OSAKA : Tengku Zafrul Aziz has confirmed that his application to join PKR was accepted two weeks ago.
The investment, trade and industry minister said he is now a member of PKR's Ampang division.
'I don't remember the exact date my application was accepted, but it was during a meeting of the party's central leadership council two weeks ago,' he told Malaysian media here today during a visit to the Malaysia Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka.
On May 30, Tengku Zafrul announced his resignation from Umno.

Azalina stated that the updated law covers harassment, threats, insults, and identity misuse, including cases linked to suicide attempts. Offenders could face imprisonment of up to 10 years, fines, or both. She urged citizens to familiarise themselves with the new laws, now in effect. The public is advised to seek clarification from the Legal Affairs Division or the Legal Aid Department. Azalina emphasised that ignorance of the law is not a valid defence. She called on ministries, agencies, and organisations to update employees on legal changes and ensure compliance. Ampang Jaya district police chief ACP Mohd Azam Ismail said the man, 43, was arrested at 11.30 am on Friday in Pasir Mas, Kelantan after the MP discovered the video post on a Facebook account named 'Mohd Syahrizal' on July 30. Advertisement 'The post resulted in negative comments by other Facebook users that stressed the individual and affected their reputation and psychological state, causing the MP to feel threatened and afraid should anything happen to them due to the Facebook account holder's actions. 'A Samsung and a Vivo mobile phone belonging to the suspect were seized to facilitate investigations,' he said in a statement today, adding that the suspect has been remanded for four days from Aug 9 till tomorrow. Bernama FILE PIX PUTRAJAYA - The government has introduced amendments to the Penal Code to address bullying, harassment, insults and identity misuse, including those committed online. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said noted that the amendments were introduced to the Penal Code (Amendment) Act 2025 (Act A1750), which was approved by the King on Feb 25 this year and gazetted on March 7. "It introduces new sections, 507B to 507G, specifically to address bullying committed by any means and methods, including online. "These amendments provide for offences related to harassment, threats, bullying, insults and misuse of identity information, including situations that may lead to suicide attempts as well as cases where the person provoked attempts or commits suicide,' she said in a statement here today. She said offenders are liable to imprisonment for a term that may be extended up to 10 years, and a fine or both. "…it is the responsibility of every citizen to study and comply with these laws that are now in effect,' she said. She advised the public to obtain information directly from the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister's Department or the Legal Aid Department for clarification on the amendments. "Keep in mind that ignorance of the law is not an excuse. A clear understanding of one's rights and responsibilities under the law is the first step towards building a safer, more ethical and humane society,' she added.
