Maha govt seeks IT data to verify beneficiaries of Ladki Bahin Yojana
Mumbai June 3 (UNI) Amid allegations that hundreds of ineligible Mantralaya women employees are availing of the benefits of the Ladki Bahin Yojana scheme, the Maharashtra government has sought detailed information from the income tax department about women who have filed returns to ascertain their eligibility, sources in the state secretariat said on Tuesday. 'We have forwarded the request to the Finance Ministry to share the required tax payer data and ITR filed by women in the state,' said a senior tax official. The BJP-headed Mahayuti government with allies drawn from Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) and NCP (Ajit Pawar) launched the ambitious Ladki Bahin Yojana just before the 2024 assembly elections in which 2 crore 67 lakh women applied and an amount of Rs 7,500 was deposited in the account of every woman for about 5 months without any comprehensive verification. Post-polls, the ruling alliance led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis ordered a review of the scheme to identify ineligible beneficiaries leading to disqualification of nine lakh women from the Ladki Bahin Yojana scheme. DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held a telephonic conversation with the chief ministers of the states of Assam, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh where rain-induced landslides, floods and flash floods have wreaked havoc, resulting in the loss of lives. In the government order issued by the Sainik Welfare Section, it has been clarified that in the sequence of the announcement made by the chief minister, this amount will be allowed to the dependents of fallen soldiers who make the supreme sacrifice, from July 26, 2024. In this way, now the dependents of soldiers killed in action will be allowed an ex-gratia amount of Rs 50 lakh. "Our brave soldiers have shown their indomitable courage and valour in protecting the borders of the country." Along with One Rank-One Pension, construction of the National War Memorial, an increase in defence budget, infrastructure have been strengthened in the border areas. The chief minister said that the state government is committed towards the welfare of the soldiers and their families. The ex gratia amount given to the dependents of the soldiers has been increased from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 50 lakh. The lump sum and annuity amount given to the soldiers decorated with all the gallantry awards from Param Vir Chakra to Mention in Dispatch has also been increased. It has also been decided to accommodate one member of the martyr's family in a government job in the state.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk calls confidence vote after nationalist wins presidency
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has called for a parliamentary confidence vote in a bid to demonstrate continuing support for his pro-EU government after nationalist Karol Nawrocki won the presidential election. European far-right leaders welcomed the election of the 42-year-old Nawrocki, a fan of US President Donald Trump who has said he will oppose the government's progressive agenda on abortion and LGBTQ rights . He won Sunday's runoff in the highly polarised EU and NATO member state with 51 percent of the vote to 49 percent for Tusk's liberal ally Rafal Trzaskowski. In a televised address, former EU chief Tusk said on Monday he wanted the confidence vote "soon" and vowed to stay on, adding that the election "will not change anything". His comments came shortly after opposition leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski of the populist Law and Justice (PiS) party said that Poles had shown him the "red card".
