Where do first NBA win totals project Nets to finish next season?
The post Where do first NBA win totals project Nets to finish next season? appeared first on ClutchPoints.
Sportsbooks released their NBA win total projections for the 2025-26 season, and they expect the Brooklyn Nets to finish at the bottom of the league. The Nets' over/under win total opened at 20.5, per FanDuel Sportsbook. That is tied with the Washington Wizards for the second-lowest in the league and ahead of only the Utah Jazz (17.5).

The Nets' over/under win total entering last season reached as low as 18.5. The rebuilding squad opened the year 9-10, surpassing 18 wins with over two months left in the regular season and finishing 26-56.
However, Brooklyn's roster will look substantially different in 2025-26.

Key veterans, such as Dennis Schroder, Cam Johnson and Dorian Finney-Smith, fueled Brooklyn's early success in 2024-25. The Nets were 9-11 before trading Schroder. They were 26-30 in games Johnson played (38-win pace) and 9-17 when Finney-Smith played (28-win pace).

That veteran trio was traded and replaced with Michael Porter Jr. and Terance Mann this offseason. While Porter Jr. and Mann have had successful NBA careers, neither is a high-level ball-handler, which will force the Nets to lean on younger players for shot creation.
Cam Thomas and Nic Claxton's health will play a significant role in Brooklyn's ability to compete, provided both are on the roster to start the season. Thomas, the team's leading scorer, played 25 games last season while suffering three left hamstring injuries. Meanwhile, Claxton battled a back ailment throughout the year, which he said still bothered him after the season ended.
Day'Ron Sharpe and Noah Clowney will provide backcourt depth behind Claxton.
Beyond their proven commodities, the Nets have an NBA-record five rookie first-round picks entering the fold. With Schroder and D'Angelo Russell departing, Egor Demin and Nolan Traore should see significant minutes as lead ball-handlers. While both boast intriguing potential, rookie point guards often struggle with the transition to the speed and physicality of the NBA.

Drake Powell, Ben Saraf, and Danny Wolf should all see playing time in reserve roles.
Ultimately, a 20.5-win projection feels fair given Brooklyn's rebuilding situation. It represents a slight adjustment following the sportsbook's miscalculation last season, while taking into account the team's veteran departures and influx of inexperienced rookies.

Mikautadze gets Lyon off to winning start in Ligue 1 at Lens
Georges Mikautadze scored the only goal as Lyon got their Ligue 1 campaign off to a winning start at Lens on Saturday. Mikautadze struck at the end of the first half to give the seven-time Ligue 1 champions their first win since American businesswoman Michele Kang took over as president in June to save the club from relegation after compatriot John Textor resigned amid financial irregularities. Lyon turned the page on this era by winning against their former coach Pierre Sage, who took over at Lens after Will Still's departure. Financially constrained for summer signings, Lyon built its success with what it already had with strikers Malick Fofana and Mikautadze and midfield stalwart Corentin Tolisso combining well. Fofana ran rings around the Lens defence, breaking through at the end of the first half when he provided an ideal cross to Mikautadze. Despite 18 shots on goal, Lens were unable to deliver with Wesley Said and Deiver Machado both missing numerous chances. New recruit Florian Thauvin came off the bench for Lens after 57 minutes to rapturous applause from the home fans but despite bringing creativity and freshness, the World Cup winner could not make the difference. bur/ea/pb

Akshay Bhatia gets back into top 30 in stunning fashion — with hole-out eagle and ace
Askhay Bhatia found his way back on the right side of the Tour Championship cutline — if only temporarily — during Saturday's third round of the BMW Championship, and he did so in stunning fashion. Bhatia started the week at 29th in the FedEx Cup playoff standings, meaning he was eligible for the season finale at East Lake, but after an opening round of 75, it appeared he might be losing his grasp on a spot. He fought back with a solid 69 on Friday, but then kick-started things on Saturday with a hole-out eagle on the par-4 7th. After a birdie on No. 8 and then bogeys on Nos. 12 and 15, Bhatia rolled in a birdie on the 16th hole, and then made some real magic on the par-3 17th. This shot on the 227-yard hole marked Bhatia's first hole-in-one in PGA competition, and it came at an important time, pushing the California native into the top 30. The 23-year-old Bhatia hit a rough patch this season and hadn't recorded a top-10 finish since March when he came up a shot short of a playoff at the Players Championship. But an opening-round 62 at the FedEx St. Jude led to a T-6 last week in the first playoff event and the two-time PGA Tour winner played himself into the final group on Sunday at the 3M Open with a third-round 63 even though he faltered on the final day, shooting 75 to tumble to T-25.
