Fans outraged as entirety of Looney Tunes removed from Max amid release of The Day the Earth Blew Up
Warner Bros. has removed Looney Tunes from the Max streaming platform, continuing a pattern of content removals that started in October 2024. Along with Looney Tunes, other popular shows like Ben 10, Chowder, Steven Universe, and Regular Show were pulled without warning. Additionally, several Scooby-Doo films and two Tom & Jerry titles were also removed.
Currently, the only Looney Tunes content still available on Max includes spinoffs such as Tiny Toons Looniversity, Baby Looney Tunes, and Bugs Bunny Builders, while the original shorts have disappeared. Although Warner Bros. and Max have not provided an official reason for the removal, industry insiders suggest that it's part of Warner Bros. Discovery's ongoing cost-cutting measures following the 2022 merger. Reports from Variety in 2023 indicated that the company chose not to renew licensing deals for several popular titles to reduce content costs.
While some speculated that these removals could be temporary, insiders confirmed that these titles are unlikely to return. This has sparked frustration among Looney Tunes fans, who have called for greater transparency from Warner Bros. about these changes.
Despite the removal of classic content, the Looney Tunes franchise continues to perform well, as evidenced by the success of Looney Tunes: The Day the Earth Blew Up. The animated feature grossed $4 million worldwide, showing that there is still strong demand for the iconic characters. Originally slated as a Max exclusive, the film had to be released independently after being shelved due to Warner Bros. Discovery's cost-cutting measures.

Final Destination: Bloodlines breaks franchise record with $43M opening weekend
