OpenAI gives ChatGPT a memory boost so AI can remember chats, update available to free users now
If you are using the free version of ChatGPT, here is some good news for you. Once exclusive to Pro users, the ChatGPT memory boost feature is now available for free users as well. Launched in April, the enhanced memory feature now enables ChatGPT to offer more personalised responses by remembering your preferences and interests. This allows it to be even more useful across tasks such as writing, learning, seeking advice, and more. Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), OpenAI says, "We're starting to roll out a lightweight version of memory improvements to Free users. In addition to existing saved memories, ChatGPT now references your recent conversations to provide more personalised responses."
advertisementTo test this feature and to measure how much your go-to AI model knows about you, just ask "Describe me based on our chats." Now, it may not have recorded the conversations that you had with it 6 months ago, but it has records of all the recent chats.
For those granted access to the feature, OpenAI offers the option to disable it if preferred. As Sam Altman explained in a post on X, 'You can, of course, opt out of this, or memory all together. And you can use temporary chat if you want to have a conversation that won't use or affect memory.'advertisement
To turn off the feature, simply go to Settings > Personalisation > Memory. From there, you can switch memory off entirely, preventing ChatGPT from retaining any information from your future chats. You also have the option to tap "Manage Memory" to review what has been saved or to erase it completely. It is noteworthy that chat memory is not a new feature, but OpenAI has improved it for the better. OpenAI improves Codex, its coding assistant Now for paid users, OpenAI's AI-powered coding assistant, Codex, is now being extended to ChatGPT Plus subscribers. Previously, access was limited to those on the Enterprise, Team, or Pro plans. With this broader rollout, independent developers and smaller teams can now benefit from Codex's capabilities, which are designed to streamline writing, testing, and debugging code. The most noteworthy enhancement in this update is Codex's new ability to access the internet during programming tasks. This functionality enables the assistant to install packages, interact with staging environments, and run tests that require fetching online resources. However, OpenAI is proceeding cautiously—internet access is switched off by default. Users can enable it manually and specify exactly which domains Codex may access and which HTTP methods it's permitted to use.OpenAI also noted that it is 'actively monitoring for prompt injection attacks,' where bad actors attempt to manipulate Codex into performing unintended web actions, in order to keep the tool secure and reliable.

Trump says relationship with Musk is ‘over,' warns against funding democrats
US President Donald Trump on Saturday admitted that his relationship with Elon Musk, once a key ally and donor, is likely over. 'I would assume so, yeah,' he said in a telephonic interview with NBC News. Trump also warned of 'serious consequences' if the tech mogul provides financial support to Democratic candidates challenging Republicans who back the administration's sweeping tax-cut and spending bill. 'If he does, he'll have to pay the consequences,' Trump added, though he declined to specify what those consequences might rift between the two prominent figures erupted publicly earlier this week, with Musk criticizing the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" on X (formerly Twitter), calling it a 'disgusting abomination' and warning that Trump's tariff policies could trigger a even posted, then deleted, a post on X supporting Trump's impeachment, as well as a reference to Trump's past ties to Jeffrey Epstein, an allegation Trump dismissed as 'old news.' Trump responded harshly, accusing Musk of being 'disrespectful to the office of the President' and expressing disappointment in the billionaire, who has openly attacked the president's signature tax and GOP-Led spending bill, labelling it bloated and unfair to clean energy industriesMusk, a major donor during Trump's 2024 campaign, was appointed head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), where he led deep cuts to federal said he is confident the bill will pass before the July 4th deadline. Elon Musk Deletes three of his most-damaging Tweets against Donald Trump, the 'Really Big Bomb' and ...
