As the investigation into the murder of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi during his honeymoon in Meghalaya continues, police have uncovered a new lead involving a man saved in Sonam Raghuvanshi's phone as 'Sanjay Verma.'
Sources say Sonam was in frequent contact with this number, which appears on Truecaller as 'Sanjay Verma.' In the three weeks leading up to Raja's death, she made over 200 calls to the number.
The high volume and duration of these calls raised red flags. Investigators began looking into who was really behind the number, and now, they believe they've cracked the mystery.

So, who exactly is Sanjay Verma? Why was Sonam in such regular contact with him? Here's what we know so far.
Who is Sanjay Verma?
As the investigation progressed, police uncovered that Sonam Raghuvanshi had been in constant touch with a contact saved on her phone as 'Sanjay Verma' in the weeks leading up to her marriage with Raja Raghuvanshi.
Surprisingly, the communication didn't stop after the wedding. According to East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem, the calls continued well into the early days of her married life, he told PTI.
Call records accessed during the probe showed that between March 1 and April 8, Sonam and the man listed as 'Sanjay' had spoken 234 times over 39 days. Many of these conversations stretched between 30 to 60 minutes, indicating a close and ongoing connection.
Once the pattern was established, police began searching for Verma in Indore. However, the number in question had since been switched off, making it difficult to trace.
Officers then turned to Sonam's family for leads, but even her brother Govind claimed he had never heard of anyone by that name.
Speaking to reporters, Govind said, 'I don't know anything about Sanjay Verma. I had come to show you all the places where Raj used to work. Nothing has been seized from here. I have also learned today that Sanjay's name is also coming up in this.'

The case took another turn when police noticed that the number listed as Sanjay Verma was last seen active on WhatsApp on June 8—the very day Sonam surrendered in Ghazipur, and all other accused were taken into custody.
Eventually, police discovered that 'Sanjay Verma' was a fake name. The man behind the number was actually Raj Kushwaha, Sonam's lover.

What have investigations revealed so far
The investigation into the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi has gained pace. On Tuesday, police revisited the crime scene with the accused to recreate the sequence of events.
During the crime scene reconstruction, all five accused were brought to multiple locations in Sohra and Nongriat villages to retrace their steps.
Meanwhile, the team also questioned Raja's brothers at his home in Indore. Reports suggest the Shillong SIT team may question Sonam again, this time at her home.

Back in Shillong, the local team continues to question the accused. All the details gathered are being cross-verified with inputs from Indore.
Further, the SIT in Indore would determine whether a financial motive was also at play, beyond the suspected love triangle.
'Our team is in Indore and are questioning a few people to find out if somebody has to gain from Raja's death,' SP Vivek Syiem told PTI.
Raja and Sonam got married on May 11 in Indore. The couple left for their honeymoon on May 20, reaching Meghalaya. But by May 23, they were reported missing near Sohra, about 65 km from Shillong.
His decomposed body was recovered on June 2 from a deep gorge near Wei Sawdong Falls. He was allegedly hacked to death with a traditional machete—known locally as a 'dao".

