Young Scots to represent Great Britain at top European fitness event in the Netherlands
Brodie McKenzie and Anna Jamieson are preparing to do Ayrshire and Scotland proud this weekend.
Two young Scots are to represent Great Britain at a top fitness event on the continent this weekend.
Ayrshire's Brodie McKenzie, 15, and Anna Jamieson, 11, are the only athletes from north of the border heading to the European Functional Fitness Championships in Holland.
Both train out of eeVo Training in Prestwick and will compete against more than 300 athletes from 26 European nations in one of the sport's most competitive events.
Functional Fitness is the structured, sport-governed version of CrossFit – combining strength, endurance, power, skill, and gymnastics.
Events are judged to international standards and provide a clear competitive pathway to European and World Championships.
The girls qualified for the GB squad after finishing in the top three at the British Functional Fitness Trials in Sheffield earlier this year.
The gym's Liam Walker told Ayrshire Live: 'Anna currently trains in eeVo's Kids Programme and will soon transition into the Teens pathway.
'Brodie has been a part of the eeVo Teens Programme since starting secondary school and continues to develop as one of the gym's most consistent young athletes.
'Both girls are proudly following in the footsteps of two of their coaches at eeVo – Kirstin Walker and Alexa Ferguson – who have represented Team GB at the Functional Fitness World Championships for the past two years.
'This is a major moment for both athletes and a proud milestone for the Ayrshire community.'

Content: Liechtenstein v Scotland (17:00) Liam McLeodBBC Sport Scotland commentator Not very. There are just five nations ranked below Liechtenstein in the world rankings, including the US and British Virgin Islands and San Marino. And even the San Marinese have beaten Liechtenstein twice in the past year. They have only won once in their last 48 matches - a 1-0 success over Hong Kong in a friendly last October - and have a squad mainly made up of home-based part-time players who perform in the lower reaches of the Swiss leagues. In the Euro 2012 qualifiers, manager Craig Levein was made to sweat as a Stephen McManus header in the sixth minute of stoppage time at Hampden spared the Scots one of their most embarrassing results as they laboured to a 2-1 victory. It was not exactly a routine win 13 months later in the return in Vaduz, with Craig Mackail-Smith's solitary Scotland goal settling it. This one has shades of the friendly with Gibraltar 12 months ago, which was another stodgy affair and it may be similar this time round at the end of a long season. Fans are looking for some encouragement ahead of the World Cup qualifying campaign in the autumn, with Scotland up against Denmark, Greece and Belarus. "We need to win our next game," the Scotland midfielder said. "We need to go and put on a performance, a good performance and a winning performance. "That's the only thing that breeds confidence, winning games, so we need to get back to that. "There shouldn't be any panic. We've got a really strong squad, good players, good quality, loads of experience in the team, so there should be no panic. "But we do need to get back to winning ways and get back to performing at the levels we've set ourselves." Content: Liechtenstein v Scotland (17:00) Thomas DuncanBBC Sport Scotland in Vaduz The Rheinpark Stadium is a belter by the way. Not so much for the ground itself, but the backdrop. Nestled between the Alps and the river Rhine, it's a cracking setting for a game. Meanwhile, it's like a travelling Tartan Army member has snuck into the PA room, as it's all Scottish tunes. We've already had Then I Met You by the Proclaimers, and a bit of Niteworks, and the customary Chelsea Dagger. Update: Date: 16:25 BST Title: The stats behind Doohan's season Content: Liechtenstein v Scotland (17:00) Ross Doohan offers Scotland more experience, having played over 180 first-team games in comparison to Cieran Slicker's tally of just seven, but what else does he bring? When confirming his Aberdeen departure last month, the Pittodrie club said Doohan "never let anyone down" during his time deputising in the absence of Dimitar Mitov last term. An injury-time penalty save from Jorge Grant was his highlight, ensuring the Dons earned a goalless draw with Hearts back in January amid a woeful run of form. That game was one of fifteen Doohan played in last season's Scottish Premiership. Across those matches he conceded 27 league goals, an average of 1.86 per game. The former Celtic keeper's save percentage of 56% was the joint second worst in the division. Nevertheless, Steve Clarke will be relieved he has the option of a more experienced pair of hands to call on for a game he badly needs a positive result in.

Man Utd ‘make first Viktor Gyokeres approach as Ruben Amorim looks to beat Arsenal to huge £60m transfer'
MANCHESTER UNITED have made an initial approach for Viktor Gyokeres, according to reports. The striker scored 66 goals for Ruben Amorim when the pair worked together at Sporting. 2 2 In total, he boasts a staggering record of 97 goals in 102 appearances for the Portuguese giants. Gyokeres, 27, has an £84million release clause in his contract at the Estadio Jose Alvalade. However, Sky Sports News report United contacted Sporting to enquire about the Swedish international. But as revealed by SunSport, it is understood Gyokeres had a gentlemen's agreement with Sporting that he can leave for around £58-60m. And Amorim is desperate to be reunited with the striker - with his current No9s Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee struggling for goals. United cannot offer any European football next season - let alone Champions League football. But Amorim will hope his personal connection can entice Gyokeres, who is also wanted by Arsenal. Amorim has already completed his £62.5m transfer from Wolves. And the Red Devils also remain keen on landing Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford. However, that deal has hit complications with Tottenham set to appoint Thomas Frank as their new manager. FA Cup winners Crystal Palace face anxious wait to discover Europa League fate
Crystal Palace face an anxious wait to discover if they can compete in the Europa League next season, with a decision on their fate not expected until late June, the PA news agency understands. Palace held a meeting with UEFA officials last Tuesday to plead their case to be allowed to play in Europe for the first time. Advertisement Oliver Glasner's team clinched a Europa League spot after they stunned Manchester City to win the FA Cup at Wembley last month – the first major trophy in the club's history. 😏 — Crystal Palace F.C. (@CPFC) May 19, 2025 However, talk of a European adventure has proved slightly premature, with Palace required to meet with UEFA's club financial control body (CFCB) to show they do not fall foul of its multi-club ownership rules. John Textor holds a 43 per cent stake in Palace through his company Eagle Football, while he is also the owner of French club Lyon, who qualified for the Europa League with a sixth-placed Ligue 1 finish. After Tuesday's meeting, the CFCB is not expected to make a decision until the end of June, PA understands. Advertisement No individual is allowed to have a significant say in the running of two clubs competing in the same UEFA competition and the CFCB would have to make a ruling on any potential breach. PA understands Palace are confident no rules have been breached owing to the fact Textor – through Eagle Football – has only a 25 per cent share of voting rights alongside fellow principal owners Josh Harris, David Blitzer and chairman Steve Parish. Parish is also responsible for the day-to-day running of the club, which has led to past tension with Textor, who had previously tried to sell his shares and take over Everton. View this post on Instagram A post shared by UEFA Europa League (@europaleague) Given Palace believe they have no influence over Lyon and Eagle Football does not have decision-making powers at the Premier League outfit because of the voting structure, the club are hopeful of being able to compete in Europe. Advertisement If Palace fail to convince the CFCB, Lyon would keep their Europa League spot due to a higher league finish. Meanwhile, Brondby, who Blitzer owns, qualified for the Europa Conference League, which prevents the south London club from dropping into that competition. Palace announced their retained list on Monday, with long-serving duo Joel Ward and Jeffrey Schlupp set to officially leave on June 30th. Their departures had been announced last month. A number of academy players are also due to depart, including Eberechi Eze's younger brother Chimaechi Eze. Advertisement
