BEML transitions to all-electric fleet in Bengaluru
Bengaluru: BEML Ltd, a public sector undertaking, on Monday flagged off a fleet of 10 electric cars at the company's corporate headquarters here, taking a significant step in its journey towards becoming fully sustainable.
Strengthening its pledge toward a greener future, this marks a decisive shift as the company phases out all diesel-powered vehicles from its operational fleet, it said.
The company in a statement said that the launch, held just ahead of World Environment Day, highlights BEML's proactive alignment with both national and global climate action goals, as well as its support for the Government of India's 'Go Green' mission.
'This initiative is a reaffirmation of BEML's deep-rooted commitment to environmental stewardship. Transitioning to electric vehicles is not just about reducing emissions—it's about leading the way in sustainable practices and setting new benchmarks for the industry,' Shantanu Roy, Chairman and Managing Director of BEML said, in a statement.
According to the company, as part of its broader roadmap, BEML has planned to scale this green mobility initiative across its manufacturing complexes and regional offices nationwide.
It also aims to invest in essential EV-supportive infrastructure, including energy-efficient transport solutions, to create a scalable and sustainable ecosystem across its four plants in the coming time, it added.

India-Denmark exchange views on bilateral maritime collaboration under Green Strategic Partnership
Copenhagen [Denmark], June 6 (ANI): Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, met the Danish Minister of Industry, Business and Financial Affairs Morten Bodskov during his visit to Copenhagen, Denmark on June 5-6, 2025. The two ministers exchanged views on bilateral maritime collaboration under the auspices of the Green Strategic Partnership and the MoU on Maritime Affairs. According to a joint statement, the two ministers reaffirmed the Green Strategic Partnership, as mutually agreed upon by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Denmark counterpart Mette Frederiksen. The Ministers highlighted the importance of the bilateral Memorandum of Understanding on maritime affairs signed in 2024, which encompasses the establishment of Centre of Excellence in Green Shipping. The Ministers emphasised that the newly established Centre is intended to improve the quality and efficiency of maritime activities while promoting the green transition of the maritime sector in India. The ministers highlighted alignment with targets set out in the Government of India's Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, including India's ambitions to become a green shipping hub for the international maritime sector. Recalling that the establishment of green corridors has further been defined as a priority by the Government of India, the ministers agreed that the Indo-Danish CoE will conduct a pre-feasibility study to contribute to their development. The study will serve as a preliminary assessment of the main components of possible green corridors in India and outline the most promising ones. They agreed that the study will be carried out by the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Centre for Zero Carbon Shipping, applying its methodological blue print, and in close collaboration with the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, other relevant Indian ministries. V.O.C. port becomes India's first plastic-free port
V.O. Chidambaranar Port has been declared India's first 'plastic-free' port, according to a press release from V.O.C port authority. At the World Environment Day event held on Thursday on the port premises in Thoothukudi, Susanta Kumar Purohit, Chairperson, VOC Port Authority, and B. Kasiviswanathan, Chairperson, Cochin Port Authority, had jointly unveiled a plaque officially declaring V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority as a 'plastic-free zone'. The release said reaffirming its commitment to environmental sustainability, the port is upgrading its administration office to meet green certification standards. A 1 MW solar power project is in execution and a 2 MW battery storage system is under active consideration. Additionally, the tendering process has commenced for a 6 MW wind power project and green methanol bunkering facilities. Plans are also underway to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NTPC for the development of an additional 1 MW of green hydrogen plant. Collaborative studies on green corridors are progressing with the European Union and the ports of Singapore and Rotterdam, in coordination with Deendayal Port Authority. Speaking at the event, Mr. Kasiviswanathan emphasised the urgent need to adopt sustainability initiatives to restore and protect the environment. He commended the port for achieving India's first plastic-free port. He also distributed the prizes to the winners of various competitions organised by the port, as part of the 'World Environment Week'. In his address, the Chairperson of the V.O.C Port Authority highlighted the various green initiatives carried out by the port reflecting the port's strong commitment to protecting the environment and building a cleaner, greener future. The event was attended by Rajesh Soundararajan, Deputy Chairperson, P. Kavin Maharaj, Chief Vigilance Officer, and other senior port officials.

Hettich working toward achieving complete carbon neutrality by 2030
On World Environment Day 2025, Hettich India reiterated its focus on sustainable operations and environmentally responsible innovation, as part of its ongoing alignment with global green manufacturing practices. The company confirmed that all its manufacturing units in India continue to operate as zero-discharge facilities, ensuring that no industrial waste is released into the environment. A significant portion of Hettich India's energy needs is also being met through renewable sources such as solar and wind, as part of its wider efforts to reduce reliance on fossil fuels . Carbon neutrality target Andre Eckholt, Managing Partner, Hettich Group , stated, 'For us, sustainability is a core value and not just another obligation. We believe that progress must never come at the cost of the planet. Our continued investments in green energy and clean manufacturing reflect our commitment to a better tomorrow.' Globally, Hettich aims to achieve carbon neutrality across all its sites by 2030. This plan includes the adoption of CO₂-reduced steel, already implemented in its German operations, which the company says can cut emissions by up to 70 per cent. Additionally, Hettich is increasing its focus on automation and digitisation to improve process efficiency and reduce waste. To expand its environmental impact across the supply chain, Hettich India is also working with partners and suppliers who follow sustainable practices. The company stated that it remains committed to delivering functional products while contributing to broader environmental goals.
