INDOT: Construction to begin on I-65 in southeast Indy. Project will take years
A massive series of construction projects will begin later this spring on I-65 in southeast Indianapolis, the Indiana Department of Transportation announced Tuesday.
The I-65 Safety and Efficiency Project will affect about 5 miles of highway spanning from the I-465 interchange to north of Fletcher Avenue. Improvements include replacing bridges, repaving and adding a travel lane to reduce traffic congestion.

The state says the project will help traffic flow and improve safety. Construction, which is expected to last about two years, will be completed by Milestone Contractors.
Two lanes of travel in each direction will be open "most of the time" during construction, according to INDOT.
Both southbound and northbound I-65 will be closed for three weekends each throughout 2025 and 2026.
The Morris/Prospect bridge will close for 30 days, and the Hanna Avenue bridge, which is being fully replaced, could close for up to a year. Ramps, which will be closed intermittently throughout the project, could be out of commission for as many as 12 weeks at a time.

The road's existing shoulder will be converted into a fourth travel lane in both directions, though more pavement will need to be laid in the southern third of the work area.
Bridges at Naomi Street, Pleasant Run, and Morris Street will be widened to accommodate the new travel lane. The bridge at Hanna Avenue will be replaced entirely.
The northbound bridge over Morris/Prospect will be outfitted with a new superstructure, deck and beams. Each side of the bridge will get ta new 10-foot sidewalk, too.
Structural improvements to these three bridges as well as to the other 18 bridges along the corridor will extend their lifespan, planners said.
Beginning in spring 2026, pavement will be patched and relaid from south of the I-65/I-70 overpass to north of Fletcher Avenue. The storm sewers in the area are being replaced.
Broken sidewalk panels along the interstate will be patched, too, and underpass lighting for pedestrians crossing under bridges will be updated.
The abandoned railroad bridge north of Fletcher Avenue and south of Bates Street will be removed in spring 2026.
Construction is expected to last two years, according to INDOT.

KYTC plans to begin Glover Cary Bridge repair project next week
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) announced Thursday that major repairs to the historic Glover Cary Bridge — also known as the Owensboro 'Blue Bridge' — will begin with preliminary work next week. When major repair get underway in early July, the bridge is expected to be closed to all traffic for about 90 days. 'Repairs to safeguard the iconic Glover Cary Bridge in downtown Owensboro are scheduled this summer to maintain the vital traffic service it provides across the Ohio River between northwest Kentucky and southern Indiana,' a Thursday press release from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said. 'This is the largest repair operation on the Glover Cary Bridge since 2011,' said KYTC district two public information officer Matt Hughes. 'It has closed for more minor repairs since 2011, but this is the biggest project in recent years.' Hughes said that following an inspection of the bridge last fall, engineers estimated needing to close the bridge for around six months. 'But the engineers have worked to streamline the repairs in order to shorten the closure length, to reduce traffic impacts to a minimum,' he said. Last fall's inspection also called for repairs to the roadway on the Indiana side of the bridge, Hughes said. 'During that inspection back in the fall, they found some issues over on the north river in Indiana that were going to require the road to be shut down to make some repairs,' Hughes said. 'We were able to work with the Indiana Department of Transportation to try to get that built into this one project because we're going to have the bridge shut down anyway. So we though to go ahead and get that fixed as well so there won't be more inconvenience for travelers.' According to Thursday's press release, work on the bridge will begin with single-lane closures starting on Monday, June 9 and run through Wednesday, June 11. Flaggers will be directing traffic in an alternating one-lane method. American Contracting & Services, hired by the KYTC, plans to fully close the bridge, which connects Kentucky 2262 with Indiana SR 161, following the Independence Day holiday weekend, in order for the full scope of work to begin. During that time, the aging bridge deck will be replaced, concrete repairs will be made and bridge joints will be repaired. 'While the entire project is slated to last through November, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is limiting the actual bridge closure to 90 days or less. That schedule would have the bridge reopened around the first of October,' stated the press release. Hughes said that construction crews are planning to work through the night in order to keep the repair timeline to 90 days or less. KYTC said that closing only one lane at a time on the bridge wasn't possible to be able to complete all of the repairs. 'Crews will be fully replacing one 750-foot span of concrete-filled bridge decking while making repairs to a second span of the same length. Because the decking spans the entire width of the bridge surface, closing one lane at a time is impossible,' the press release detailed. Closing the bridge for these repairs, Hughes said, 'will allow for long-term concrete maintenance to be completed, rather than short-term repairs, helping to keep the bridge safe and open for many years to come'. Work that can be completed without fully closing the bridge is planned to happen outside of the 90-day window. KYTC estimates that around 7,200 vehicles cross the Blue Bridge, which opened to public traffic in 1940, daily. During the time of the closure, travelers needing to traverse the Ohio River into Southern Indiana should detour to the U.S. 231 William H. Natcher Bridge. BYD Shares Plunge After Deep Discounts Spark EV Price War Fears
May 27 - BYD (BYDDF) shares tumbled 8.5% on Monday and slid about 4% on Tuesday in Hong Kong, sparking worries of a fresh price war in China's EV market. The largest Chinese electric-vehicle maker cut prices on 22 models, mainly its Ocean and Dynasty series, by 10% to 30% through June 30. The deepest reduction was 34% on the Seal 07 DM-i, equal to 53,000 yuan (6,460). Rival automakers Geely (GELYF), Great Wall Motor (GWLLF) and Xpeng (NYSE:XPEV) also saw shares fall between 4% and 9% as investors fretted that steeper discounts could erode sector profit margins amid slowing demand. BYD's dealer inventory jumped by about 150,000 units in the first four months of 2025, roughly half a month's retail sales, fueling the decision to slash prices, industry data show. Citi analysts reckon the cuts could drive a weekly sales surge of 30% to 40%, helping clear excess stock. Despite the sell-off, BYD's growth remains strong. April NEV deliveries rose 21% year-on-year to 380,089 units, while overseas sales hit a new high for a fifth straight month. In the first quarter, the company sold nearly one million vehicles, logged net income of 9.15 billion yuan and a 20% gross margin, outpacing Tesla's $409 million profit and 16% margin. BYD is also rolling out DeepSeek's R1 AI model for advanced driver-assistance and expanding production in Hungary to boost European volumes. This article first appeared on GuruFocus.
