rochester, on East Avenue. They have traditional pastries and a variety of different sweets, as well as refreshers. The first-ever coffee beans were exported in Mokha, Yemen, on the Red Sea, in the 15th century. The co-owner of Albunn, Kassim Shaibi said that had a lot of impact on why they wanted to open the spot in the first place. 'We want to try and bring this culture here and share the knowledge,' Shaibi said. He also said they will have late night hours for those who want to explore Rochester's nightlife. DEC Issues Air Quality Alert for Western New York

ROCHESTER, NY (WROC) – The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for Western New York Wednesday through 11 p.m. While there has been a slight haze of wildfire smoke, this concern, according to the DEC, is because of ozone particles. That is more because of pollution from industrial processes and emissions from transportation. While these pollutants do act as a greenhouse gas to warm the atmosphere and lead to climate change, they are also harmful to breath in when at higher concentrations. Monroe County is in the Moderate category while Western New York is in the 'Unhealthy for sensitive groups' category. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
