Rose of Tralee 2025: What does the winner get and what must she do during her year's reign?
Rose of Tralee
will bag a list of lavish prizes, but the cherry on the cake must be the €25,000 travel bursary.
The winning Rose has a year to make the most of the fund and can decide how to spend it, although with stipulations.
Organisers say the 2025 winner will use the money to represent the Rose of Tralee International Festival and help connect the global Irish community throughout the year.
The ultimate itinerary is at the discretion of the winner – for example 2024 Rose Keely O'Grady travelled to Chicago for St Patrick's Day, to Wellington for the New Zealand Irish Dance Championships and to Poland to volunteer at the Happy Kids Foundation orphanage.

The 2023 winner, New York Rose Róisín Wiley, used her fund to attend the ploughing championship.
Boasting perhaps the most intensive year of travel,
Maria Walsh
, the 2014 Rose of Tralee who is now an MEP, worked five days a week in Philadelphia and flew back to Ireland every weekend from August 2014 to January 2015.
She also met former US president Barack Obama at the White House for St Patrick's Day in 2015.

Current judge Dr Clare Kambamettu travelled to India twice during her tenure as reigning Rose of Tralee in 2010.
This year the winning Rose will also drive away from the competition in a new Kia Niro plug-in hybrid SUV worth more than €40,000. The only catch is she will have to give it back at the end of the 12 months.
Then there is an all-expenses-paid week-long trip around the Kingdom, with stops including Killarney and Dingle for her and a friend. The costs are covered by Kerry County Council, although it is unclear if she will have to perform Rose duties as part of this trip.
The 2025 winner will also receive complimentary accommodation for her and a friend at the Meadowlands Hotel, Tralee, every time she returns to the town during the year of her reign. The four-star hotel is the home to the Roses for the duration of the festival.
Another official partner of the festival, the Brush 'N' Blush hair and beauty group, will style the victor's hair free for the upcoming year any time she is in Tralee.
The prize for escort of the year is a much more humble affair at €1,000 in cash, not even covering the €2,000 application fee.

Carl Mullan on being a Rose of Tralee escort: 'I swear to god it was the hardest work I have ever done'
]
However, for 2025 escort of the year, Andy Rodgers, the experience has been completely worthwhile.
'It's about making connections and meeting new people. It has just been amazing,' the Dubliner said.
'Partly my reason for applying was to show Sophia, my 10-year-old daughter, that you can take a leap our of your comfort zone.'
Reflecting on the role of an escort, Mr Rodgers said: 'It's definitely hard work. It's the long days that are the hardest part of it. Looking after the Roses is the easiest part.'
Of course, he said, the experiences of the escorts were not as important as those of the Roses.
'I have Ceiline [O'Meara] the UAE Rose and she was excellent,' he said. 'She made my job so easy. She was taking it all in the whole week. It's about her making memories, nothing to do with me, but once she's happy that's the main thing.'

Noel Gallagher left ‘shaky' after Oasis after-party in Dublin
A hard day's night of heavy drinking in O'Donoghue's pub on Baggot Street following Oasis 's second and final night of triumph in Croke Park left Noel Gallagher 'feeling a bit shaky' as he headed off to Dublin Airport for his flight home early the following morning. Some scant details of the after-party have been shared widely on social media since the weekend. Speaking on TalkSport, the elder Gallagher brother admitted the night out in one of Dublin's most beloved and traditional musical pubs had left him the worse for wear. 'It went on. It went on,' he said. 'It eventually finished, [and] we had to get a flight home, but it went on for a while.' He said there had been' a lot of singing, a lot of drinking and a lot of talking nonsense ... It was quite a night.' READ MORE As the Croke Park curtain came down on the band's comeback, Noel said he was 'feeling on top of the world [and] couldn't be any better'. [ Did you see Oasis at Croke Park? Share your experience Opens in new window ] He told the phone-in football show that he had been 'completely blown away' by the fans' reception to the band getting back together. 'It's difficult to put into words, actually. Every night is the crowd's first night, so every night's got that kind of same energy to it. It's been truly amazing. I'm not usually short for words but I can't really articulate it at the minute to be honest.' He said that before the tour's opening night in Cardiff earlier this summer he had 'grossly underestimated what I was getting into', and five minutes after appearing on stage in front of tens of thousands of adoring fans, he could feel his legs 'turning to jelly'. He soldiered on and fans would have been oblivious to his reaction to the acclaim, but Gallagher half wished he could go back to the dressingroom to get himself together 'and start again'. With the world tour about to start, he said he was most looking forward to playing the River Plate football stadium in Argentina's capital, Buenos Aires, in November, which will be the band's second-last show of the tour. He said it was 'without a doubt in the top five places for us to play in the world' and a 'special, special, special place for us'. He expressed pride and a degree of wonder at how his younger brother Liam – a person he has not always seen eye to eye with – was conducting himself on the tour so far, although he added that expressing emotion in a huggy fashion was not really the Gallagher way. 'I'm the songwriter, you know what I mean? I'm not really a singer but Liam is smashing it. I am proud of him. 'Having been the frontman in a band for 16 years, I know how difficult it is and seeing him I know I couldn't do the stadium thing like he does. It is not in my nature. But I've got to say I kind of look at him and I think, Good for you. He's been amazing.'

2025 Rose of Tralee winner hails from dairy farm in Laois
An apprentice electrician from a dairy farming background in Co. Laois has been crowned the 2025 Rose of Tralee. Laois Rose Katelyn Cummins, from Ballyouskill on the Laois/Kilkenny border, became the 65th winner of the competition, and the first winner of the competition from Co. Laois, during the second evening of this year's competition last night (Tuesday, August 19). The 20-year-old is currently in the third phase of an electrical apprenticeship, and hopes to do an engineering degree in the future. Katelyn grew up on a dairy farm, where she said her "love for the outdoors has blossomed from". She is currently the chairperson of North Kilkenny Macra. Outside of her trade and farming background, she has also seen success with her local camogie club, and also takes part in set dancing and jiving. In a post on Facebook, North Kilkenny Macra said: "Huge congrats to our amazing chairperson for winning the Rose of Tralee. Katelyn's grace, charm, and unreal jiving skills truly shone on stage. "We're beyond proud of her representing us with such poise and talent. We can't wait to see [her] back in Ballyouskill and what a night we will have. What a remarkable achievement," North Kilkenny Macra said. Katelyn Cummins at work on the family farm As a 'Rose' with a farming background, Agriland spoke to Katelyn earlier this month about growing up on a dairy farm. She told Agriland: "Our dairy farm in Castlemarket, near Ballyouskill on the border of Kilkenny and Laois, has been in the family for four generations. My dad took it over from his father and has since progressed with it. "Being in the outdoors from a young age and learning to work definitely shaped me into who I am today," she added. Katelyn said she always helped out a lot on the farm when she was young, feeding calves, milking cows, covering silage pits and dosing cattle. "Being the oldest child in my family, I never had much choice but to help out, but I will say it will always be a memory I can share with my dad," she said. She decided to pursue a career as an electrician after completing a week of work experience with a local electrician while in Transition Year. "I loved every second. We worked on various different sites, such as a cheese factory; a swimming pool; a warehouse, and a normal house. I was so intrigued by the different schematics needed in each different setting," she said. "Growing up on the farm is a huge part of why I am training to be an electrician today. The support and enthusiasm I got from local neighbours and friends was extremely positive. It definitely helped me to keep pursuing my goals," Katelyn told Agriland.
