Jakob Ingebrigtsen tells court he has ‘had no motives for lying' as father's trial closes
The Norwegian Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen has told a court that he finds it 'embarrassing to be a victim of domestic violence' on the final day of the trial of his father and former coach, Gjert.
Earlier this week, prosecutors called for Gjert to be given a jail sentence of two and a half years for hitting and verbally abusing Jakob, the Olympic 1500m champion in Tokyo and 5000m gold medallist in Paris, and his younger sister Ingrid.
However on a dramatic closing day of the six-week trial, Gjert's legal team questioned the allegations against him and called for a complete acquittal. Jakob, 24, then took to the stand and told the court that his testimony from earlier in the trial about being kicked, hit, sworn at and living under a culture of fear was accurate.
'It is embarrassing to be a victim of domestic violence,' he said. 'I know what I have experienced with the defendant since I was a little boy, and I have had no motives for lying. It is embarrassing to be a victim for our family, and it does not fit into the image you have of yourself and your family,' he added. 'We will all carry baggage with us from this trial.'
Earlier on Thursday, Gjert's defence attorney, Heidi Reisvang, had questioned Jakob's claim that he had been kicked in the stomach by his own father after falling off his scooter when he was seven.
'He didn't get any marks or tell anyone about it,' said Reisvang as she summed up the defence's case. 'The first time he talked about it was during police questioning.'
Reisvang said that Jakob had also insisted that there were other people present, but didn't know who they were. 'There is a presumption that no one intervenes when a child falls on a scooter and gets kicked in the stomach' she added.
She did acknowledge, however, that Gjert had called Jakob, 'stupid', 'terrorist', and 'a thug' in heated family discussions.
Meanwhile Jakob's legal counsel, Yvonne Larsen, said the accounts of Jakob and Ingrid, who left the family home aged 15 after claiming that her father had struck her in the face with a wet towel, should be believed.
'Why would Jakob Ingebrigtsen go under questioning and talk about violence, when he is actually a superstar? Because it is true,' she told the court. 'And why would the sister move out and talk about what she has experienced?'
The district court judge Arild Dommersnes told the court that he expects to announce a verdict on 16 June.

Lawrence gave evidence on Friday, June 6, wearing a light grey suit and a blue tie. He said he owns a tailoring company and first met Ms Othen outside a restaurant in Kensington. 'I first met her outside a restaurant on Sloane Street. That would have been at the tail end of 2021,' he said. 'I was going in, she was leaving. We had a brief interchange and that was it.' Mr Wyatt asked Lawrence: 'Were you aware that she had a relationship with Bora Guccuk?' He replied: 'I knew that she had been on and off with someone'. Lawrence explained that on one occasion, he had met Guccuk at the Cirque le Soir nightclub in the West End where Ms Othen had taken him for a friends birthday party. He said that Mr Guccuk had confronted him, and that they had not seen each other after that. Lawrence said that at one point he had seen Ms Othen with a red mark on her face. 'She had a mark on the side of her face. It looked like a footprint. It was a round mark. It was a red round mark,' he said. He claimed that Ms Othen had told him that Mr Guccuk was violent towards her. 'She always described the relationship as violent. She said he used to beat her up, things of that nature,' he told the court. Lawrence said they broke up because he worked full time and she would often be out late. Mr Wyatt asked Lawrence: 'Have you ever bitten anyone?' to which he replied: 'Absolutely not. I'd never even had a fight'. He claimed that after they had broken up in May 2022, he had called the police when she refused to leave his house. 'When she realised I was on the phone to the police that's when she left', said Lawrence. Mr Wyatt said: 'She said that the two of you decided to try for a baby. Were you interested in that idea?' 'Absolutely not', replied Lawrence. Mr Wyatt asked him how he had felt when Ms Othen told him she was pregnant. He replied: 'Awful. The way she is, that is not what you want from a mother'. He admitted that he had confronted her at a restaurant in Cannes in the south of France during the Film Festival. 'That evening I did approach her. I said what are you doing here, why are you drinking if you're pregnant. She was clearly intoxicated at that point.' He insisted that was the only time they had spoken in Cannes. 'I didn't see her at any other time. We didn't cross paths at any time other than that,' he said.

Norwegian teen in court over firearm offences in Huddersfield

Gynaecologist who raped dozens of patients & secretly filmed examinations for almost 20 years is jailed in Norway
A DOCTOR who raped dozens of patients and secretly filmed examinations for almost two decades has been jailed in Norway. A court on Friday sentenced Arne Bye, 55, to 21 years in prison in a case that has shocked the Scandinavian country. 3 3 3 Former GP Bye was found guilty of committing 70 counts of rape and sexual assault during gynecological examinations of his patients between 2004 and 2022. He was also condemned for 80 instances of abuse of his position as a doctor. Close to all of the offences occurred during medical examinations that Bye carried out on his patients whilst working as a physician at his medical practice in the small town of Frosta in central Norway. The court in the city of Trondelag banned Bye from exercising his medical profession indefinitely and demanded he financially compensate his victims. A harrowing total of 94 women testified during the trial, describing how wicked Bye committed multiple acts of non-consensual touching and digital penetration without medical justification. The acts all constitute rape under Norwegian law. Addressing the court on Friday, Judge Espen Haug reportedly said: "The suspect's actions make this case an extremely serious one. The actions are unacceptable. "The defendant's actions happened in a place and setting where people are supposed to feel safe. "His actions have undermined public trust in the health service as well as doctors in general." The 55-year-old defendant stood up and appeared calm as the maximum sentence was handed to him. Bye's defense had argued for lesser sentence, recognising only 20 of the rapes. Bye also filmed the assaults. Cops seized over 6,000 hours of footage during their investigation, including of his gynaecological examinations. Bye was shown to have inserted a "deodorant-like", "bottle-like" and a cylindrical object into the women - with no medical reason for doing so. One woman, speaking to the court last November, said: "I thought I was going to die". Another unnamed woman said she had gone in to her GP's office for a sore throat - before being given one of the invasive examinations. She told how she ended up in her underwear on a bench, saying: "I thought that he is my doctor, so I did as he said." The indictment against Bye says the alleged assaults "happened quickly and unexpectedly" during the examinations. Concerns were raised about him as long ago as 2006 - by another doctor in the gynaecology ward at a local hospital. One of Bye's patients, who was there for further treatment, said her doctor had massaged her genitals during the exam. Bye was able to keep his job until the following year when charges were filed.
