Schools to recite ‘Pasayadan' on Aug 14 to mark Sant Dnyaneshwar's 750th birth anniversary
The decision comes ahead of Gokulashtami and Independence Day on August 15, when schools will be busy with celebrations. The move aims to give focused attention to the birth anniversary of the 13th-century saint. Pasaydan is a popular and widely known prayer in the Marathi language, composed by the 13th-century saint-poet Sant Dnyaneshwar. It's a prayer for the well-being of all beings, seeking universal peace, prosperity, and spiritual enlightenment. The prayer is considered to be beyond religion, caste, and time, making it inclusive and relevant to all.
The order, issued by Undersecretary Tushar Mahajan to the Commissioner of Education, has been circulated to all government, private, Zilla Parishad, municipal, and aided schools.
Several schools have already begun preparations, integrating the recitation with Independence Day activities. 'Pasayadan promotes values of peace and harmony that are vital for children,' said Rajendra Patil, teacher at ZP Primary School, Velhe.
Some schools HT spoke to said they have not yet received the official communication.

School education department to hold silambam exhibition
In an effort to throw light on silambam, the School Education department is conducting an exhibition on the martial art to mark National Silambam Day on August 10. The one-day exhibition hosted at the Egmore museum will feature 50 rare and historically significant silambam weapons which are used in combat silambam, decorative silambam, sports silambam, fitness, and archaeological Silambam. 'These weapons were sourced from the masters of silambam from their personal collection present across the State. They trained the students of the government model school who will showcase their talent at the exhibition,' an official from the School Education Department said. Apart from the various weapons used in silambam, the exhibition will also feature palm-leaf manuscripts with silambam references. Further, 75 silambam masters who contributed to the exhibition will also speak about the art along with the students trained by them. As many as 38 government model school students from across the State will also showcase the martial art in the evening. 'They have been undergoing training for the past year as part of the holistic development of co-curricular activities that takes place in the model schools. Each school has a dedicated trainer who conducts classes three days a week,' the official added.

Tiranga Yatra to be held today
Surat: At least 10,000 people are likely to gather for a Tiranga Yatra being held at Y Junction on Dumas Road on Sunday. Decorations and lighting have been put up around the spot for the celebration. Celebrations organized by the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) under the 'Har Ghar Tiranga – Har Ghar Swachhta' campaign ahead of Independence Day began on Aug 2, and several related activities have been carried out. For various events, a budget of about Rs 1.5 crore has been approved by the SMC. Of this, Rs 90 lakh was approved for the Tiranga Yatra to be held on a 2km route on Sunday. Earlier, a Tiranga-themed quiz was organized at SMC-run Suman High Schools, to instil national pride among students and make them aware of the historical and cultural importance of the tricolour. A total of 1,199 students, 569 boys and 630 girls, from 29 schools, participated. Through the MyGov website, at least 2,051 students took part in the online quiz. The municipal school board held a letter-writing activity at all schools, in which 5,445 students participated. Students wrote messages and made rakhis for soldiers and police personnel, which will be sent through the postal department. Various activities are planned across 390 schools and different parts of the city. These include wall cleaning and decoration with Tiranga-inspired art, rangolis, cleanliness drives, drawing competitions and rallies. Major roads, traffic circles, markets, shopping centres and transport hubs have been decorated with the tricolour theme, and selfie points have been created to encourage public participation. Ward-wise cleanliness drives, flag-hoisting events and cultural programs are also being held, involving elected leaders, citizens, NGOs and students from schools and colleges.