File Image In a dramatic escalation of their public feud, billionaire Tesla CEO Elon Musk accused President Donald Trump of appearing in the Epstein files. As hours passed, there appears to be kind of reconciliation effort, damage control or maybe to reduce the intensity of animosity. Elon Musk has deleted some of his most damaging Twitter posts against Donald Trump, seemingly attempting to walk back the explosive claim. Another tweet that Trump has deleted is where he apparently supported Trump's impeachment as President and that JD Vance should replace him as the US President. In now-deleted posts, Musk claimed Trump was linked to the infamous child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein , alleging, 'That is the real reason [the Epstein files] have not been made public.' He added, 'Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out.' Musk's sudden deletion of the posts suggests an attempt to de-escalate, but the fallout from the accusation continues to reverberate. The public awaits further developments in this high-stakes clash between two of the nation's most influential figures. How Donald Trump vs Elon Musk fight started and then exploded The clash stems from Musk's opposition to Trump's 'Big Beautiful Bill,' a controversial proposal that includes historic cuts to Medicaid and food assistance programs while eliminating electric vehicle tax credits that benefit Musk's Tesla. The spat began when Musk, objecting to the bill's impact on his company's bottom line, launched a relentless social media campaign to derail it. His posts created a rift among Republicans, who need near-unanimous party support to pass the legislation. Trump, irritated by Musk's dissent, fired back with pointed jabs, prompting Musk to go nuclear. During a press conference, Trump expressed disappointment with the Tesla CEO, attributing Musk's opposition to the bill's proposed cuts to electric-vehicle (EV) tax credits. 'I'm very disappointed because Elon knew the inner workings of this bill better than almost anybody sitting here,' Trump told reporters. 'All of a sudden, he had a problem, and he only developed a problem when he found out we're going to have to cut the EV mandate.' Musk fired back in real time, posting rebuttals on Twitter as Trump spoke. He wrote, 'Such ingratitude,' highlighting his significant financial support for Republicans during the 2024 election. 'Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House, and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate,' Musk claimed. AI Masterclass for Students. Musk-Trump feud puts Washington power couple Millers in the spotlight
Just before Elon Musk's very public clash with Donald Trump erupted on social media, a quieter rift was already taking shape — this one between Musk and one of Washington's most powerful couples, Stephen and Katie Miller. read more Before Elon Musk and Donald Trump's high-profile clash on social media reached a breaking point, another split quietly unfolded- this time involving Musk and one of Washington's most influential power couples: Stephen and Katie Miller. Stephen Miller, a key figure in Donald Trump's inner circle and deputy chief of staff at the White House, where his wife Katie Miller, previously served as Elon Musk's spokesperson. But after Musk stepped back from his association with DOGE, Katie chose to dedicate herself fully to working with Musk. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD That decision has taken on heightened significance in the aftermath of Thursday's highly publicised falling-out between Musk and Trump, a feud that rocked political circles and business spheres alike. As the two titans exchanged increasingly aggressive blows on social media including Musk suggesting Trump could be impeached and replaced by Vice President JD Vance and Trump retaliating with threats to sever federal contracts tied to Musk's businesses, the Millers found themselves awkwardly positioned on opposite sides of the divide. Katie Miller, who was in Texas last week accompanying Musk during a series of interviews with science and space journalists following SpaceX's ninth Starship test flight, has been openly supportive of Musk online. Her profile on X (formerly Twitter) now features a SpaceX rocket in the header and includes a brief description: 'wife of @stephenm.' Her posts frequently highlight Musk's achievements, and on Friday, her only public comment was a humorous reply to a meme of her husband edited to appear as a Home Depot employee, referencing immigration raids. According to one former colleague, the situation may soon force a decision. 'She can't align with both Elon and Trump — eventually, she'll have to choose,' the person told CNN. Musk, for his part, unfollowed Stephen Miller on X amid the fallout on Thursday. However, both Stephen and Katie continued following Musk on Friday. The implications for Stephen Miller's future in Trump's Washington remain uncertain. While some insiders suggest his influence could take a hit, especially if Katie's ties to Musk are perceived as a conflict of interest, others downplay the issue. Among Trump's advisers, Miller remains second only to Chief of Staff Susie Wiles in terms of clout. Some even speculate that Miller could be next in line should Wiles exit her role. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Still, one senior official acknowledged the potential complications: 'This whole situation makes things messier. The fact that Katie is on Musk's payroll doesn't help Stephen.' But others within the administration insist the President remains firmly supportive. 'Trump trusts Stephen more than almost anyone,' another top White House official told CNN. 'Katie's job with Musk has nothing to do with Stephen or his standing.' The broader Musk-Trump rupture triggered immediate market tremors, with Tesla's stock sliding 14% on Thursday before regaining ground the following day. Meanwhile, the fallout has created unease among Republican lawmakers working to push through a major spending package facing stiff resistance from Democrats and some conservative holdouts. Beyond the political drama, the consequences of this rift could reshape both men's futures. For Trump, severing ties with Musk risks alienating tech donors, social media followers, and younger male voters — key demographics that have been increasingly drawn to Musk's brand. This split may also complicate fundraising efforts ahead of the midterm elections. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD For Musk, the risks are more tangible. Losing Trump's favour could invite closer scrutiny of his companies' government contracts, heighten regulatory pressure, and potentially imperil the financial health of his ventures. As the dust settles, all eyes remain on how both camps and the Millers caught in the middle handle the fallout from one of the most high-profile political business breakups in recent memory.
