Tanker overturns in Cape Winelands, rain hampers recovery efforts
Cape Winelands District Municipality spokesperson Jo-Anne Otto said fire services officials responded to the incident in Rooshoek Road, outside Wellington.
'A tanker truck left the gravel road and overturned late last night. Fortunately, the tanker has remained intact, and all diesel has been contained. No injuries were reported,' she said.
Nitric acid could react explosively with diesel fuel.
The road is likely to remain closed for a few hours as the weather hampers recovery efforts, according to Otto.
'Learners attending Groenberg Primary School will have access to the grounds. Motorists can make use of the alternative route via Hermon Road. Services are doing their best to work as swiftly as possible,' she added.
A cut-off low weather system brought heavy rain, wind, and cold temperatures across the Western Cape, causing chaos on Wednesday.

South Africa Is Considering Flood Insurance for Large Cities
South Africa is studying whether some of its largest cities should take out flood insurance after a series of disasters in recent years led to bailouts from the government. The insurance being considered is parametric, a type of cover that gets paid out when a specific event, such as a certain level of rainfall, occurs rather than reimbursing the actual loss. Because it is triggered by an event rather than an assessment, payouts are quicker.
