Newcastle and Man Utd in another striker transfer battle with U21 Euros star Woltemade joining Sesko as target
MANCHESTER UNITED and Newcastle are set to be locked in ANOTHER transfer battle to land Nick Woltemade as their next striker. Bayern Munich had been in pole position to sign Woltemade, 23, - who is valued at £40million. 5 Play Dream Team now! Play The Sun Dream Team ahead of the 2025/26 season But Luis Diaz's £55million switch from Liverpool to Bayern has boosted both the Red Devils and Toon's chances of landing the German Under-21 star as the Bundesliga champions might pull out of the race. United and Newcastle have both made a new No9 a key summer priority. The Premier League giants have both also entered talks for £70m-rated RB Leipzig sensation Benjamin Sesko. Ruben Amorim needs to boost United's firepower after their worst campaign in 30 years last season - with Sesko and Ollie Watkins both on their shortlist. Meanwhile, Toon boss Eddie Howie is having to make plans for what life might look like without Alexander Isak, after the Swede indicated he wants to move on. Liverpool remains favourites to sign Isak, who is valued at £150m by the Magpies. And Stuttgart star Woltemade is one of Europe's hottest prospects. The up-and-coming forward has been in Bayern's sights all summer but price has been an issue. 5 Woltemade was one of Sun Sport's five to watch before the Under-21 Euros - and was the tournament's top goalscorer with six. He rose through the academy ranks at Werder Bremen and was a regular for them at various different youth levels. Man United fans answer whether they still back Ruben Amorim Woltemade, who has earned one senior cap, then broke into their first-team as a teenager and scored two goals in 51 games. He was loaned out to SV Elversberg to get some experience under his belt. Bremen cashed in on him 12 months ago when Stuttgart came calling. He has since been prolific and has fired 17 goals in 33 matches. Speaking earlier this month Stuttgart sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth said: 'Nick is back [at Stuttgart training], we're in contact. 'His teammates welcomed him with a smile, and he arrived with a smile. I think he was happy to be back. He's making a very good impression. He's in good shape.' Howe has endured a difficult transfer window so far - having already seen deals for forwards Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Bryan Mbeumo and Hugo Ekitike hijacked. 5

Man Utd open talks with RB Leipzig over move for Benjamin Sesko
Manchester United have opened talks with RB Leipzig over a potential move for the striker Benjamin Sesko. The 22-year-old is top of the list of targets as United look for a new No9 and it is understood transfer chiefs at the club have made contact with their Bundesliga counterparts. At this stage there has been no bid and it is understood United are sounding out Leipzig over the details of a potential deal. It is understood a deal for the striker, who is also a target for Newcastle United this summer, would cost in the region of €80miilion to €90million (about £69million to £79million) including add-ons and bonuses. That price could be driven up further if there is concrete interest from other clubs, with Leipzig looking to generate as much money as possible from one of their star players. United have already spent nearly £130million on Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo this summer and need to generate funds to bring in more talent. United are also keeping tabs on Villa's Watkins MALCOLM COUZENS/GETTY IMAGES Ruben Amorim, the United head coach, said Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia, who are all training away from the first-team squad back in Manchester, would be welcomed back into the group if they had not secured a transfer by the close of the window but the priority is to sell them as quickly as possible. Marcus Rashford has already joined Barcelona on loan, with an option to make the move permanent at the end of the season. United's director of recruitment, Christopher Vivell, is a strong advocate of Sesko having been at Salzburg in 2019 when the striker moved there from Domzale in his native Slovenia as a 16-year-old and then at Leipzig in 2022 when he agreed a move to the Bundesliga side. The Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins remains high on United's list. However, Villa's stance is that the England international is not for sale. Fixing the team's chronic lack of goals is a priority for Amorim this summer and has already led to the signing of Cunha and Mbeumo, who scored 35 between them in the league last season, only nine fewer than the entire United team managed in their 38 games.
