Wisconsin basketball signee shines in FIBA EuroBasket championship

Wisconsin basketball signee Lithuanian forward Aleksas Bieliauskas fared well in the FIBA U20 EuroBasket championship game on Sunday. In more than 30 minutes of action, Bieliauskas tallied a team-high 17 points and 12 rebounds, while shooting 7-of-15 from the floor and 3-of-7 from 3-point range. That production was not enough to lift Lithuania to the championship, however, as Italy triumphed 83-66. The performance caps off an impressive FIBA EuroBasket circuit for the incoming Badger. In seven games, he averaged 12.4 points, 8.3 rebounds and 0.9 blocks per game in 24.4 minutes. Sunday's 17-point, 12-rebound showing was his best performance, leading a 10-point, 11-rebound output in the group stage against Greece, 15-point games against both Romania and Poland, and a 16-point, seven-rebound effort in a quarterfinal win over Slovenia. Bieliauskas committed to the Badgers back in April, reportedly choosing them over significant interest from Kansas. He most recently averaged 12.1 points, 6.8 rebounds and one block per game for Zalgiris II in Lithuania's second-tier minor league. Notably, the forward's addition followed the offseason departure of depth forward Xavier Amos, a move that significantly thinned out Wisconsin's frontcourt rotation. The Badgers have since also added Temple transfer Elijah Gray to further bolster the position. Bieliauskas projects to play a depth role as a freshman with the Badgers in 2025-26. He, sophomore Riccardo Greppi and freshman Will Garlock will contend for minutes behind the team's top frontcourt trio of Nolan Winter, Portland transfer Austin Rapp and Gray. Former Sixers star Jimmy Butler ranked 83rd-best player in NBA history

The Jimmy Butler experience in Philadelphia was a fleeting one for the 76ers and their fans. The Sixes acquired Butler from the Minnesota Timberwolves early in the 2018-19 season and he provided some terrific moments before leaving for the Miami Heat in free agency. Butler averaged 18.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.0 assists in 55 games for the Sixers before leaving for Miami and guiding the Heat to three trips to the Eastern Conference finals and two NBA finals appearances. He is now with the Golden State Warriors after things turned sour in Miami. Bleacher Report ranked the top 100 players in the history of the NBA and Butler came in ranked No. 83 on the list: Though the endings of the Jimmy Butler experience can be grating—just ask the Minnesota Timberwolves and Miami Heat—the beginnings and middle are mostly awesome. At the height of his powers, he is a two-way force who serves as a singular bridge between fringe title contention and borderline irrelevance. This was most evident during his time in Miami, where his ability to flip a postseason switch went mostly unrivaled. He dragged rosters that had no business making deep playoff pushes to three Eastern Conference Finals and two NBA Finals in four years. The best version of Butler is anomalous in its completeness. He has long left much to be desired as a jump-shooter, but he can play the part of your top scorer, foul-drawer, passer and defender. Butler's time with the Sixers was short, but the future Hall of Famer did a lot of good things in Philadelphia and should be remembered fondly by fans. Things just didn't work out between the two sides and that happens at times.
