Tesco hikes the price of its popular meal deal by £3

Metro30-04-2025

For many Brits, supermarket meal deals are a quick, classic food option – whether enjoyed at lunchtime or as part of a set evening dinner with microwavable options.
With a main, a snack or a side, a drink and perhaps even a pudding at a set price, there's a clear opportunity for a bargain on bougier items that normally would cost us a few extra pennies. Smoothie or sushi, anyone?
But now, Tesco has confirmed that it's increasing the price of its beloved Finest dine-in meal deal. The meal for two offer – which comes with a main, a side, a dessert and a drink – is now £15, up from £12 previously.
The change comes amid a refreshed menu for Tesco shoppers, which has seen nine new products introduced to the range – bringing the total of mix and match options up to 20.
This spring, customers will be able to enjoy fresh dishes including a Pork Crackling Joint with Cider Jus, Lemon & Stem Ginger Posset, and even a Manchego Stuffed Chicken.
When it comes to sides, there's still plenty of potato-shaped goodness – with the Triple Cook Chips (complete with Cornish sea salt) and the Golden-Baked Potato Dauphinoise. And for a spot of veg, there's the option of a Green Vegetable Medley.
Thinking ahead to pudding? Shoppers have the option of choosing between the likes of a Mixed Berry Trifle, a Sticky Toffee Pudding, a Sicilian Lemon and Stem Ginger Posset, and the Salted Caramel Profiteroles. Frankly, our mouths are watering.
'We have worked to improve the quality across our Finest Dine In range, investing in the ingredients and recipes, and introducing an updated menu,' a spokesperson from Tesco told Metro.
'Clubcard members will pay just £15 for two people, offering a saving of up to £22.50, for a main, side, dessert and drink, including a range of beers or Finest wines, or non-alcoholic alternatives.
'Finest Dine In offers great value and is a delicious, convenient alternative to dining out at a fraction of the price.'
In addition to your choice of sandwich, pasta pot or salad for a main as part of the Tesco meal deal, you can now swap your packet of crisps for a side of what some believe to be the 'food of the gods'.
Yes, that's right, we're talking about Pot Noodles.
The instant noodle snack food has been added to the supermarket's offering, but there's a bit of a catch – it's only available in selected stores across the UK and it's only one specific flavour you can get.
Customers can add the Chicken & Mushroom Pot Noodle (90g) as a snack in their meal deal, which costs £4 or £3.60 for Clubcard holders.
This side option will be offered in 50 Tesco stores nationwide.
However, not all shoppers are happy about the change.
Posting in the r/Tesco Subreddit, @Leather-Assistant902 said the previous £12 deal was 'okay.' They argued that for £15, 'you can just get a nice-ish takeaway' instead.
@Splodge89 took issue with the portion sizes, writing that 'the idea that this deal is enough for two people is hilarious.' In their opinion, the 'mains almost always need something else to go with.'
'I'm not saying I'd eat one all to myself, but the two portions for a main and a side is pathetic,' they added, while @Exciting-Trick4575 said they 'used to buy these meal deals as a treat,' but 'won't be anymore.'
But in @PositiveTurnover8923's view, 'the chicken and leek pie with chunky chips is definitely enough for two.'
This isn't the only change Tesco has made of late.
Earlier this month, the supermarket confirmed that a single Glazed Original Krispy Kreme now technically counts as a 'snack' item as part of both the regular and premium meal deals. More Trending
And it's a bargain too, as outside of the meal deal offer, just one of the doughnuts costs £1.99. Work smarter, not harder, as they say.
It's safe to say that Tesco meal deal fans were ecstatic. Posting over on TikTok, @ellieannahawkes asked 'why did no one tell me a plain Krispy Kreme was included in Tesco meal deals please?'
Over in the comments section, @thedeardiaries wrote 'this is game changing omg,' while @diaryofcait joked 'live love Krispy Kreme.'

@moraixe laughed 'let's not make other people aware of this,' as @rytis_xo labelled the new move 'insane,' adding 'thank u Tesco.'

Shoppers have been praising the Ninja pizza oven as a "game-changer". One shopper said: "I absolutely love this pizza oven, it's a game changer, I will never be ordering takeout again, pizza in less than three minutes and tastes amazing. Easy to use and clean." Another shopper added: "Amazing product, we previously had a brick-built pizza oven and moved address, so wanted to give the Ninja Outdoor Pizza oven a try. We were not disappointed, we made homemade dough which was fine. I ordered some sourdough from a company, also pre-packed from a supermarket, and all worked well. "The sourdough pizza took just three minutes on the highest setting to cook, and the shop-bought took 4.5 minutes at 290 degrees. We also used the proving and bake options too. We have the air fryer so have not used the oven for that. Would highly recommend this product" The Ninja Artisan Pizza Oven can cook three pizzas in just 10 minutes (Image: Ninja ) However, shoppers should be warned about the size and cleaning the Ninja oven as some buyers claim it was difficult. One buyer said: "Cleaning the pizza stone isn't the easiest but that is the nature of not being able to use water to clean the stone and we have instead bought a brush online to clean the charred parts off." Article continues below They added: "The Ninja Artisan is not a small device, so the fact that it is weather-friendly and can be kept in the shed with the cover (bought separately) is fantastic. It means it doesn't take up kitchen cupboard space and, unlike other BBQs, doesn't just go rusty after a bit of time outside". Another happy consumer said: "The pizza oven is amazing! So easy to use and it cooks pizzas perfectly. It cooked 9' sourdough pizzas in 40 seconds and 9' normal dough bases in 2 minutes. We had a party and it was fun to use."

