University develops automated charging system for cars

Budapest Times27-02-2025
GANZ KK Kft. and the University of Dunaújváros have developed an automated, robotic and remote-controlled system for charging electric cars.
The total costs amount to 1.1 billion forints. The project was subsidised with almost 800 million forints from the National Innovation Fund and represents a significant innovation on an international level.
The charging system is able to recognise properly parked vehicles, select the charging socket and connect or disconnect them from the vehicle using a robotic arm, without the need for human intervention. As a single charging container can supply up to four vehicles simultaneously, the system can also help companies to optimise charging times according to the specifics of their energy system.
Not only the complete finished product, but also the individual modules are to be sold separately, which would shorten the amortisation period of the investment.
All of KK is 100% Hungarian-owned. The low-voltage electrical switchgear manufactured by the company is used as control and protection components in power generation and distribution, mechanical engineering, the construction and chemical industries, agriculture and private households.
In 2023, GANZ KK Kft. generated net sales of HUF 3 billion and a minimal profit after tax.

Over HUF 70 billion in food vouchers to support elderly

Róbert Zsigó, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Ministry of Culture and Innovation, announced in a video posted on Facebook on Tuesday that elderly citizens will receive food vouchers worth more than HUF 70 billion in total. He said the printing of the vouchers is already underway, and distribution will begin shortly. The vouchers—issued in denominations of HUF 1,000, 2,000, 3,000, and 5,000—can be redeemed for cold food items not only in major supermarket chains but also in small rural shops, markets, and from local producers. According to the state secretary, the vouchers will be placed in personalized envelopes and distributed starting on September 1, with each eligible recipient receiving HUF 30,000 worth. 'In addition to reinstating the 13th-month pension, reducing utility costs, and cutting markups, we are also supporting the elderly with food vouchers,' Zsigó said. He emphasized that this initiative is part of the government's broader effort to ease everyday financial pressures on the elderly and ensure their basic needs are met.

Visit Hungary CEO: Renewed Budapest–Philadelphia flight a boost for Hungarian tourism

The restart of a direct flight between Budapest and Philadelphia after a six-year hiatus is excellent news for both Hungarian tourism and the business sector, said Olivér Csendes, CEO of Visit Hungary Zrt., in an interview with TV2's Mokka programme. Csendes outlined medium- and long-term goals for the service, which will initially operate seasonally from May to October in its first year. He expressed hope that strong passenger numbers would persuade American Airlines to make the route year-round, and that other carriers might follow by offering direct flights from additional US cities to Budapest. Nearly 400,000 American tourists visit Hungary annually, and the CEO noted that the new route should make travel easier, more predictable, and potentially less expensive. He said US visitors are particularly drawn to Hungary's architectural heritage, cultural attractions, wine regions, and Danube river cruises. The daily service will depart Budapest at 11:25 and arrive in Philadelphia at 15:00 local time, returning in the evening to reach Liszt Ferenc International Airport at 09:25 the following day. Csendes highlighted that Philadelphia is one of American Airlines' largest hubs, offering 100 direct connections across the United States — effectively opening up all of North America to travellers from Hungary.

Culture and Innovation Ministry: Over 38,000 young people to receive career start allowance

More than 38,000 young people will receive a career start allowance by the end of August, with the payment going to all students completing vocational training this year, the Ministry of Culture and Innovation (KIM) announced on Wednesday. The one-time grant is designed to help graduates enter the labour market. The ministry noted that with the 2020 reform of the vocational education system, the scholarship framework was also overhauled. During sectoral basic education, all students are entitled to a general monthly scholarship. Those in full-time education can later earn up to HUF 59,000 per month based on academic performance, which may be replaced by wages upon joining dual training — potentially reaching HUF 169,000 per month. Veronika Varga-Bajusz, State Secretary for Higher Education, Vocational and Adult Training, and Youth, said the career start allowance rewards strong performance and supports entry into employment. Depending on exam results, students may receive up to HUF 300,000 in a single payment after passing their professional exams, which they can use to launch their careers or purchase tools. This year's disbursement totals HUF 9.8 billion. The allowance can be supplemented by a freely usable HUF 4 million workers' loan available to 17–25-year-olds to support their life start.
