Speaking to the PA news agency at the presentation, Southgate said: 'It's lovely to be recognised by the players because the last 10 years in particular, how the players felt has been really important to me.

'Getting an award like this makes you realise you're getting old but other than that everything's good.'
Southgate has not worked in management since leaving the England job after Euro 2024, despite being linked with several potential roles. The 54-year-old said he had not closed the door on a return, but did not sound like a man in a hurry to get back into a dugout.
'I'm enjoying my life,' he said. 'I've got quite a lot on. I'm in the middle of writing a book, I've got several interests.
'I do work on leadership, helping some young coaches. But I've also got time to travel and play a bit of golf and a bit of paddle tennis. I'm very much enjoying that balance.
'You can't say never to anything because 15 years ago I left Middlesbrough and I wasn't sure I would manage then and I ended up on a strange path into managing the national team. But it's not something I'm actively looking at at the moment.'
A statement from the PFA announcing Southgate's award read: 'He is widely credited with breathing new life into the national team by integrating a new generation of young talent.
'He has overseen a period of unrivalled achievement by the men's national team, and has been an outstanding ambassador for the game – forging genuine connection between the country, the supporters, and the players.'
Wrexham defender Conor Coady, part of Southgate's squad at Euro 2020, was also at Tuesday's awards and praised his former boss as 'an incredible man and incredible person'.
'I think what he's done for England and where he took England to was outstanding,' Coady told PA. 'As a person, I could speak about good people all day and he is one of them.
'What he's done for me individually, what he's done for the a team when I was part of the England setup was absolutely amazing. He fully deserves everything he gets.'
Hayes was honoured by the PFA for her contributions to women's football. As Chelsea manager, Hayes guided the Blues to seven Women's Super League titles – including five in succession – as well as winning the FA Cup five times and the League Cup twice.
Hayes left Chelsea in the summer of 2024 to become head coach of the United States women's team, with her side going on to win gold at the Paris Olympics.
'Beyond on-pitch success, it is Hayes' approach to leadership and relentless innovation that has paved the way for progress in women's sport,' the PFA said.

Sam Kerr fans go berserk over Matildas star's HUGE news
Matildas star Sam Kerr has insisted there's no reason why she can't get back to her prolific goal-scoring best as she reveals she's on the verge of her long-awaited playing return with Chelsea. Kerr hasn't played for club or country since tearing her ACL on a Chelsea training camp in January 2024. Her rehabilitation has had setbacks, including requiring further surgery earlier this year, while she also endured a high-profile court case in February. There is still no fixed date for her return but Kerr is now back training with her teammates, who have been on a training camp in the Netherlands. Australia's greatest goalscorer, who has enjoyed a trophy-laden six years at Chelsea, backed herself in to deliver when she returns for her club. 'My contribution is goals; it's as simple as that,' Kerr told Chelsea's website. 'For the last, however many years, I've been within the top goalscorers, if not the top goalscorer in the team, and that's where I want to come back to, I've got high expectations of myself. 'I have a lot of confidence in my ability, so the contribution for me is straightforward. It's goals. That's what I'm here to do, and that's what I normally do, so there's no reason why I can't do it again.' Kerr has relished her return to more regular programming at Chelsea, who open their season against Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on September 5, after her horror injury run. 'During an injury, you're alone a lot,' Kerr said. 'So it's good to be back with the girls, just doing the same training sessions as them rather than solitary rehab sessions. 'It's nice to be back with the girls, back on the pitch, and yeah, I'm excited. I'm most looking forward to being out there, scoring goals and having fun.' Soccer fans couldn't contain their joy over the update. 'LFG!!!!!!' one wrote on X. 'This year will be next level!' added another. 'Coming for that golden boot,' wrote another fan, referring to the award for the world's best player. 'The moment she steps back onto the pitch will be glorious,' another commenter wrote. Kerr's enthusiasm will be welcome news for Matildas coach Joe Montemurro, who hopes to have her back firing ahead of next year's Asian Cup, along with Mary Fowler, who recently started running as she attempts to return from her own ACL tear. Chelsea will be especially keen to have her back in their attacking fold, with England dynamo Lauren James to miss the start of the season through an ankle injury suffered in the Women's Euros final win over Spain. Kerr, who has been joined by Matildas teammate Ellie Carpenter at Chelsea, is also keen to play under manager Sonia Bompastor for the first time. 'Sonia's very demanding as a manager,' she said. 'I've only been back in training for a couple of weeks with her, but I enjoy working under her and Cami (assistant coach Camille Abily), they're great.

