Why Boston Red Sox' Alex Cora won't manage Monday, ‘a very special day'
BOSTON — Manager Alex Cora will skip the Red Sox' game Monday to attend his daughter Camila Cora's graduation from Boston College.
Bench coach Ramón Vázquez will serve as manager when Boston opens a three-game series against the Mets here at Fenway Park.

Camila is graduating from BC's Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences. She will attend the University of Miami, her dad's alma mater, for graduate school.
'It went really fast,' Alex Cora said before Boston's series finale against the Braves on Sunday. 'And for a girl from divorced parents, her mom (Nilda) did an amazing job staying the course. And while I was playing and coaching and doing my ESPN thing, Nilda was amazing with her. And she's actually a reflection of her. And I appreciate everything that she's done for her and for us.'
Cora said his partner Angelica also shares a strong relationship with Camila.
'Angelica has become like a mentor to her, too," Cora said. 'They're very close. And the fact that we were here while she was going through college, it meant a lot. And it's gonna be a very special day — one that I'm not gonna miss. And I will 100% miss the game for that. And I'll do that any given day because it's gonna be a special day for us.'

As a high schooler, Camila celebrated the Red Sox' 2018 World Series title with her dad on the field at Dodger Stadium. As a student at BC, she celebrated Boston's ALDS Game 4 clinching victory against the Rays here at Fenway.
'We're excited,' Cora said. 'Amazing. It happened fast, man. You put everything in perspective and you go back to the videos from '18, she's a little girl. She was a little girl. And then in '21 when she hopped to the field when we beat Tampa, she was still a little girl. Now she's not a little girl. She's a woman. She has fun with it. She's been a great student and the future is bright for her and we're very proud of her."

Red Sox make 5 roster moves: Alex Bregman to IL with ‘significant' quad strain
BOSTON — The Red Sox have placed third baseman Alex Bregman on the 10-day injured list after an MRI revealed a significant right quad strain. Top shortstop prospect Marcelo Mayer — who also has played third base and second base in the minor leagues — has been selected to the 40-man roster and will take Bregman's spot on the 26-man active roster. 'I'm not going to give you a timetable,' Cora said. 'Hopefully, trusting our medical staff, it's sooner rather than later. But he's going to be out for a while.' Bregman was optimistic when he left Fenway Park after Friday's game. But it began hurting when he tried to fall asleep. 'Last night, couldn't really fall asleep,' he said. Bregman was batting .299 with a .385 on-base percentage, .553 slugging percentage, .938 OPS, 11 home runs, 17 doubles, 35 RBIs, 32 runs, 22 walks and 42 strikeouts in 51 games (226 plate appearances). Former GM floats Red Sox blockbuster trade for ‘true ace' Paul Skenes
The Pittsburgh Pirates have publicly stated that they don't want to trade Paul Skenes. But as one former MLB general manager notes, it might be their wisest course of action. On Wednesday, former GM Jim Bowden laid out five different trade proposals that might motivate the Pirates to trade away their 22-year-old ace. One of those proposals is for the Boston Red Sox. Advertisement A trade for Skenes wouldn't come cheap. Bowden described the young star as 'the most valuable trade asset in decades' due to his unique combination of talent, price and youth. 'He has more than four years of team control remaining and is the hardest type of player to acquire in the major leagues: a true ace, face of the franchise and fan favorite,' Bowden wrote." So what would it take for Boston to pry away one of the brightest talents in baseball? Bowden suggests a package of prospects: OF Roman Anthony, 2B/SS Franklin Arias, 1B/OF Justin Gonzales, RHP Luis Perales. 'To start the package, the Red Sox could offer Anthony, the top position-player prospect in baseball, whom the Pirates could promote to the majors immediately, giving him a chance to win NL Rookie of the Year this season,' Bowden wrote. 'They'd also improve their longer-term future by acquiring a middle infielder in Arias, a power bat in Gonzales and a power arm in Perales. Meanwhile, for Boston, a rotation led by Skenes and Garrett Crochet would be a game-changer.' Advertisement Skenes has already established himself as one of the most exciting talents in baseball. However, Pittsburgh doesn't have much else on the roster. Here's the other thing: The franchise is notoriously cheap. Bowden doubted that the Pirates would be willing or able to shell out the "$350 million to $400 million" it would take to lock up Skenes before he hits free agency. For now, the Pirates are saying all the right things. When asked about the idea of trading Skenes, former Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington said the idea was off the table. Pittsburgh has the second-worst record in the National League and not much optimism to be a contender during the next few years. A Skenes trade could alter the course of the franchise moving forward.
