Kevin Garnett shares why he would trade the Mavs number one pick for Giannis: "We are trying to win now"
Hall of Fame teammates Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce animatedly discussed what they would do with the No.1 pick if they were in charge of the Dallas Mavericks.
Garnett started the discussion by calling the Draft Lottery a bogus process because the Draft should be for bad teams that need players from college to bolster their rosters. The Mavs aren't one of those teams because they have a lineup many believe would be a contending team when they are fully healthy.

However, because Dallas did not make the playoffs, they had a 1.8 percent chance of winning the lottery, and by a stroke of luck, they ended up with the top pick. However, KG says the Mavs don't need a future star right now.
"Dallas has the now, the middle, and the later. They're built for the now, the middle, and later…We trying to win now. I got the guns and the beam on me now. I got to win now. So the now is now," said Garnett.
Mavs in a win-now mode
When the Mavs traded Luka Doncic for Anthony Davis, the goal was to build a win-now team with players aligning with Kyrie's timeline. Cooper Flagg is a great talent but does not fit the bill. Giannis Antetokounmpo does, so that's why KG said if he ran the Mavs, he would use the top pick to trade for the "Greek Freak."

But Pierce questioned Garnett's move, asking him what if adding Giannis does not work out in Dallas, and Cooper turns out to be the generational talent everyone says he is. "The Big Ticket" then threw the question back to his former Celtics teammate, asking him 'What if it's Flagg who does not pan out?' At least Giannis is a proven commodity.
"Bro it's damn if you do, damn if you don't," added KG. "But you got the Flagg, bro. The name of the game is capture the Flagg. Now I think you entertain the best offers. You finna have Kyrie, Anthony Davis, two real bigs with Lively and Gafford. Bro, come on, bro. You got Washington, man. Man, you got a horse of dogs over there. Man sh**, Klay? Sh**.
The key is securing the 'Flagg"
Make no mistake—the Bucks have not said that they are willing to trade Antetokounmpo, and Giannis has not declared that he wants to leave Milwaukee. But the chatter around is getting louder. And as they say, where there is smoke, there is fire, especially when it's coming from Shams Charania.

Giannis Antetokounmpo, the two-time NBA MVP, has not made any firm decisions about his future. But sources tell me for the first time in his 12-year NBA career, he is open-minded about whether his best fit is in Milwaukee or playing elsewhere—and exploring what those options outside of Milwaukee look like," Shams announced on "Get Up."
But whether the Bucks make Giannis available or not is the least of the Mavs' problems. What's important for them is that, as KG said, they have 'secured the Flagg'. And once the free agency period opens at the end of next month, the Mavs have to be all ears and listen to every offer that comes their way.

