Admittedly, Pier Point is on the pricier side.
For three servings - a regular portion of haddock and chips, a regular portion of light cod and chips, and a regular portion of salt and pepper squid and chips plus a pot of curry sauce - it came to £38.
After paying and walking to the pier, my expectations were already high.
Despite the slightly steeper price, the portions were decent and we hadn't waited longer than five minutes for it all to be cooked up.
Opening up the boxes, the aroma of hot, vinegary chips and crisp batter filled the air.
The haddock itself was large and the batter was crisp and buttery.
The cod similarly was a good size and cooked perfectly.
The squid - which comes with a sauce of your choosing - was cooked just right, making it not too chewy.
And if my dog could talk, I think he would agree the chips were super tasty - not too greasy and never feeling like 'just potato'.

We found ourselves on the seafront having built up quite the appetite.
At the Offshore Bar & Restaurant on the harbourside we wolf down a seafood platter.
Plump prawns and steaming mussels are accompanied by fresh crab, hot smoked salmon and a delicate pan-fried sea bass.
The platter was created as part of the annual England's Seafood Feast — held this year from September 26 to October 12.
The event celebrates the best of the English Riviera's fish and seafood, with everything from tours of Brixham Fish Market to barbecues and kayak cookouts.
There are special offers at more than 30 restaurants across Brixham, Paignton, Torquay and the surrounding countryside.
At night, we take the fishy feast up another level with a £55 five-course tasting menu featuring bass, brill and more at Circa, the intimate restaurant at the Sandridge Barton vineyard in the Dart Valley.

I stayed at the UK's best B&B on the English Riviera – here's whether it is really worth the hype
BACK in the 60s and 70s, Torbay - made up of the three seaside towns Paignton, Brixham and Torquay - was dubbed what 'the south of France is to the West of England'. Adverts and posters then named Torquay specifically as an 'international resort' and 'the Queen of the English Riviera'. 9 The 25 Boutique B&B was named the best in the UK by the AA's 2025 B&B Awards Credit: Cyann Fielding 9 I stayed in the Shoalstone Suite, which featured a lounge area, bedroom and ensuite Credit: Cyann Fielding 9 And in the ensuite there was even a TV in the shower Credit: Cyann Fielding Today, these nicknames have stuck - with Torquay having a lot to boast about, including sprawling sandy beaches, a picturesque marina and vibrant palm trees. And now the town has even more to boast about with the UK's best B&B according to the AA's 2025 B&B Awards. The 25 Boutique B&B is located just moments away from Torre Abbey Sands - 10 minutes' walk to be precise. With such a location, it is hardly surprising the venue earned the award. And having stayed this past weekend, I discovered exactly why so many people love The 25. Inside the B&B, I was immediately greeted by funky interiors with every colour under the sun. The welcoming entrance is enhanced by one of the B&B's hosts, who was there to greet me. Andy, alongside Julian, runs the boutique B&B, which has a choice of different bedrooms and suites to choose from - all named after local beaches. I was headed for the Shoalstone Suite, located on the ground floor and next to a decadently decorated lounge with an honesty bar. The suite itself was split into a lounge area and a bedroom, complete with an ensuite. The best B&B in the UK has been revealed In the lounge, there was a plush sofa, TV, dressing table, bistro table, kettle and Nespresso coffee machine. The suite had a navy theme throughout, and in keeping with the rest of the B&B, featured quirky elements like a swans head protruding from the wall (not real, of course). Both the TVs in the lounge and the bedroom are kitted out with all you need, such as mainstream channels, Netflix and Prime Video. However, the best thing about the lounge area was definitely the two expansive windows stretching to the ceiling allowing daylight to flood into the room. But the room - and the rest of the suite - also had great attention to detail. An Alexa meant you could control the lighting with ease and ask travel related queries like what the weather was like in the bay. Hosts Julian and Andy also add a personal touch with a small treat offering, which for my stay was mint tiffin and a small jar of sweets. As for the bedroom, this was a delight too, albeit with the slightly 2007 interiors with silver furnishings, velvet headboard and glitter feature wall. 9 The B&B also has a communal lounge with an honesty bar Credit: Cyann Fielding 9 The B&B is located just a 10-minute walk from Torre Abbey Sands in Torquay Credit: Cyann Fielding The large bed was by far the comfiest I have ever stayed in. And for longer stays, there is ample storage such as a wardrobe and chest of drawers. Inside the wardrobe I also found another treat - the softest of dressing gowns. As far as en suites go, the Shoalstone Suite's was pretty impressive. A walk-in rainfall shower was complete with a TV screen - yes, you heard correctly. I even had a moment with Jimmy Carr in the shower (by tuning into 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown). Mood lighting helps you to change up the settings depending on your mood and the Elemis bathroom goodies added luxury to the whole bathroom experience. After an amazing night's sleep, I headed downstairs to where breakfast was served. 9 For breakfast, there is a continental offering with yoghurts and cereals Credit: Cyann Fielding 9 And the night before you can order a cooked breakfast - I opted for the eggs royale Credit: Cyann Fielding Guests preorder what they want the night before, making the service swift. But as you wait, you can grab items from the continental bar. I opted for some fresh orange juice and a homemade green smoothie shot while other items available include fresh yoghurt, cereals and berries. My breakfast choice was eggs royale, with a decent amount of salmon and golden oozy eggs - which were a real winner. I could see why the AA awards said the "breakfast remains a tour de force". The B&B makes a great base for exploring south Devon's beaches and Torquay's neighbouring towns - including Paignton, Brixham, Babbacombe and Newton Abbot. And just down the road there is also the best fish and chip shop in the UK - Pier Point. 9 Sunny Torquay is just moments away with a grand marina and the UK's best fish and chips shop Credit: Cyann Fielding In the evening, I had strolled to the chippy to test it out for myself. While on the pricier side, the portions were generous, the batter was golden, and the chips were deliciously fluffy. Elsewhere in Torquay, you can explore a grand harbour with extravagant boats, a Ferris wheel with great views and a theatre that often hosts top productions. As for whether the B&B deserves the award - it is hard to say. It was a great stay with amazing hosts and thoughtful touches - but I find it hard to believe there isn't a B&B out there that tops its slightly dated decor and car-park views. The B&B is adults-only and a room can be found for £287.30 for two adults for two nights (minimum stay). Here's more about the UK's best fish and chip shop, which is conveniently located close to the B&B. Plus, just a short drive away is one of the south west's prettiest market towns, that tourists always overlook.

