PGTI NexGen 2025: Rookie Tushar Pannu sets bar at five-under on Day One in Ludhiana
Ludhiana: Rookie Tushar Pannu of Karnal set the bar at five-under 31 on the first day of the fifth event of the PGTI NexGen season being played at The Imperial Golf Estate in Ludhiana. The 21-year-old Pannu enjoyed a one-shot lead.
Kushal Singh of Gurugram returned a four-under 32 to be placed second after round one.
The Imperial Golf Estate is a par-72 nine-hole course where the nine holes are played twice to comprise a round. However, due to a rain delay on Tuesday, the first round of the tournament comprised only nine holes instead of 18, with the par for the course being 36.
Tushar Pannu's hot putter ensured he led the field on the opening day with an error-free round. Tushar drained an eagle on the sixth hole along with three birdies on Tuesday, all coming as a result of conversions from a range of 12 to 15 feet. He also made a great par-save on the fourth after an erratic tee shot.
Tushar said, 'When you play just nine holes, the effort is to play steady and stay under par. I was looking at two-under today, so I'm thrilled that I exceeded my expectations. The putter was on fire as I sank a lot of long putts.
'I've had a decent start to my professional career this year with a few top-20s under my belt on the PGTI's main tour. That has given me a lot of confidence coming into this NexGen event.'
Kushal Singh too shot a bogey-free round as he was close to the heels of the leader at 32. Karnal's Rohit Narwal, Panchkula-based Abhishek Kumar, and Chandigarh's Vasu Sehgal were tied for third place at three-under 33.
The tournament offers a prize purse of INR 20 lakh and marks the debut of professional golf and the PGTI in Ludhiana, one of Punjab's major cities.
The event will be played over three rounds (54 holes) with the cut being applied after two rounds (36 holes). The top 36 players and ties will make the cut for the third and final round. The tournament features a field of 72 players and features leading professional golfers from all across India.

Inter Kashi secured their first victory at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the All India Football Federation (AIFF) on Tuesday. This followed the Varanasi-based team's three-point deduction for a disputed I-League match earlier in the year. However, the CAS ruling does not yet award Inter Kashi the I-League title. On April 18, the AIFF's appeals committee ruled against Inter Kashi in a case concerning their match against Namdhari FC on January 13, where Namdhari FC was accused of fielding an 'ineligible player.' This overturned the decision made by the national federation's disciplinary committee. As a result of the appeals committee's decision, Inter Kashi finished second in the I-League with 39 points, while Churchill Brothers of Goa were declared champions with 40 points. Inter Kashi appealed the AIFF appeals committee's decision to the CAS on April 24, and the world's highest sports tribunal ruled in favour of the club on Tuesday. Inter Kashi has another appeal pending at the CAS, which could determine the 2024-25 I-League champions. Despite this, the AIFF awarded the trophy to Churchill Brothers based on the appeals committee's decision. As per the first ruling, the CAS directed the AIFF to pay two thousand Swiss francs (Rs 2.12 lakh approx) to Inter Kashi, while Churchill Brothers and Namdhari FC must each pay one thousand Swiss francs (Rs 1.06 lakh) to the Varanasi-based club as a contribution towards its legal costs and other expenses incurred during the arbitration proceedings. Following Inter Kashi's first appeal to the CAS, the AIFF appeals committee ruled in favour of Churchill Brothers and Real Kashmir in two other cases involving their respective matches against Inter Kashi concerning the re-registration of player Mario Barco by the Varanasi-based club. Inter Kashi lost an additional four points, ending the league in sixth place with 35 points, while Churchill and Real Kashmir each gained two points. Inter Kashi then filed their second appeal to the CAS, which has yet to make a decision. After the latest CAS ruling, Inter Kashi would be in second place with 38 points, trailing Churchill (42 points). K'taka govt gears up for International Yoga Day, announces grand plans
Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has announced that it is all set to host a grand event to mark International Yoga Day on June 21 this year. Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao announced that International Yoga Day will be celebrated on June 21 at the Vidhana Soudha steps with the theme "Yoga for One Earth, One Health." Rao further stated that, 'This year, about five lakh people will be taught yoga across the state. The government plans to organise 10,000 yoga programmes state-wide, with a large-scale event specifically planned in Mysuru.' Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the Governor, and other dignitaries are expected to participate in the event, with an anticipated attendance of five thousand people. Emphasising the importance of yoga for health, both physically and mentally, he underlined that Yoga has ancient roots and its prominence is growing globally. Regarding the introduction of yoga classes in schools, he mentioned that discussions have already taken place. He stated that yoga teachers and classes in schools will yield definite benefits. However, Rao further stressed that sports should be prioritised for children at a young age. He further opined that teaching yoga when children are older would yield better results. The sports teachers should be given higher priority than yoga teachers in schools, he opined. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has upheld Inter Kashi FC's appeal, reversing a prior decision by the AIFF Appeals Committee and awarding a 3-0 win against Namdhari FC for fielding an ineligible player in I-League 2024-25. The CAS further set aside the decision issued by the Appeal Committee and upheld the terms of the decision of the Disciplinary Committee, dated February 24, 2025, which deemed Namdhari FC to have fielded an ineligible player in Match 45 of the I-League 2024-25 (Namdhari FC vs Inter Kashi). More from Football Why Inter Kashi have filed an appeal before CAS Churchill Brothers had finished with 40 points from 22 games at the end of the season, one more than Inter Kashi, and were set to join the Indian Super League (ISL) – the top division of Indian football – by virtue of being the I-League champion. Inter Kashi, however, had played a game against Namdhari FC in which their opponents collected a 2-0 win while reportedly fielding an ineligible player. Kashi appealed against Namdhari fielding Brazilian forward Cledson Carvalho da Silva despite picking up four yellow cards prior to the game, which should have resulted in his suspension. Namdhari thus were docked the three points they had collected following their victory, which were awarded to Kashi. Things, however, started getting complicated for all parties involved after Namdhari appealed against the decision before the Delhi-based governing body, claiming Cledson was fielded as the 'AIFF CMS portal did not show the player was banned for the game". Thus the 3-0 victory that was awarded to Inter Kashi due to Namdhari FC's 'forfeiture' as a result of fielding an ineligible player was put on hold until the AIFF arrived at a final decision.