"Criminals fearless in Bihar": Tejashwi Yadav lambasts Nitish Kumar govt on firing incident outside his residence
Patna (Bihar) [India], June 19 (ANI): RJD leader and former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav on Thursday lashed out at the Nitish Kumar-led state government over the law and order situation in the state after an incident of firing was reported near his residence in Patna. Hitting out at Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Tejashwi Yadav claimed that the people of the state were not safe alleging a 'crimnal disorder' of the law and order situation and 'anarchy' in Bihar. Yadav said that the criminals in Bihar have become 'fearless' and demanded CM Nitish Kumar's resignation. Speaking to mediapersons here, the RJD leader said, 'There is a complete rule of criminals in place now. There is no government. Anarchy has set in in the administration and government. Shooting is taking place outside my residence in a VVIP area, it had never happened before.' Taking a jab at the Nitish Kumar government, Yadav said, 'Nobody is safe in Bihar. There is a criminal disorder of the law and order in Bihar. Nitish ji forms laws and sets free those with AK-47. He supports criminals.' 'Criminals have become fearless in Bihar, and I am a former Chief Minister, Leader of Opposition in the state assembly, there are residences of the Development Commissioner, many ministers near my residence. Still, such incidents are happening. This is very serious... If the most secure area of the state is not safe and they cannot catch the criminals then Bihar CM Nitish Kumar should resign,' said Yadav. Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Bihar tomorrow on June 20, Tejashwi Yadav hit out at the centre and claimed that the morale of the criminals was high in the 'demonic rule' of the NDA. 'In the demonic rule of NDA, the morale of the criminals protected by the government is so high that in the high security zone, at a short distance from the Governor's residence Raj Bhawan, Chief Minister's residence, Leader of the Opposition's residence, Judge's residence and the airport, the dreaded criminals are roaming around openly firing. Beware! What if someone calls it Jungle Raj? Anyway, the Prime Minister is coming to Bihar tomorrow, so the Godi media has to maintain a positive image,' posted Yadav on X. Earlier in the day, Tejashwi Yadav claimed that the Prime Minister is coming to Bihar to do 'politics of hatred' and should be ashamed to come to the state due to unfulfilled promises. 'If PM Modi listens to his 200 speeches that he has given so far in Bihar, he will be ashamed to come to Bihar. He made hundreds of promises, he will be ashamed of what to say to the people of Bihar... He is not coming to Bihar to provide employment, reduce inflation, eliminate poverty, but just to do the politics of Hindu-Muslim, the politics of hatred,' Yadav told ANI earlier today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Bihar tomorrow (June 20), where he is scheduled to address a public gathering in the Siwan district of the state. Earlier, as Deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha urged people to attend the event in large numbers, he said that PM Modi will highlight the resolution for 'Viksit Bihar' and give a message for 'freedom from nepotism.' Regarding nepotism, the RJD leader claimed that while the BJP criticises others of family-politics, half of the ministers in the state cabinet are dynasts, while also repeating his claim of NDA being a 'National Daamaad Aayog. ''They keep abusing us about family politics, but their alliance is filled with dynastic politicians, and the same thing is true even in their party (BJP). In Bihar, over 50 per cent of the ministers are dynasts... NDA in Bihar means 'National Daamaad Aayog'. PM Modi has fitted everyone's son-in-law in the 'Aayog',' the RJD leader said. (ANI)

SC panel flags 'unnatural conduct' in Justice Varma inquiry; report sparks demand for judicial accountability
New Delhi [India], June 19 (ANI): A 64-page report submitted by a high-powered Judicial Inquiry Committee has cast a spotlight on Justice Yashwant Varma, formerly of the Delhi High Court and now transferred to the Allahabad High Court. The committee, constituted by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna on March 22, concluded that there is credible and serious evidence of misconduct following the discovery of burnt currency at Varma's official residence. The report prepared by a panel comprising Chief Justices Sheel Nagu, GS Sandhawalia, and Justice Anu Sivaraman delivered searing observations about Justice Varma's conduct, suggesting he failed to uphold 'Universally Accepted Values of Judicial Life.' At the heart of the controversy lies the recovery of partially incinerated cash in the early hours of March 15 from a store room in 30 Tughlak Crescent, an official residence under Varma's control. The panel, citing witness statements and electronic surveillance, concluded that 'the burnt currency was removed covertly with active awareness or complicity,' prompting questions about why no formal complaint or disclosure was made by the judge. Further fanning suspicions was the manner of Justice Varma's transfer. Despite having time to seek clarification or raise objections, he promptly accepted the March 20 repatriation order to Allahabad High Court 'without demur,' raising eyebrows within the judicial fraternity. The report remarks that such readiness, absent consultations or queries, is 'uncharacteristic of a judge with a clean record.' The inquiry, supported by testimonies from 55 witnesses, including Justice Varma himself, points to a troubling pattern of omissions and questionable choices. While not declaring outright guilt, the committee recommends initiation of proceedings for Varma's removal, marking a rare and serious development in India's judicial history. (ANI)