Brit siblings, 11 & 13, who drowned on ‘dream' Spain hols were ‘water babies' who went swimming every day, family says
THE Brit siblings who drowned during their "dream" holiday in Spain were "water babies" who used to swim every day, their family revealed. She told The Sun: 'It was supposed to be a special day - the kids love the beach, they go every day. 'They've always been water babies - they'd been in every day. We had gone on holiday together there six years ago, so they were excited to go back and knew what to expect. 'It's beautiful out there. They were older, so they could remember, but their younger siblings hadn't experienced it before. So it was nice that the six of them were going.' Aunty Kayla said the family headed to the beach just before 8.30pm on Tuesday for their nightly swim, just half an hour after lifeguards clocked off. Ameiya and Ricardo Jr, known lovingly as Maya and Jubs, were in the water with dad Ricardo Sr, when the trio were swept up in the difficult waters, with the alarm raised just before 8.50pm. Kayla continued: 'They weren't even that far in - they've been going there the same time every day. It was just another day for them. Most read in The Sun 'It doesn't look like it's dangerous - They had like a yellow flag saying you're safe to go in, but just be careful. 'We've come to learn that the beach was dangerous; someone had died in the morning, the same day. A 54-year-old German man died the same day as the little ones. Heartbreaking tributes to Brit friends, 27 & 29, who both drowned in Algarve holiday pool in 'unimaginable' tragedy 'There was no word about it or anything - no warning. We've come to learn that there have been 16/17 deaths there in the past month.' Ricardo Sr desperately tried to save Maya and Jubs, but got into trouble himself in what was described as 'stormy' seas off the Spanish beach. Their mum, Shanice, had taken the other four children to the toilet before returning to the dramatic scenes. Aunty Kayla said: 'When it happened, my sister [Shanice] went to take the little ones to the bathroom. Then, when she came back, there was everyone everywhere.' Emergency services rushed to the aid of the trio, and managed to revive Ricardo Jr, and with Maya and Jubs, Kayla said medics 'tirelessly tried to revive them'. She said: 'They managed to save Ricardo Sr Junior was airlifted straight to the hospital and Maya was worked on at the beach.' 7 Ameiya and Ricardo Junior tragically drowned off the coast of Spain 7 7 The siblings, known as Maya and Jubs, were enjoying a family holiday with their parents and four other children But tragically, despite the efforts of emergency services, Maya and Jubs both passed away - leaving the entire family devastated. Kayla said: '[Ricardo Sr and Shanice] are going through the motions, they're keeping it together. They wouldn't be able to do it without each other. 'This is the first holiday where there were six [children] and they hadn't been on holiday for some time. 'They've been doing everything they can to make sure the [four] little ones are engaged. It's been a difficult time for them.' Kayla confirmed that repatriation teams had been in contact with the family and that 'paperwork was ready' - with parents Shanice and Ricardo insisting they won't leave Salou without Maya and Jubs. She added: 'They are staying there until they can bring the kids home - they won't leave without them.' A GoFundMe was made by family friend Holly Marquis-Johnson in honour of Maya and Jubs, to help ' ease some of the financial burden' of repatriation and to give the 'dignified farewell they deserve'. Leaving a heartbreaking tribute on the fundraiser, Holly wrote: 'Maya was intelligent, thoughtful, and growing into a strong young woman. Ricardo Junior was playful, kind, and always smiling. 'They brought so much love, laughter, and energy into the lives of everyone around them.' The GoFundMe, which had a target of £15,000, has raised over £39,000 at the time of writing, with an outpouring of support from donors. In a statement sent as a voice message to The Sun, Kayla expressed her gratitude to the public for the overwhelming support. She said: 'We want to give our thanks as family for all the kindness and overwhelming generosity of the national community. 'Times are really difficult for everyone, yet people still sacrificed what they can to support our baby sister [Shanice] and Ricardo in this living nightmare. 'Our babies can come home now and we can all start grieving together. Thanks will never be enough, but sincere thanks from our hearts is all we can give you right now.