Tesco introduces huge Clubcard perk in car parks but there's a catch

Supermarket giant Tesco has just dropped a generous perk for customers using the store's car parks, but not every single shopper will be able to benefit from the incentive Tesco has unveiled a lucrative perk for customers using their car parks - but not every driver will see the benefit. The supermarket giant has confirmed that starting last week (June 4), shoppers will be able to collect Tesco Clubcard points when they charge their electric car on their store's grounds. Customers topping up their EV will earn one Clubcard point for every pound spent on charging at Pod's Vauxhall-branded charges at Tesco stores up and down the nation. Drivers can also get a whopping 2,500 Clubcard points if they sign up for Pod's home charging subscription, Pod Drive, as a new customer. This is worth £25 when converted into Clubcard Vouchers to spend at Tesco, or can be doubled to £50 if used with the supermarket's Clubcard Reward Partners - including easyJet holidays, Disney+, and English Heritage. To access the deal, Tesco shoppers will need to be registered for its Clubcard scheme, which is free to join. You can sign up for the initiative online here - and will get exclusive Clubcard Prices online and in-store straight away. To earn the 2,500-point boost - customers will have to start their order via Pod's website. As part of the sign-up process, you will be asked to sign into your Tesco Clubcard account to link your order. "You can now park at your local Tesco and top-up your electric vehicle while you shop, in the knowledge that you are collecting Clubcard points towards a future Tesco shop or to exchange with one of our Reward Partners." Pod's CEO Melanie Lane also welcomes the incentive, stating the company was 'thrilled' to deepen its partnership with the supermarket. "We know thatthe more that EVs blend with peoples' everyday routines, the more it makes sense to go electric, and with our unique partnership we're able to align drivers' charging experiences across both home and public charging points," she added. *Tesco's offer is only valid at Pod Point chargers at Tesco stores - and points will be awarded within seven days of your bulled charging session. Fury as ‘disgusting' Cadbury cuts size of popular multipack from six bars to four but keeps price the SAME

The change has been blasted by shoppers, including many parents who bought them as kids' snacks BITTER SWEET Fury as 'disgusting' Cadbury cuts size of popular multipack from six bars to four but keeps price the SAME CHOC-lovers are fuming after Cadbury reduced the size of its Dairy Milk Little Bars multipacks by a third. New packs of four are being sold for £1.40, even though packs of six cost the same last month. Advertisement 1 Choc-lovers are fuming after Cadbury reduced the size of its Dairy Milk Little Bars multipacks by a third The change has been blasted by shoppers, including many parents who bought them as kids' snacks. One fumed on the Tesco website: 'Advertised as new, only thing new is you get 4 instead of 6!! For the same price. Disgusting!' A second said: 'Stop reducing how much is in the packet and charging the same price!!!' A third added: 'Was a six pack now a four pack for the same price, a third less chocolate, unacceptable shrinkflation.' Advertisement It comes after Cadbury reduced packs of Freddos from five to four and Cadbury Dairy Milk multipacks were cut from nine bars to seven. Cadbury said: 'We understand the economic pressures that consumers continue to face and any changes to our product sizes is a last resort for our business. 'However, as a food producer, we are continuing to experience significantly higher input costs across our supply chain, with ingredients such as cocoa and dairy, which are widely used in our products, costing far more than they have done previously. 'Meanwhile, other costs like energy and transport, also remain high. This means that our products continue to be much more expensive to make and while we have absorbed these costs where possible, we still face considerable challenges Advertisement 'As a result of this difficult environment, we have had to make the decision to slightly reduce the weight of our Cadbury Dairy Milk Little Bars multipacks so that we can continue to provide consumers with the brands they love, without compromising on the great taste and quality they expect.' Dan Coatsworth, analyst at the investment firm AJ Bell, explained: 'The cost of producing chocolate has gone up a lot in recent years, driving up prices and prompting firms to make products smaller. We've outdone ourselves with this one' say Cadbury Ireland as they reveal new limited edition bar 'coming soon 'When production costs rocket, companies only have a limited range of options. 'They can pass on the costs to the customer through higher prices, which is difficult with a product like chocolate where people are often looking for a cheap treat. Advertisement 'Another option is to reduce the size of the product in order to reduce the manufacturing cost for each bar of chocolate. Or they can try a combination of the two. 'As a last resort, companies may have to tolerate lower profit margins, especially if consumers refuse to tolerate price rises and stop buying.' The British Retail Consortium said global cocoa prices are around three times higher than in 2022, after being badly affected by poor harvests in parts of Africa.
