Safety kits distributed to electricians of Pithapuram
Mangalagiri: Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan on Sunday emphasised the importance of safety and security for electricians, who often risk their lives in their profession. He also announced plans to organise job fairs for unemployed youth in the Pithapuram constituency every three months.
Speaking at a meeting with 325 private electricians from across the Pithapuram constituency at his camp office in Mangalagiri, Pawan Kalyan distributed safety kits designed to protect them in their workplaces. Each kit includes essential electrical tools, rubber gloves, safety shoes, and a jacket.
Recalling a recent tragedy, Pawan Kalyan stated, 'The accidental death of Pallapu Suresh, a Dalit youth working as an electrician in Mallam village, Pithapuram constituency, last April, deeply disturbed me. Suresh died from electrocution while performing electrical repair work at someone's home. His death left his family without a breadwinner and in profound grief, while also leading to various conflicts within the village.'
A close examination of the circumstances surrounding Suresh's death highlighted two critical issues: his poverty and the lack of essential safety equipment, which directly contributed to his demise. The second issue was the absence of adequate financial security for his family in the event of an accidental death.
'Determined to prevent such incidents from recurring, we are distributing safety kits to all 325 private electricians in the Pithapuram constituency,' Pawan stated. 'I urge all electricians to diligently use these safety devices when performing electrical work. No one else should die from electrocution at the workplace.'
Beyond immediate safety, arrangements have also been made for financial compensation. 'Even with safety measures, if a life is lost, we have made provisions to provide Rs 2 lakh through the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, implemented by the Union Ministry of Labour and Employment, and another Rs 2 lakh through Chandranna Bima,' he announced.
Commissioner of the Panchayat Raj Department Krishnateja elaborated on recent changes in compensation. 'Three months ago, three labourers died after being hit by an auto. We provided Rs 50,000 compensation per person as per the existing government order,' he said. 'Upon learning of this, Pawan Kalyan revised a ten-year-old government order ensuring affected families now receive Rs 2 lakh in compensation.'
Furthermore, deeming Rs 2 lakh insufficient, Pawan Kalyan initiated a week-long drive to provide insurance to one crore labourers. 'In the future, if any labourer dies accidentally, their family will receive Rs 4 lakh in compensation.'
Kakinada district collector Sagili Shan Mohan stated that the government has decided to revive the welfare board for construction workers.

Niti Aayog : Central incentives only for zero emission vehicles
Taxpayers money will go towards incentivising only clean mobility solutions, with zero tailpipe emissions such as battery electric vehicles, Sudhendu Sinha, Programme Director (Electric Mobility, Transport & Infrastructure) at Niti Aayog told ET, adding hybrid vehicles will not be 'penalised' as they are more fuel efficient and emit lesser emissions than conventional petrol and diesel cars. 'Vehicles which are polluting don't New's to be supported. Less polluting vehicles (like hybrids) are welcome, they should not be penalised. But when it comes to the incentive, using taxpayers money to push forward (clean mobility), that should be going to vehicles which do not create pollution, so that is what electric vehicles are', Sinha said in an interview Thursday. Sinha said the government's targets to attain net zero emission are 'very aspirational'. Programmes are underway to not only encourage customer adoption of electric vehicles but also to build the country as manufacturing hub for clean vehicles. 'As far as dependence (on China) for lithium/critical materials is concerned, we are working on how alternate chemistry can evolve. Today, 16 out of 23 IITs are working on sustainable mobility, alternate chemistries, battery management systems, on the entire stream of telematics/ electronics. Our aspiration is not only to be an EV user, but an EV manufacturing hub', he informed. Sinha said if India wants to become a manufacturing hub for electric vehicles, it has to stay you ahead on the curve of innovation. He said, 'In addition to that, you must have control over supply chain, which is critical. You can't be always dependent on others. For an economy whose growth came in from gasoline, majority of their current new car sales today comes from electric, Sinha said. The Indian government too has been putting in place supportive policies to support the shift to clean vehicles in India. Sinha said, 'As far as GST rationalization is concerned in support of electric vehicles, six to eight times we have been able to reduce it (levies), not only for the vehicle, but also multiple components. Similarly, to sort out the financing issue, the year before last, in the budget, the dense charging infrastructure was brought in the list of harmonized infrastructure.' This has resulted in capital that is being ring-fenced by banks for investments in charging networks. The government has also launched the Rs 25,938 crore Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for auto and parts makers to address costs disabilities in manufacturing locally advanced auto parts, he said. This, along with the Rs 10,900 crore PM e-Drive, will help support customer demand across categories of electric vehicles. Going ahead, he said while certain segments of the automotive industry 'can definitely do without state support, but to think that there should be no support, that is a wrong proposition'. 'Support is needed, but we have to channelize it. Those are the things that would come once we are able to wrap up that entire scheme. We have to analyse how we did, where, how we should go forward, etc', he said.

