Odisha: Higher Education Department constitutes committee to investigate FM college self molestation case
This comes after the suicide attempt by a girl student of the college in Balasore.
According to the order, the committee, in its inquiry, will ascertain the circumstances which led to self-immolation, the involvement of the professor in the case and the role of the college administration, principal and Internal Complaint Committee in dealing with any prior complaints.
The committee will also identify lapses of any individual or authority and identify any other incidental matter that emerges during the inquiry.
'The committee is authorised to seek assistance from any person as deemed necessary for conducting the inquiry and submit the report to the Higher Education Department,' the order said.
Earlier, the Balasore Police arrested the accused in the self-immolation attempt case.
According to Balasore SP Raj Prasad, the police have established prima facie evidence against the teacher who was involved in the self-immolation case of the female student.
The victim had lodged a complaint with the Internal Compliance Committee on June 30.
'In the case of a female student who attempted self-immolation, prima facie evidence has been established against a teacher. He has been arrested and forwarded to the court. This student had lodged a complaint with the Internal Compliance Committee on 30th June. We are enquiring about the findings of their report. Whoever is found guilty, accountability will be fixed for them,' he said.
The Higher Education Department of the Odisha government on Saturday suspended the Assistant Professor and Principal of FM (Auto) College, following the self-immolation attempt of the college student.
In a letter issued by the Higher Education Department of the Odisha Government that Dilip Kumar Ghose failed to perform his duties as the Principal of the college due to which he was suspended under sub-rule (2) of rule 12 of the Odisha Civil Services (Classification, Control & Appeal) Rules, 1962, with immediate effect.
'The government has contemplated that the matter has not been handled properly by Dillip Kumar Ghose. He has failed to perform his duties in the capacity of Principal of the college. He is hereby placed under suspension under sub-rule (2) of rule 12 of the Odisha Civil Services (Classification, Control & Appeal) Rules, 1962, with immediate effect', the letter said. (ANI)

But in Bihar, these names have become central to an escalating political flashpoint ahead of polls later this year. These are the people killed in Bihar over the last 10 days, triggering opposition questions on law and order on Nitish Kumar's watch, and "jungle raj" or lawlessness - a term used to brand the tenure of Lalu Yadav (from 1990-2005). Bihar has become the "crime capital of India", declared Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in a post on X on Monday. Mr Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, cited media reports pointing to 31 murders in 11 days and the alleged "contract killing industry" in the state. "Bihar has become the 'crime capital of India' -- fear in every alley, unease in every home! Unemployed youth are being turned into killers by 'GuNDA raj'," said Mr Gandhi. Nitish Kumar's Deputy Vijay Kumar Sinha today said his government is taking strict action to prevent criminal activities. "We have said before that the government is taking action on every incident, and strict measures are being taken to prevent criminal activities," the Deputy Chief Minister told news agency ANI. "A state with such a large population, having over 60 per cent population under the age of 30 and unemployed, is bound to be vulnerable to law and order problems," Additional Director General of Police (Headquarters) Kundan Krishnan said. The SCRB data further shows Patna as the leading district in Arms Act cases, averaging 321.7 cases annually, followed by Begusarai (167.7), Muzaffarpur (158.3), Nalanda (117.9), and Vaishali (117.8). A correlation between arms Act cases and violent crimes shows Patna again topping the list, averaging 82 violent incidents annually, followed by Motihari (49.53), Saran (44.08), Gaya (43.50), Muzaffarpur (39.93), and Vaishali (37.90). Kanwariyas hit by school bus; they beat driver, vandalize vehicle in UP's Meerut
Three kanwariyas were injured when a school bus hit them in Meerut on Monday as their fellow pilgrims angry by the incident vandalised the vehicle, broke its window panes and beat up the driver, police said. Cantt Circle Officer (CO) Santosh Kumar reached the spot with police force and took the injured to the hospital.(Shivam Kanojia/ ANI) The area witnessed tension when the incident happened around 11 am on Delhi Road near Begumpul police outpost but police personnel present at the spot managed to calm tempers. No student was present in the bus when the kanwariyas vandalised it. According to police, Ghaziabad residents Sandeep, Bobby and Abhishek were returning with water from Haridwar when a school bus passed them near Cantt Hospital, with the side of the bus making contact with them. A drunk driver rammed his speeding car into a group of Kanwariyas on Tuesday night in Modinagar town, leaving three injured, following which the enraged pilgrims damaged his vehicle and assaulted him. A group of kanwariyas allegedly vandalised a dhaba here on Sunday night, alleging that the owners who were Muslims had not displayed their identities at their establishment. A similar incident happened earlier in Muzaffarnagar when a group of kanwariyas vandalised a dhaba after they were allegedly served onion in their food.
