The companies will collaborate on supply chain and sales channel development ahead of Innovent's launch of mazdutide, as well as engage in a consumer education campaign.
'Innovent and JD Health will join hands to popularise knowledge about weight loss and blood sugar control via on and offline channels,' Innovent said in a statement posted on its WeChat account on Tuesday.
Late last month, eastern Jiangsu province-based Innovent said it received Chinese regulatory approval for mazdutide, which it claimed was the world's first to mimic the natural hormones of GLP-1 and glucagon, with the latter playing a crucial role in regulating blood glucose levels.
GLP-1 drugs mimic the actions of the naturally produced hormone glucagon-like peptide-1, which regulates blood sugar levels, suppresses appetite and slows digestion.

'Innovent will make its breakthrough dual-target, liver fat-reducing weight loss therapy available to obese patients as soon as possible, to contribute towards the weight management and healthy China initiatives,' said chairman Michael Yu Dechao, without giving a time frame.

Asian investors trim US assets amid dollar weakness, but full pullback proves difficult
Asian investors have trimmed their incremental allocations to US equities as the dollar weakened, but reducing their overall exposure to US assets remains difficult, according to a Morgan Stanley report on Tuesday. The proportion of US assets in Asia's securities portfolios fell by 0.7 percentage points, to 40.8 per cent in the first quarter from a peak of 41.5 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2024, the highest level since late 2017, the report said. The pullback was pronounced in China, where the share of US assets in portfolio investments declined by about 16 percentage points to 28 per cent in March this year from December 2017. The New York Stock Exchange in lower Manhattan, New York City, on July 11, 2025. via AFP However, the report said reducing Asia's overall stockpile of US assets was not easy given the current account surpluses of the region's economies, which were at a record high of US$1.1 trillion in the first quarter, the report said. Economies with surplus capital often invest in US financial markets, which are the world's largest and most liquid, according to the Cato Institute, a US-based think tank. 'Asia's gross international investment position [in US stocks] will continue to grow,' Morgan Stanley analysts wrote. 'The lack of large and liquid alternatives means that it would be difficult for Asia to reduce its holdings of US assets.' While China's holdings of US assets dropped to US$1.3 trillion this year from their 2013 peak of US$1.8 trillion, the rest of Asia continued to increase its exposure to US assets to a new high of US$7.2 trillion in the first quarter.

China's economy shows resilience amid trade war but headwinds lie ahead
China's economic growth in the second quarter proved robust while exports in June were better than expected. Gross domestic product grew by 5.2 per cent between April and June despite a trade war with the United States. That has helped fuel cautious optimism the economy can achieve the full-year growth target of 5 per cent. Mainland exporters moved quickly to ship goods ahead of the end of a 90-day tariff truce in August, helping the monthly trade figure to a 5.8 per cent jump year on year. In the coming Politburo meeting, policymakers have to decide whether to extend measures to boost stimulus and consumption, or conserve the ammunition and keep policy options open for the rest of the year. Beijing is focusing on what it calls a 'unified national market' . This means discouraging self-defeating cutthroat competition among low-tech, low-margin companies and counterproductive contests between provinces that often penalise each other's cross-boundary goods and services. While the latest data show the economy's resilience, all eyes will be on the August 12 truce deadline. Will the two sides finalise a deal, as US President Donald Trump claimed they would after high-profile meetings in Geneva and London? Or will he change his mind and make new demands? Washington is in no mood to help Beijing stabilise its economy. But it desperately needs China's supply of rare earths. Trump is also eager for a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping soon. Beijing has been wise in approving exports of critical minerals to the US on a case-by-case basis. Unless there is a viable trade bargain next month, this is unlikely to change.

Chinese toymaker Pop Mart says first-half revenue to rise by 200% from a year earlier
Chinese toymaker Pop Mart is gearing up for another period of blockbuster growth, following the runaway success of its Labubu toy in international markets since last year, saying it expects first-half revenue and profit to surge from a year earlier. Advertisement In a filing to the Hong Kong stock exchange on Tuesday, the Beijing-based company said it expected revenue for the first half of 2025 to increase by more than 200 per cent from a year earlier, while profit would rise by at least 350 per cent. In April, the company said its first-quarter revenue rose by 170 per cent from a year earlier, driven by a nearly 480 per cent surge in overseas business and close to 100 per cent growth at home. The company attributed its first-half growth to 'the increased global recognition of the Pop Mart brand and its [intellectual properties], and diversified product categories', noting that revenue from all regional markets rose 'rapidly and continuously'. It added that its growing presence in overseas markets, where the brand has a more premium positioning, helped improve its revenue structure and overall gross profit. The company said it also benefited from a substantial increase in profit from economies of scale, cost optimisations and tighter expense controls. Advertisement
