Teledyne GFD Partners with Industrial Detection Solutions to localise manufacturing in KSA - Middle East Business News and Information
This partnership will enable the local production of high-precision sensors for detecting toxic and combustible gases, helping to protect workers and assets at oil and gas production/drilling facilities, LNG/CNG plants, and refining and petrochemical sites. A grand opening ceremony will officially declare the plant open on June19th, 2025.
Gas detection is an essential safety aspect throughout the oil and gas industry. With so much activity in the Middle East, Teledyne GFD wanted to bring the production of key gas detection solutions closer to their point of use. This strategy also aligns with the IKTVA (In-Kingdom Total Value Add) programme that promotes local manufacturing in KSA.
IKTVA is an initiative to increase economic diversification and create a sustainable ecosystem in KSA's oil and gas industry. The programme aims to increase the use of in-Kingdom suppliers, expand local supply chain capabilities and capacities, and drive industry collaboration through supplier development.
By partnering with Industrial Detection Solutions, Teledyne GFD will help to meet the ambitions of the IKTVA via the local manufacture of popular products like its DM-700 toxic gas sensor, and FP-700 and IR-700 combustible gas sensors.

The DM-700 is a non-intrusive 'smart' sensor that detects and monitors oxygen and toxic gases in the air using electrochemical sensor technology. The intelligent, plug-in, field-replaceable cell automatically recognises gas type and range. Teledyne GFD's FP-700 is also a non-intrusive 'smart' sensor, this time for the detection and monitoring of combustible gases over the range of 0-100% LEL using catalytic bead sensor technology. The IR-700 is a similar solution for combustible hydrocarbon gases. It uses miniature non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) optical sensor technology to detect and monitor gases over the range of 0-100% LEL.
All of these gas detectors support maximum safety with an innovative design that virtually eliminates sensor failure due to water ingress, corrosion, vibration or transient spikes.

Energean's floating regasification unit arrives at Aqaba Port: Petroleum Ministry

The agreement also seeks to diversify gas inputs to the national network, enhancing resilience and the ability to respond swiftly to emergencies or unexpected developments. The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to the continuous development of Egypt's gas infrastructure and to strengthening Arab energy cooperation, with the ultimate aim of bolstering national energy security and meeting the needs of citizens and key economic sectors across the country.

Taarek Refaat Egypt's Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources confirmed on Saturday the arrival of the ENERGOS FORCE floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) at the Port of Aqaba in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The move marks a key step toward connecting the facility to the Arab Gas Pipeline and commencing operations to regasify liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments in line with network demand and operational requirements. The development underscores the deep and ongoing energy cooperation between Egypt and Jordan, reflecting broader regional integration and mutual use of existing infrastructure to maximize benefits on both sides. Investment Decision on Kronos Gas Field Could Be Reached as Early as this Year, Cyprus Energy Minister Says
Yara Sameh Energy Minister George Papanastasiou on Thursday said the next couple of months will see crucial developments regarding the future commercialisation of the Kronos offshore gas field. Papanastasiou added that important talks were held in Nicosia last week between himself and Karim Badawi, Egypt's Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources. The talks were attended by senior officers of energy companies ENI and Total Energies – the consortium that holds the concession on offshore Block 6 where the Kronos reservoir is located. Discovered in 2022, Kronos is estimated to hold over 3 trillion cubic feet of gas in place. The reservoir was subsequently appraised in 2024. A development agreement between ENI and Total Energies, along with the governments of Cyprus and Egypt, outlines plans to process and export the gas through Egypt's existing infrastructure. In February 2025 the governments of Cyprus and Egypt, plus the Block 6 consortium, signed a 'host government' agreement. It sets out Egypt as the 'host government' for Block 6 and the Kronos, Zeus, and Calypso gas fields, which are present under its seabed, meaning that the gas extracted will be sent to the Segas liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in the Egyptian port city of Damietta for liquefaction. Papanastasiou revealed that already important commercial agreements have been 'formulated' between the investors (the two energy companies) and Egypt. The deals cover the entire spectrum of the supply chain, from the export of the natural gas up to its liquefaction at the facilities in Damietta. At the same time, a separate gas sales deal is being drafted between Cyprus and the investors. The minister said that the final draft should be ready by the end of August. 'September will be a month of talks aimed at getting signatures by the end of October,' stated Papanastasiou. Meantime, ENI and Total Energies have submitted to the Cypriot government a draft development and production plan for the Kronos gas play. The plan outlines both the technical aspects as well as the commercial aspect. The minister revealed that the two companies intend to take a final investment decision for Kronos sometime within the year. He described that timeline as 'difficult but feasible'. If all goes smoothly, he added, 2027 could be the year for the first flow of natural gas from Kronos.
