Bears' Ben Johnson gives timeline on Jaylon Johnson's potential return
Before Thursday's practice, head coach Ben Johnson provided an update on Johnson's potential return. He noted that the target date for Johnson is Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings, but it's also still early in his rehab process.
"I think there is a scenario where he will be ready for Week 1, and that is really the target day," Johnson said. "I know he is working hard and diligently to get there for that and with those types of injuries that he's got, you just never know. You never know. It's still early in that process, but I know he's attacking that rehab really well."
It's not the most encouraging update, considering Johnson was originally supposed to miss a "few weeks," which indicated he would be back at camp at some point. But this latest timeline means he could miss closer to two months and puts his status for the start of the regular season in jeopardy.

After a great throw to Jordan Addison, the pair linked up again, with Addison making an incredible diving catch. McCarthy looked completely comfortable, but the Vikings' offensive line did not hold up. The second-year passer had to escape the pocket and throw on the run a few times. Despite moving the chains, including McCarthy scrambling to pick up a first on a fourth down, the drive stalled, leading to a field goal from the Vikings. McCarthy only played one possession, but put together 4-for-7 attempts, 30 yards, and one rush for eight yards. Is JJ McCarthy the Starter for the Vikings? Despite the many rumors that the Vikings were attempting to land Matthew Stafford and Aaron Rodgers, they chose not to bring in either. McCarthy is the starting quarterback for the team, and he will have a chance to lead the team when the regular season begins. Though he will have arguably the best receiver in the league in Justin Jefferson to throw the ball to, he will be without Addison. Addison was suspended for the first three games of the season due to DUI charges. Regardless, McCarthy has been thrust into the role of the starter, especially after the exodus of Darnold, who signed with the Seattle Seahawks. Now, he will get a chance to lead the team.
