J-K: Security forces conduct joint mock drill at Baltal base camp ahead of upcoming Amarnath Yatra
Ganderbal (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], June 25 (ANI): Security forces conducted a comprehensive joint mock drill at the Baltal base camp on Wednesday in preparation for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra scheduled to start on July 3.
The exercise was conducted under the supervision of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Ganderbal.
The exercise saw coordinated participation from multiple agencies, including the Jammu and Kashmir Police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), 49 Battalion CRPF, the Indian Army, Health Department, and Fire and Emergency Services.
Earlier in the day Kulgam Police, in coordination with CRPF, BSF, Health Department, and Fire & Emergency Services, conducted a large-scale mock drill at key locations along the National Highway, including the Walnut Factory base camp in Qazigund and the FCI camp in Mirbazar, to assess emergency response, coordination, and security preparedness for the safe and smooth conduct of the annual pilgrimage, an official release from the Jammu and Kashmir police said.
In preparation for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY-2025); Kulgam Police, along with CRPF, BSF, other security forces deployed for the yatra, the Health Department and Fire & Emergency Service, conducted a comprehensive mock drill exercise at various locations along NHW including Yatra base camps Walnut factory, Qazigund and FCI Mirbazar to evaluate emergency response mechanisms and readiness in handling critical situations, an official statement said.
The mock drill was conducted in the presence of SSP Kulgam, Sahil Sarangal-IPS
Further, as per the release, the main motive of the mock drill was to prepare forces to respond promptly to any untoward incident, especially of a terror nature, with a quick and safe response and to assess the security response time, coordination and effectiveness to ensure a safe and hassle-free yatra. The exercise also aimed to identify areas for improvement and streamline the response mechanism.
Kulgam Police reaffirms its commitment to ensure the safety and security of our people and our pilgrims coming for SANJY-2025.
The Shri Amarnath Yatra will commence on July 3 this year. The Yatra will culminate on August 9 on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. (ANI)

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who addressed the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Defence Ministers' meeting in China's Qingdao earlier today, refused to sign a document which would have diluted India's stance, sources said. The Defence Minister also firmly put forth India's stance on the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 tourists. Further, Singh strongly condemned countries that use cross-border terrorism as a policy tool and provide shelter to terrorists. 'Some countries use cross-border terrorism as an instrument of policy and provide shelter to terrorists. There should be no place for such double standards. SCO should not hesitate to criticise such nations," Rajnath Singh said. Bringing the Summit's attention to the Pahalgam terror attack, the Defence Minister said, 'On April 22, 2025, the terror group 'The Resistance Front' carried out a dastardly and heinous attack on innocent tourists in Pahalgam in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir." 'Twenty-six innocent civilians, including a Nepali national, were killed," he recalled. 'Victims were shot at after they were profiled based on their religious identity. The Resistance Front, which is a proxy of UN-designated terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the attack," Singh stated. The Defence Minister also mentioned India exercised its 'right to defend" and successfully launched 'Operation Sindoor', aimed at dismantling the cross-border terrorist infrastructure. 'The pattern of the Pahalgam terror attack matches with LeT's previous terror attacks in India. In exercising its right to defend against terrorism and pre-empt as well as deter further cross-border terrorist attacks, India, on May 7, 2025, successfully launched 'Operation Sindoor' to dismantle cross-border terrorist infrastructure," Rajnath Singh said. 'India's zero tolerance for terrorism is manifest today through its actions. This includes our right to defend ourselves against terrorism. We have shown that epicentres of terrorism are no longer safe and we will not hesitate to target them," the Defence Minister said. 'We should also take proactive steps to prevent the spread of radicalisation among our youth," he added. Before his departure to China, Rajnath Singh was briefed by top Army brass on the prevailing security situation in Jammu and Kashmir with a focus on border areas, anti-terrorist operations and the Amarnath Yatra scheduled to start next month. Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command Lt Gen Pratik Sharma and other senior officers, including commanding officers of all units, attended the meeting at Udhampur-based Northern Command headquarters. Jammu and Kashmir Police Special Operation Group (SOG) personnel during a mock drill on coordination and emergency response, ahead of the annual Amarnath Yatra, at a transit camp at Pantha Chowk, on the outskirts of Srinagar on Wednesday. (PTI) The yatra will begin on July 3 and will conclude on August 8. The drills were held at various places on the route of yatra, camps and other places. It was part of an exercise to meet any contingency. Inspector general of police Vidhi Kumar Birdi said that the Amarnath yatra begins from next week and J&K Police and other security agencies had made all the security arrangements. 'Compared to previous years this time in depth and multi-layered security arrangements have been made for security of yatra. We have distributed security of yatra in zones and sectors and today in Kashmir at every place weather camps, roads or interior sections SOP drills were conducted. The aim of these drills is to make constigency response more refined.' J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and chief minister Omar Abdullah had already urged yatris to visit in good numbers as adequate security arrangements are already in place.