Enzo Maresca hopes Chelsea can improve their conversion rate to aid title hopes
The Blues have spent around £160million on attacking players, all of whom played some part in Sunday's lacklustre 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge. Despite a new look forward line, the difficulty the home side had in breaking down Palace bore hallmarks familiar to supporters who frequently watched their team labour to create and convert opportunities last season. Chelsea ranked second in last season's Premier League in terms of big chances missed and placed 11th in percentage of shots scored. Their tally of 64 league goals was beaten by Brighton and Brentford and matched by 17th-place Tottenham, whilst champions Liverpool outscored Maresca's team by 22. 'I don't know if we (now) have more capacity (to score), but for sure if we've made changes it's because we think that with changes we could improve out attacking phase,' said Maresca. 'I was quite happy last year in terms goals we scored but with the amount of chances we created, I think we were one of the best in the league.' Strikers Liam Delap and Joao Pedro have been brought in to try and revitalise an attack which relied too heavily on goals from defence and midfield during the last campaign, though both players struggled to make an impact in the draw with Palace. Nicolas Jackson was the team's only senior striker last season but suffered a goal drought which lasted almost five months between December and May, whilst teenager Marc Guiu failed to score in the league. Both players also spent significant time out injured. Neither is set to play a role at Stamford Bridge this season with Jackson having been told he can leave and Guiu currently on loan at Sunderland. 'Hopefully also this season we can be a bit more lucky in terms injury,' said Maresca. 'Don't forget last season we lost Nico and Guiu. But if we are able to create the same volume (of chances) that we created last year I'm quite happy. Liam Delap, left, and Joao Pedro have bolstered Chelsea's attacking options (John Walton/PA) 'Hopefully this season we can be more clinical when we need to be.' Maresca reiterated the club's position on Jackson, who scored just 10 league goals last season, and has been made surplus to requirements following the arrivals of Delap and Pedro. The 24-year-old, who was suspended for the draw with Palace, will not play in Friday's trip to West Ham and has drawn interested from Newcastle, who are waiting for a resolution to their stand-off with Alexander Isak before deciding whether to move. 'We've brought two strikers,' said Maresca. 'The player (Jackson) is open to leave. If there is any good solution, he is going to leave. Nicolas Jackson will not play when Chelsea visit West Ham (Rafal Oleksiewicz/PA) 'It's very easy. It's not complicated. I've said already that Nico is a very good player. He can be even better.' On the new arrivals, the Italian added: 'Pedro probably in the small space gives us more than Liam. Liam probably gives us a bit more in terms of physicality and runs in behind. It depends on the gameplan. 'On Sunday it was difficult for any striker, but both are good and both are going to score goals.' Chelsea have accepted a £26million offer from Villarreal for defender Renato Veiga, the PA news agency understands. The Portugal left-back's departure would take Chelsea's total player sales this summer to over £250m. Renato Veiga is set to leave Chelsea for Villarreal (Adam Davy/PA) The Blues are poised to make a hefty profit on the 22-year-old having paid £12m for him when he arrived from Basel in July 2024. Veiga, who signed a seven-year contract with Chelsea, made just one Premier League start for them last season and six appearances off the bench. He spent the second half of the 2024-25 campaign on loan at Juventus, making 12 starts in Serie A. Chelsea have so far sold 10 players this summer and should Veiga complete his move, they will have recouped around £252m from 11 departures to offset the £277m they have spent on nine new players.

Aston Villa step up efforts to sign £60m Chelsea star with Premier League rivals also interested
Aston Villa are stepping up their efforts to sign Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson if they can make the finances work. Unai Emery 's side are cautious of overstepping the Premier League 's profit and sustainability rules (PSR) this summer as the manager seeks to refine his squad. Last week saw Villa sell academy graduate Jacob Ramsey to Newcastle in a bid to keep in line with regulations, just one month after the club were fined £9.5m for breaching UEFA's financial rules. Tyrone Mings and John McGinn both shared cryptic messages on social media in the wake of the sale which suggested that there may have been some unwillingness on both Ramsey and the club's behalf to end their partnership. But change is set to continue apace at Villa Park ahead of the transfer window closing in September. Chelsea are similarly motivated to get a number of deals done over the next two weeks, with Jackson among the nine players that Maresca is keen to offload to trim his overflowing squad. Make your 7 picks by 12.30pm every Saturday to win £1,000* Man City Fri Aug 2211:30 V Tottenham *18+, excludes NI. Terms and conditions apply Jackson is valued at over £60m and Villa initially asked about a loan with options to buy. But the Villans have been interested in the Senegal star for some time, with Emery having previously worked with the striker during his time at Villarreal in Spain. At Stamford Bridge, Jackson has been pushed down the front-line pecking order with the arrival of flashy summer purchases Joao Pedro and Liam Delap, with the 23-year-old absent entirely from Maresca's first squad to face Crystal Palace last Sunday. His move comes less than a year after signing a bumper nine-year contract extension - one season on from his Blues debut - designed to keep him at the club until 2033. Jackson scored 17 goals in his debut Premier League season and 10 in his second, but his at-times erratic playing style and hot-headedness drew as much criticism as praise he received from his manager.
