'It's been a journey.' Central Catholic athlete thanks supporters after 3rd straight state title
Bloomington Central Catholic's Isaiah Whitaker set a new IHSA mark in the pole vault, leaping 17 feet, 6.5 inches.
But it was also the Saint Junior's third consecutive state championship in the 1A pole vault.
Whitaker is a young man who's thankful for those who have pushed him along the way.
It means a lot. Just knowing that I can come here and consistently compete and get the job done, get points for my team and help my team out, it's just great. I'd like to thank my coaches and everyone out there supporting me. It's been a journey and I'd like to thank them all

Whitaker's win helped push Central Catholic to a top ten team finish in the 1A boys standings.

Ben Johnson pleased with "big-time throws" from Caleb Williams
Bears head coach Ben Johnson was happy with his quarterback after Sunday night's preseason game against the Bills. Williams completed 6 of 10 passes for 107 yards with a touchdown, no turnovers and no sacks,, and Johnson said after the game that Williams looked the way the Bears wanted him to look in live game action. "Caleb made a couple big-time throws, in my opinion, to keep that drive going, and some explosive plays there, so it was good — it was good to see," Johnson said. Johnson said Williams has had some bad days in training camp but that last week's practices and Sunday night's game were as good as he's been. "I thought the three days of practice we had this week and this game were the most he's stacked up good days in a row," Johnson said. "The challenge is going to be to keep pushing in that direction." The Bears beat the Bills 38-0 and Johnson said that was all about the players' execution. "It really had nothing to do with scheme. It was all about our guys and how they wanted to play the game," Johnson said. Now Johnson will hope that promising performance can carry over to the regular season.

Bears Witnessing Shocking Development At Left Tackle Spot
The Bears knew they had to improve the offensive line this offseason after Caleb Williams got sacked a league-high 68 times in 2024. As a result, the team made several moves, including letting Teven Jenkins leave in free agency while adding Joe Thuney, Drew Dalman, and Jonah Jackson to start at the interior spots. At right tackle, former first-round pick Darnell Wright remains entrenched, but the left tackle spot is up for grabs. Braxton Jones started at that spot in 2024 and delivered mixed results. Jones earned a solid Pro Football Focus grade, but was penalized seven times and allowed five sacks. As a result, the team is holding an open competition at the spot, and several guys are in the mix. 2025 second-round pick Ozzy Trapilo has seen some first-team snaps, and many were expected 2024 third-rounder Kiran Amegadjie to factor in as well, but that hasn't really happened due to Amegadjie having some injury issues this summer. Instead, a surprising player has recently been getting some starter snaps at left tackle- Theo Benedet. The Canadian offensive lineman has been a star of camp, and rotated with the starters on Wednesday with Jones. Trapilo, meanwhile, was at right tackle with the second-string offense. Offensive line coach Dan Roushar offered a glowing review of Benedet's work. 'There's a lot of things to really like about Theo. He's had probably as much improvement as any player we have in the group,' said Roushar. 'With that, there's a lot of things for him to improve on and he knows that and we've gotta work on it. He is working his tail off. He has put himself in a position to go compete for a job somewhere in this group.' Jones should still be viewed as the favorite to start due to how raw Benedet is. However, Benedet is now the favorite to land the backup left tackle spot, while Trapilo should be the backup right tackle. As a result, Amegadjie could find himself on the chopping block soon unless he quickly gets healthy and regains favor. Bears offensive coordinator defends Caleb Williams amid recent criticism
Caleb Williams is entering a pivotal second season with the Chicago Bears. The 2024 No.1 overall pick had an underwhelming rookie campaign, but is in a better situation this year with Ben Johnson at head coach. With Williams under a lot of pressure heading into 2025, fans and media are watching his every move. For instance, the USC product received some criticism from multiple national media members for not playing in Chicago's preseason opener versus the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. 'My take is everybody but Tom Brady played this weekend and Caleb Williams didn't,' FOX Sports' Colin Cowherd said of Williams not playing in the preseason. 'He's not quite there. We're asking him to do stuff under center, and it was strategic in not playing him. ' Williams has also caught some heat due to a viral video of him struggling in a drill at practice, which caused him to get frustrated with himself. Though Williams has a lot of doubters and adversity to face this year, his offensive coordinator still has confidence in him. First-year Bears offensive coordinator Declan Doyle defended his quarterback during a recent interview and praised him for his work ethic. 'He [Williams] works at. He works at it really hard,' Doyle said on the NFL Spotlight With Ari Meirov. 'It's important to him, and I've seen him progress from spring to right now. He's going to continue to progress as he continues to stress himself and grow.' 'He's very attentive in media roomings. He wants to get it right. He wants to be a great quarterback.' It's great to hear Doyle defending Williams and instilling a vote of confidence in his young quarterback. Doyle served as the tight ends coach of the Denver Broncos in 2023 and 2024, so he was around quarterback Bo Nix during his spectacular rookie season in 2024. If Williams can continue and progress, he'll take a step in the right direction in 2025. The 23-year-old has all the talent and tools necessary to be a franchise quarterback, and just needs to block out the noise.