Himachal govt will soon declare support price for potato: CM
Last Updated: Shimla, Jun 12 (PTI) The support price for potatoes would be declared soon to strengthen the economy of the farmers, Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said, while chairing the state-level Multi-Stakeholder Consultative conference here on Thursday. The state government is constantly striving to strengthen the rural economy, and a potato processing plant would be set up in Una district at a cost of about Rs 20 crore, he said in the conference organised by Himachal Pradesh Revitalizing Rainfed Agriculture Network. The state government was promoting green energy and natural farming in a big way. The minimum support price has been fixed for crops produced from natural farming, and it would be further increased in the coming time, a statement quoted the chief minister as saying. Highlighting the importance of natural farming, he said many new schemes would be implemented in the coming year to boost the rural economy. The chief minister said after the northeastern states, the highest increase in cancer cases had been witnessed in Himachal Pradesh, and efforts were on to find out the root cause and change in food habits could also be a reason for the rise in such cases. He said 80 per cent of the state's population depends on agriculture for livelihood. Agriculture is the backbone of Himachal's economy and contributes about 14 per cent to the state's gross domestic product (GDP). He also expressed concern over the changing pattern of weather, which was adversely affecting the agriculture sector. These challenges could be faced effectively by taking steps like climate-tolerant agriculture, promotion of pulses, extensive animal husbandry, more use of traditional seeds, and laying emphasis on water security and soil conservation. The traditional seeds and crops grown through natural farming were rich in nutrition and required less water. 'We need to reuse such traditional crops and these had to be further improved through research to ensure nutritious food and a clean environment for future generations", he asserted. He also released a book based on the experiences of natural farming on this occasion. He praised the farmers engaged in natural farming and also detailed the efforts being made by the state government in promoting this system of agriculture. L-G gives nod to initiate action against PWD ex-engineer over irregularities in construction of classrooms in Delhi
Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has approved a proposal from the Directorate of Vigilance to start disciplinary proceedings against a former executive engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD) over alleged irregularities and fund mismanagement in the construction of 226 classrooms under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan. According to a statement shared by the L-G house on Thursday, the engineer has been transferred out of Delhi and is currently posted with the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) in Amritsar, Punjab. This decision follows alleged irregularities identified in the implementation of the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, a Centre-sponsored initiative aimed at enhancing educational infrastructure in Delhi, which was allocated Rs 38.37 crore for the construction of 226 classrooms across various schools, said officials. 'The situation escalated when a public interest litigation titled Social Jurist, a Civil Rights Group v/s GNCTD and Ors. was filed in the Delhi High Court on June 11, 2019, seeking a directive for the government to hand over possession of six newly constructed school buildings…,' an official added. After the PIL was filed, officials said, the then Chief Secretary probed the matter, during which significant 'irregularities in construction practices and fund management' were uncovered. A committee was also constituted in this matter last year in March to examine the matter. 'The committee's findings, reported last year in May, revealed several lapses on the part of the PWD, including the diversion of funds intended for the construction of 20 classrooms at Trinagar School to Rani Bagh School and the construction of a multi purpose hall without obtaining the necessary approvals. Furthermore, the PWD failed to promptly address site issues, making decisions that lacked proper authority and oversight,' said officials. 'The misconduct in question dates back to 2019, but the case against another officer is considered time-barred due to his retirement from government service. The DOV's proposal has received endorsement from both the Principal Secretary (Vigilance) and the Chief Secretary,' the official added.
