US citizen killed in Syria's Sweida last week: Source
Housam Saraya was killed last week during clashes between Druze and Bedouin Syrians in the border town.
Asked Sunday night about the reports, a State Department official told Al Arabiya English that the department was aware of accounts of an individual reported to be a US citizen killed in Syria and was looking into the matter.
'The US Department of State has no higher priority than the safety and security of US citizens,' the official said.
Some reports indicated that the victim, identified as Housam, may have been killed alongside his brother. A video circulating online appears to show Housam and a group of family members with their hands tied behind their backs before being shot by unknown assailants.
Al Arabiya English could not independently verify the authenticity of the video.

Israel says over 120 aid trucks delivered to Gaza in first day of partial pause
Israel said Monday that more than 120 truckloads of food aid were distributed by the UN and aid agencies in the Gaza Strip on the first day of a partial pause in fighting. On Sunday, Israel declared a 'tactical' pause in military operations in part of Gaza and promised to open secure routes for aid, urging humanitarian groups to step up food distribution. 'Over 120 trucks were collected and distributed yesterday by the UN and international organizations,' COGAT, an Israeli defense ministry agency overseeing civilian affairs in the Palestinian territories, said in a post on X on Monday.
