BYD Sime Motors teams up with Transport Ministry to reduce carbon emission

Previous Next
KUALA LUMPUR: BYD Sime Motors, distributor of BYD cars in Malaysia, is partnering with the Transport Ministry (MoT) to advance the nation's low-carbon mobility agenda.
A key focus of the collaboration is reducing carbon emissions through increased electric vehicle (EV) adoption in Malaysia.
The partnership introduces a six-month programme called "Jom Pandu BYD Bersama MoT", supported by BYD Sime Motors' partner Gentari Sdn Bhd via Gentari Green Mobility Sdn Bhd.
The latter has installed two EV chargers at the ministry's headquarters in Putrajaya
The partnership was launched on Wednesday by Transport Minister Loke Siew and Jeffrey Gan, Sime Motors managing director for Southeast Asia.
Through the initiative, BYD Sime Motors will loan its full EV lineup to the ministry. This includes BYD Sealion 7, Seal, Atto 3 Ultra, M6 and Dolphin.
The partnership allows the ministry's personnel to test drive these vehicles, providing them direct, practical insights into their performance, comfort and everyday convenience.
It also aims to enhance awareness of EV ownership and usability.
Gan said BYD Sime Motors is proud to be at the forefront of this initiative in leading Malaysia's transition to electric mobility together with the ministry.
"We remain focused on our goal of supporting the ministry's carbon emissions reduction efforts. Through this immersive experience, we hope to encourage greater adoption of electric vehicles, not only by the public but also within government mobility use."
Beyond the product experience, the initiative marks a strategic step in creating viable pathways for EV integration within government operations, supporting the broader shift toward a sustainable and low-carbon transportation system.
BYD Sime Motors, in partnership with Gentari, has installed two 22kW AC chargers at the ministry's headquarters in Putrajaya.
The installation underscores the importance of strong public-private partnerships in building a reliable, safe, and accessible EV charging network across Malaysia.
To date, Gentari operates over 530 EV charging points nationwide, actively contributing to the national target of 10,000 public chargers by 2025, in line with the National Energy Transition Roadmap.

Cape EMS, EVC collaborate to manufacture and supply EV charging stations

KUALA LUMPUR: Cape EMS Bhd's wholly owned subsidiary Cape Renewable Sdn Bhd has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with EV Connection Sdn Bhd (EVC) to manufacture and supply electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, the provider of EV charging and solar infrastructure solutions said the project will also involve solar-related peripherals to support the growing demand for green mobility and renewable energy solutions in Malaysia. "Under the partnership, Cape Renewable will be responsible for manufacturing and supplying EV chargers and solar system components, while EVC will oversee the installation of EV charging stations and photovoltaic (PV) systems. "The first phase of the collaboration will see EV chargers installed at the Vectrix Experience Centre in Senai, Johor Bahru, as well as other designated locations to support the EV taxi project," it said. It noted that the MoU will be effective for two years, with the option for extension upon mutual agreement. Cape EMS added that the collaboration with EVC aligns with its vision of being at the forefront of sustainable solutions in electronics manufacturing and renewable energy. "With Malaysia's EV ecosystem poised for rapid growth, this partnership allows us to play an integral role in enabling cleaner transportation and advancing the nation's sustainability agenda," it added. -- BERNAMA

Tesla's sales fall in France, Denmark for seventh straight month

Tesla's sales dropped by over a third in Europe in the first six months of the year.(EPA Images pic) AUSTIN : Sales of new Tesla cars in France and Denmark fell in July for the seventh straight month, as the EV maker struggles with a backlash to CEO Elon Musk's political views, regulatory challenges and competition from European and Chinese brands. Tesla's aging line-up is facing a wave of low-cost EV rivals, especially from China. It is rolling out a revamped Model Y and starting to produce a new, cheaper model, but production of that will only ramp up next quarter, later than initially expected. The brand's sales were down 27% year-on-year in July to 1,307 cars in France, and down 52% to 336 cars in Denmark, official industry data showed, after dropping by over a third in Europe in the first six months of the year. With no more affordable-end vehicles on the horizon until the last three months of the year and the upcoming end of a US$7,500 US tax break for EV buyers, Musk acknowledged in July that the company could have 'a few rough quarters'. He said tough automated driving regulations in Europe made it harder to sell the Model Y in some countries, as the vehicle's optional supervised self-driving is 'a huge selling point'. 'Our sales in Europe, we think will improve significantly once we are able to give customers the same experience that they have in the US,' he told analysts. Model Y registrations in Denmark fell by 49% in July. Tesla launched in June a trial robotaxi service in Austin, Texas, using about a dozen Model Y SUVs controlled by its autonomous-driving software. But the roll-out of its self-driving features elsewhere in the US is bogged down because it hasn't received the required permits. Overall car sales slid 8% in France and were up 20% in Denmark in July, the industry data showed. European automakers Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, Stellantis, Renault and BMW have published downbeat second-quarter results, warning of pressure from US import tariffs and falling demand.

CAAM-MAVCOM merger takes effect, Sharil Tarmizi named new chairman

PUTRAJAYA: The merger between the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) and the Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM) is now in full effect, consolidating all regulatory functions under CAAM. The Ministry of Transport (MOT) confirmed the move today, marking a shift towards a more streamlined aviation oversight system aligned with global standards. Datuk Mohamed Sharil Tarmizi has been appointed as the new chairman of CAAM, effective immediately. With over three decades of legal and corporate leadership experience, including his tenure at the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Sharil is expected to drive CAAM's transformation. 'His expertise in regulatory frameworks will be crucial as CAAM takes on expanded responsibilities,' the MOT stated. The restructured CAAM now operates as a Statutory Body with Separated Remuneration and Independence (BBDSB), granting it financial and operational autonomy. All MAVCOM staff have been offered positions within CAAM, with 93% accepting the transfer. The revamped CAAM Authority now includes economic and consumer rights experts to strengthen governance. 'This merger will enhance Malaysia's aviation efficiency and global competitiveness,' the ministry added. - Bernama