Dallas Wings Get Bad News on Monday
Dallas Wings Get Bad News on Monday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Dallas Wings will take the court without their rookie point guard Paige Bueckers on Tuesday night against the Seattle Storm after she was ruled out under the WNBA's concussion protocol on Monday. Advertisement Bueckers, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, sustained the injury late in Thursday's 97-92 loss to the Chicago Sky, and Dallas-based reporter Grant Afseth announced on X that she would miss at least Tuesday's game. This latest setback comes as the Wings continue to search for their identity early in the season, sitting at 1-6 after back-to-back losses to Chicago, tied for last place in the league standings. Despite the lofty expectations surrounding Bueckers entering her rookie campaign, the Wings have struggled to gain traction. In 2024, Dallas finished with a 9-31 record, ranking fifth in the WNBA's Western Conference under head coach Latricia Trammell. Advertisement Entering 2025, Dallas hoped to improve upon that record by blending veteran scorers like Arike Ogunbowale (22.2 points per game last season) and emerging talent in NaLyssa Smith, Maddy Siegrist, DiJonai Carrington and Bueckers. However, the season has not gone as planned. Dallas Wings guards Paige Bueckers (5) and DiJonai Carrington (21).David Butler II-Imagn Images After opening the year with four straight defeats, the Wings finally notched a win against the Connecticut Sun on May 27 with a 109-87 victory featuring 21 points, seven assists and five rebounds from Bueckers. Unfortunately, they followed that up with consecutive losses to the Sky. Through her first six games, Bueckers was averaging 14.7 points, 6.7 assists and 4.7 rebounds per contest, while leading the team in assists, steals (2.0) and blocks (1.0). Christian Yelich's homer powers Brewers to 8th straight win, beating Reds 3-2
CINCINNATI (AP) — Christian Yelich hit his fourth home run in six games and the Milwaukee Brewers extended their winning streak to eight games, beating the Cincinnati Reds 3-2 Monday night. Yelich — named the National League Player of the Week earlier in the day — connected on a full-count slider from Brady Singer (6-4) and drove it 417 feet to straightaway center and off the batter's eye to put Milwaukee on top in the third inning. Advertisement Sal Frelick had a pair of hits for the Brewers, who have their longest winning streak since running off nine straight in August 2023. Aaron Civale (1-1) picked up his first win of the season in his third start since missing nearly two months due to a strained left hamstring. The right-hander, who went 5 1/3 innings, rebounded after allowing two runs in the first and struck out five. Trevor Megill retired Cincinnati in order in the ninth for his 12th save in 13 opportunities. The Reds took a 2-0 lead in the first on RBI base hits by Elly De La Cruz and Spencer Steer. The Brewers responded with a pair in the second after loading the bases. Joey Ortiz drew a walk to score Sal Frelick and Brice Turang's sacrifice fly plated Andrew Monasterio. Advertisement Key moment The Reds had runners on first and second with one out in the sixth inning, but Milwaukee left-hander Rob Zastryzny struck out Jose Trevino and got pinch-hitter Santiago Espinal to ground out. Zastryzny was acquired in a trade with the Yankees on May 16. He was with the Brewers last season and went 1-0 with a 1.17 ERA in nine appearances. He hasn't allowed a run in seven appearances this year. Key stat Yelich is batting .450 during his nine-game hitting streak. He has gone 18 for 40 with six homers and 14 RBIs. Up next Milwaukee right-hander Freddy Peralta (5-3, 2.77 ERA) has the eighth-lowest ERA in the NL. Cincinnati will go with RHP Hunter Greene (4-3, 2.63 ERA). ___ AP MLB: Joe Reedy, The Associated Press

Shaquille O'Neal Makes Strong Statement Amid Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade Rumors
Shaquille O'Neal Makes Strong Statement Amid Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade Rumors originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The past couple of weeks have seen NBA trade rumors reach a fever pitch surrounding Milwaukee Bucks' star Giannis Antetokounmpo, with teams such as the Toronto Raptors, San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks listed among the contenders. Advertisement On Monday, as trade rumors continue to swirl, NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal offered a contrarian view on an episode of "Good Word with Goodwill." When asked what advice he'd give a 30-year-old Antetokounmpo weighing a departure from Milwaukee, O'Neal emphasized that "social media is the market now," downplaying traditional notions of "big markets." "Nobody cares what city you're in anymore. This ain't the 90s," O'Neal said. He argued further that Antetokounmpo has already cultivated a global brand as the "Greek Freak," making any city capable of supporting his stardom, saying that he should instead, "Go upstairs and be like 'I want to see all the free agents, I want all the phone numbers and I want to talk to them.' He should bring people to help." Several current small-market stars reinforce O'Neal's point. Advertisement Nikola Jokic, playing in Denver, has won multiple MVPs (2021, 2022, 2024) and an NBA championship (2023), despite Denver's middle-market status. Similarly, Luka Doncic thrived in Dallas, elevating the Mavericks to perennial contenders and even an NBA Finals appearance in 2024. This year's 2025 NBA Finals also features two small-market teams in the Indiana Pacers and Oklahoma City Thunder. Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Blaze-Imagn Images Antetokounmpo himself has grown his off-court influence from Milwaukee, with endorsement deals and social media engagement rivaling some of the larger markets. While Los Angeles still offers unique media exposure, O'Neal suggested that the increased tax burden and constant media circus could offset those advantages.
