Just how realistic would a Giannis Antetokounmpo trade to the Boston Celtics be?

Just how realistic would a Giannis Antetokounmpo trade to the Boston Celtics be? Just how realistic would a Giannis Antetokounmpo trade to the Boston Celtics be? We have heard some speculation from well-connected members of the national NBA media suggest that such a swap with the Milwaukee Bucks could be on the table given the potential return for the Bucks would match the sort of ask they would have in mind for the Greek Freak. But what about in the other direction? Would Boston be up to trade away the sort of package it would take to get Giannis on the Celtics roster given it would almost certainly require dealing away star Boston forward Jaylen Brown? The hosts of the CLNS Media "Garden Report" podcast, Bobby Manning, Noa Dalzell, Jimmy Toscano, A. Sherrod Blakely and John Zannis debated such a deal and its merits on a recent episode of their show. Check it out below! Is it realistic for the Boston Celtics to trade for Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo?

Is it realistic for the Boston Celtics to trade for Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo? Is it realistic for the Boston Celtics to trade for Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo? With the Celtics currently a second apron ball club staring down the largest payroll and tax bill in the history of the NBA, a trade for a player making as much as Giannis does makes very little sense at first glance. But what if the deal involved multiple teams, and also sent out other players to help Boston get cheaper as well? Would such a deal need to include one of star forwards Jayson Tatum or Jaylen Brown? Such scenarios quickly get very complex from a cap rules point of view, but it would not be impossible to get the Bucks star on the Celtics roster. The question is more about whether it would make sense. The folks behind the "NBC Sports Boston" YouTube channel put together a clip with Chris Forsberg and Trenni Casey on "Arbella Early Edition" to talk it all over. Check it out below!

Should Mavs consider trading No. 1 pick for Giannis?

Should Mavs consider trading No. 1 pick for Giannis? | The Kevin O'Connor Show Yahoo Sports senior NBA analyst Kevin O'Connor and Tate Fraizer discuss whether or not the Dallas Mavericks should consider trading their number 1 pick in the draft for Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo. Hear the full conversation on 'The Kevin O'Connor Show' and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you listen. View more Video Transcript The Bucks, they call up the Mavericks on draft night, and they offer Giannis for Cooper flag. Advertisement And salaries needed to meet the requirements to get Giannis. Giannis for flag. Are you saying yes if you're the Mavericks? If I am the Mavericks, I am definitely not even entertaining the phone call because of what is already like they just got given, they got response. You're not answering. No, I'm not even there are no phone call like I, if I am the ownership group, yeah, if I'm, what's his name, Pat, whatever, Dumont, I am making. Sure that the lines are cut. No one can call Nico. Uh, we're changing his phone number. We don't want him talking to the Boston Celtics, especially. I feel like that's the team that I would be circling the most to make sure that Brad Stevens does not get Nico Harrison's phone number and call him with some sort of tantalizing idea, put in his mind that Cooper Flag's gonna leave anyway after his rookie deal and come to the Boston Celtics. Advertisement So you might as well rip the band-aid. Now, like, that would be the terrifying phone call. But yeah, the Mavericks don't answer the phone, do the right thing. You got literally the greatest second chance of all time to kind of right the wrong of what you did with Luca. You get a generational superstar who just happens to kind of be a power forward that fits into a similar vein as Dirk. If his career can play out in a similar way, that would be amazing. So as a franchise, the Mavericks should not, uh, pick up the phone. And honestly, if I Giannis, and I do think that the Bucks are working with Giannis, or at least in communication with Giannis. Advertisement I think that Giannis has told them that it's either send me somewhere in the east, elsewhere in the east, where I can go and dominate or like tell Chris Middleton to sign here for the minimum and you know, we, we try to figure out some way to get this machine going in Milwaukee for one more run. I don't know what it ends up looking like, but To me, Kevin, the, the Spurs are much more inclined to trade for Durant at #2 than they would for Giannis. And I feel like the Mavericks, they can't, even though the Mavericks kid definitely would take the phone call, I think internally that staff would be like, of course. We want to have Giannis in this building. Advertisement They just can't for PR reasons. So I feel like as much as the Giannis talk is very interesting and fascinating, and Europe loves the Spurs, right, as a, as a continent, like that's the team over there. But yeah, you can't do it. Nico, don't do it. Leave Cooper flag in Dallas.

The Boston Celtics labeled as a logical landing spot for Giannis Antetokounmpo via trade.

The Boston Celtics labeled as a logical landing spot for Giannis Antetokounmpo via trade. Since Jayson Tatum suffered his Achilles tendon injury, the rumor mill has primarily focused on players who could be leaving the Boston Celtics via trade. Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis and even Jaylen Brown have all been discussed as potential trade chips for Brad Stevens. However, through all of the talk, very little has been said regarding who the Celtics could target this summer. After all, trades usually see players swapping teams. Therefore, any moves Boston chooses to make, will have an impact of Joe Mazzulla's roster. In a May 29 episode of ESPN's "Get Up", Brian Windhorst cited the Celtics as a team that could make sense in a trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo. Windhorst's reasoning is that Boston is one of the few teams that could put together a competitive trade package while remaining a competitive roster after the deal had been completed. "I think you have to look at the teams that could make a trade for Giannis that the Bucks would accept and on the other side of the trade would have a contending team," Windhorst said. "So Boston would be on that list. Boston may be the only one." Any move for Giannis would likely entail Boston trading away Brown. His contract would be the most logical in terms of salary matching. Furthermore, he would ensure the Milwaukee Bucks have a high-level forward to continue building around. So, while it's highly unlikely the Celtics get involved in any Giannis sweepstakes, it's good to know they would be among the front-runners due to the strength in depth of the current roster. In truth, though, Stevens is likely going to make a series of smaller moves to help position the franchise for when Tatum returns to the rotation ahead of the 2026-27 season. Five NBA Superstars Most Likely To Be Traded This Summer

