‘Harry Potter' HBO Series Casts Harry, Ron and Hermione
HBO's 'Harry Potter' TV series has officially found its Harry, Ron and Hermione.
Dominic McLaughlin will play the role of Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton is Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout is Ron Weasley. More than 30,000 actors auditioned for the lead roles since HBO launched an open casting call last fall. Filming is expected to begin this summer.

'After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron. The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen. We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It's been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there,' said showrunner Francesca Gardiner and executive producer and director Mark Mylod in a statement.
The 'Harry Potter' roles launched Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint to worldwide fame in the early 2000s, and the HBO series could very well do the same for McLaughlin, Stanton and Stout, who are largely newcomers. McLaughlin acted in 'Grow,' an upcoming comedy on Sky starring Nick Frost and Golda Rosheuvel, while Stanton starred as Matilda in 'Matilda: The Musical' on the West End from 2023-2024. 'Harry Potter' will be Stout's first major role.
They join fellow cast members John Lithgow ('Conclave,' 'The Crown') as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer ('Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning,' 'The White Queen') as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu ('I May Destroy You,' 'Gangs of London') as Severus Snape, Nick Frost ('Shaun of the Dead,' 'Hot Fuzz') as Rubeus Hagrid, Luke Thallon (Tom Stoppard's 'Leopoldstadt,' Rupert Goold's 'Patriots') as Quirinus Quirrell and Paul Whitehouse ('The Fast Show,' 'Harry & Paul') as Argus Filch.
The 'Harry Potter' series is written and executive produced by Gardiner, who also serves as showrunner. Mylod will executive produce and direct multiple episodes of the series for HBO in association with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television. The series is executive produced by author J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films.
Rowling, who wrote the original 'Harry Potter' books has come under fire in recent years for her controversial views on the transgender community. When asked if her views on the trans community made him worried for the show, HBO's chief content officer Casey Bloys said recently on 'The Town' podcast: 'We already have a show on HBO from her called 'C.B. Strike' that we do with the BBC. It's pretty clear that those are her personal, political views. She's entitled to them. 'Harry Potter' is not secretly being infused with anything. And if you want to debate her, you can go on Twitter.'
Stanton is represented by Gavin Mills and Julie Gordon at Olivia Bell, and Public Eye.

'House of the Dragon' season 3 will go experimental with a concept episode
Westeros fans are already excited about the promise of "House of the Dragon" season 3, the next installment of the "Game of Thrones" prequel series. Alas, we still don't have a release date (we'll keep you posted the second we hear!), but news of filming kicking off in England and new actors joining the cast should be enough to hold George R. R. Martin stans over for awhile. Still, we're chomping at the bit until Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D'Arcy), Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) and the rest of our favorite "House of the Dragon" characters are back on screen. That's especially so now that showrunner Ryan Condal has teased a special high-concept episode to come in the new season. While speaking to Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the showrunner revealed that one episode of the third season will be a more "conceptual" and "character-driven" installment than "House of the Dragon" fans have seen from the HBO fantasy series so far. 'We got to have a little fun this season, and there's a conceptual episode that I'm really excited about that [Sara Hess] wrote, and that's all I'm gonna say about it," Condal shared during the podcast appearance. "It isn't in the traditional vernacular of what we have laid out. It's very character-driven, I think it's really great and I'm really excited to see it rendered.' Exactly which character's journey will be on the receiving end of this more experimental narrative style in the new episodes is so far unknown. Condal played coy when it came to naming names, as well as how that treatment will play out visually onscreen. But it will be interesting getting a more introspective and emotional look into a character's mindset, especially as the turmoil of a major war rages around them. Outside of the more focused, interior look into the personalities of "House of the Dragon," the third season is set to go bigger and better with its storylines. In a previous interview with Gold Derby, Condal said: "Season 2 is huge. Season 3 is huger, in many ways. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. "There are, by my quick count on stage, four major events from the book that we get to adapt and realize in three dimensions in this season. That's really exciting on a scope-and-scale perspective, and I think it's the thing the show does really well."