The summer of 2025 is nearly here, and that means another wild offseason for the NBA. While most teams have already officially begun their annual hiatus, the real action doesn't start until after the NBA Finals, when a new champion is crowned and the games are over. This year, while it's impossible to predict how things will play out, it's shaping up to be quite a historic offseason for the NBA. With the increased parity across the league, more teams than ever are encouraged to make a move just to stay one step ahead of the competition. Meanwhile, more stars than ever before are rumored to be potentially available. Advertisement As it stands, several max-contract players are on the verge of a change of scenery, and it threatens to disrupt the NBA's balance of power for years to come. The only question is which one of them will be moved, and which teams will be involved on the other end of the deal. Giannis Antetokounmpo Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo (34) warms up before a game against the Chicago Bulls at Fiserv Credit: Benny Sieu-Imagn Images Mr. Loyalty himself has been at the center of trade rumors lately, and he's projected to be the biggest prize of the upcoming offseason. As a 2x MVP and NBA champion, Giannis (30) finds himself reconsidering his future after another failed season with the Bucks. With averages of 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 6.5 assists this season, Antetokounmpo was third in MVP voting, and he's the kind of player that can single-handedly alter championship odds. But with three years and $174 million left on his contract, Giannis would have to force his way out if he wants a change of scenery anytime soon. Advertisement Despite the cost of his acquisition, teams will be living up to make an offer for Giannis, especially in the West. According to the latest reports, the Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs are the latest frontrunners to sign the future NBA Hall of Famer. Jaylen Brown Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown (7) react after a play against the New York Knicks in the second quarter during game two of the second round for the 2025 NBA Playoffs at TD Credit: David Butler II-Imagn Images The Boston Celtics are still the most recent NBA champions, but they've officially been dethroned after their series loss to the New York Knicks. As one of the league's most successful organizations, the Cs aren't as desperate for change as some other teams, but they are still due for a major move. With a historically high payroll, many experts are convinced that Jaylen Brown could be traded for the sake of preserving some cap flexibility. In the wake of Jayson Tatum's Achilles injury, those odds have only increased. Advertisement Brown, 28, averaged 22.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game this season, and his two-way game helped his team secure the second-best record in the East. In the right situation, Brown could have similar success, given that his skills translate well to any system. Kevin Durant Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant (35) during a timeout in the second half against the Toronto Raptors at Footprint Credit: Rick Scuteri-Imagn Images In Phoenix, the Kevin Durant era has been a disaster so far, and the only way out is to trade Durant and retool the roster around Devin Booker. While the market is questionable for a 36-year-old star in decline, Durant's skillset, resume, and status as a 2x champion ensure that he'll always have a place in the NBA. Advertisement With averages of 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game this season, KD's skills as a scorer and shooter can enhance the offense of any team, and his experience as a leader ensures he always commands some level of respect in the locker room. The best part about Durant's situation is that his contract is extremely tradable at just one year and $54.7 million. The San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets are said to be interested in Durant, but it's no secret that he's also generated some interest from the Warriors, who tried to trade for him back in February. For Durant, the Suns want a package that includes a young player and multiple first-round picks. Zion Williamson New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson (1) reacts during the second half against the Boston Celtics at TD Garden. Mandatory Credit: Paul Rutherford-Imagn ImagesCredit: Paul Rutherford-Imagn Images Zion's loyalty to the Pelicans has been in doubt ever since he arrived from Duke. Over the years, he's faded into obscurity in New Orleans thanks to constant injury struggles and a lack of any team success during his tenure. Advertisement The former No. 1 overall pick was once the future of the franchise, but the Pelicans' owner now claims that he wants to move on from Williamson altogether after watching his team finish 14th in the standings. With no traction on building a contender, the Pels are better off starting over, which means giving Zion the fresh start he desperately needs. With career averages of 24.7 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game, Williamson has superstar potential, but it will only take the right team to bring out his best. Only teams willing to take a major risk will go for Williamson, and the Pistons are one of the major teams that could get it done. Paul George Dec 23, 2024; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA; Philadelphia 76ers forward Paul George (8) shoots the ball against the San Antonio Spurs during the second quarter at Wells Fargo Center. Mandatory Credit: Bill Streicher-Imagn ImagesCredit: Bill Streicher-Imagn Images The Philadelphia 76ers had a nightmarish season, and Paul George has been designated as the scapegoat coming off one of the worst stretches of his career. In his first season in Philly, George averaged 16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game as the 76ers finished 13th in the East (24-58). Advertisement The 35-year-old swingman still has another three years and $161 million on his contract, but the Sixers are hoping to get out of it with a trade this summer. Despite his decline, George still has a desirable skill set as a two-way wing player, and he might return to form in the right situation. At this stage of his career, the best place for PG would be a veteran, win-now team like the Lakers, Knicks, or Heat. If not, a younger team like the Utah Jazz could get involved if they're able to secure this year's No. 3 pick in the deal. With so many big names available, it's only a matter of time before the NBA's next seismic move. This summer has a chance to be truly historic regarding player movement, and it stands to reason that the league will never be the same again after this period of major change.
