Shocking act of rock vandalism is SOLVED after 37 years
That's what authorities in Paris were saying Monday after they recovered a bust statue of late rock icon Jim Morrison which had been missing since 1988.
The bust of The Doors front man - which was first declared missing from a Paris cemetery - was recovered Monday by investigators assigned to a fraud case, a source told Agence France-Presse (AFP).
The statue was initially crafted by Croatian artist Mladen Mikulin in 1981, commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Light My Fire singer's mysterious 1971 passing at the age of 27.
Authorities working under finance and anti-corruption probes were the ones to recover the statue, which had been missing for 37 years, officials said.
The grave of the iconic rock star - who sang classics such as Light My Fire, Touch Me, Roadhouse Blues, and Riders on the Storm - remains an attraction for rock fans following Morrison's 1971 passing.
Morrison's death has never been clearly defined, as early reports placed him in a bathtub after suffering a heart attack.
French journalist Sam Bernett said in his 2007 book The End: Jim Morrison that the account was a muted version to protect the legacy of the musical artist, the AFP reported.
Bernett said that Morrison fatally overdosed on heroin at his former Paris nightclub Rock 'n' Roll Circus.
Morrison was in the bathroom of the venue, which was on the Left Bank in Paris.
'The flamboyant singer of 'The Doors,' the beautiful California boy, had become an inert lump crumpled in the toilet of a nightclub,' Bernett said in the book.
Bernett said of Morrison to People in 2021: 'He had his head between his legs. He had white fluid around the lips and the nose, and his eyes were closed. I saw that something was very wrong.'
Commenters on The Doors subreddit had varied opinions about the recovered bust - which has graffiti on it - and what should be done with it moving forward.
'Looks rough. Wonder what the chances are of cleaning it up, or restoring it somehow,' one user said.

Another person said that the bust remains 'iconic just like it is,' to which another user joked, 'Grab a Sharpie, then.'
One user noted that 'so much Doors history is happening this year in particular,' adding that 'it's finally nice to get some news that isn't something depressing for a change.
Among the factors they mentioned included the recovery of the bust; a December blaze of a downtown L.A. structure known as the Morrison Hotel.
Also mentioned was the April 1 death of actor Val Kilmer, who played Morrison in the 1991 movie from Oliver Stone, The Doors.

Who is Max Martin? The mastermind behind Taylor Swift's new album The Life of a Showgirl
Taylor Swift just confirmed that her 12th studio album will be called The Life of a Showgirl. The star, 35, shared the news during a preview clip of boyfriend Travis Kelce 's New Heights podcast on Tuesday, where she also revealed a partial look at the album's cover art. The new record will include a collaboration with Swedish songwriter and producer Max Martin, who has worked with Swift on many of her past biggest projects - but who exactly is he? Max Martin, whose real name is Karl Martin Sandberg, was born in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1971. He began his career as the lead singer of glam-metal band It's Alive before he began to focus on songwriting and production. His big break came after meeting producer Denniz PoP, who invited him to work at Cheiron Studios and gave him the professional name Max Martin. There, he honed his skills and developed his personal sound - one that would later dominate international pop charts. Martin's first major success came in 1998 when he co-wrote and produced Britney Spears' iconic debut single …Baby One More Time - which remains a global hit today. He went on to create chart-topping songs for the Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, and Celine Dion in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Over the course of his career, Martin has written or co-written more than two dozen Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles. His collaborations span a wide range of artists. He has worked on Katy Perry's I Kissed a Girl and Roar, Ariana Grande's No Tears Left to Cry and God Is a Woman, and The Weeknd's Blinding Lights and Can't Feel My Face. His production credits also include work for Pink, Christina Aguilera, Maroon 5, and Coldplay. Martin's marker in the industry is his ability to adapt his songwriting style to each artist - which is why he has been able to work with so many. Martin doesn't give interviews very often, but in a rare conversation with Variety, he explained how this collaboration works. 'If you're working with someone whose point of view is really far from yourself, like a young girl in her twenties, the story needs to come from them,' Martin said. 'I like being around people who keep me curious. Experience might be one part of the puzzle, but beat-making and trendsetting, it's a young person's game.' He's also expressed that he thinks collaboration is the key to a great song. 'In the whole history of pop, from Elvis to Motown to Whitney Houston, great artists have had songs written for them by teams,' he said. Martin's work with Taylor began on her 2012 album Red, where he co-wrote and co-produced hits like We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together and I Knew You Were Trouble. Their partnership continued on 1989 in 2014, with Martin contributing to some of Taylor's biggest singles including Shake It Off, Blank Space, and Bad Blood. Ryan Tedder - another big name in producing - recalled a conversation he and Martin had about Taylor where Martin said: 'If she had, like, three more hours in the day, she would just figure out what we do and she would do it. And she wouldn't need any of us.' He also collaborated with Swift on her 2017 album Reputation, producing tracks including ...Ready for It? and Delicate. The Life of a Showgirl will be the first Taylor studio album since Reputation to feature new work with Martin. The announcement has excited Swifties - even more than they already were - especially because of the duo's history of creating some of her biggest pop hits. While Swift has not yet shared a tracklist or release date, her decision to reunite with Martin suggests a possible pop style - similar to work they've done together before. The full episode of Kelce's podcast will be out on Wednesday, August 13 at 7pm EST - potentially with more details about Taylor's album.

Dani Dyer is all smiles as she's seen for the first time stepping out in London after joining Strictly Come Dancing 2025 line-up
Dani Dyer has been seen for the first time since she was announced as one of the celebrities taking part in this year's Strictly Come Dancing. The Love Island star, 29, was announced as one of the latest celebrity in the line-up on Monday. The following day, Dani was spotted leaving her first promotional interview at a property in north London. The star looked effortlessly stylish in a white vest top paired with blue-and-white striped shorts. She completed the look with black sliders, a pair of black metal-framed sunglasses, and a chic shearling bag. Appearing in high spirits, Dani flashed a smile at the camera as she said goodbye to the production crew before heading to her next location. The daughter of acting legend Danny Dyer, who wed husband Jarrod Bowen this year, shot to fame in 2018 on the ITV2 dating show when she bagged the £50k prize with Jack Fincham. Speaking about taking part in the new series of Strictly, Dani said: 'Getting the opportunity to be on Strictly is the second most amazing thing I've done this year! 'I feel very very blessed and cannot wait to get my dancing shoes on.' She joins a host of stars in the lineup which also includes actress Alex Kingston, 62, former footballer Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, 53, and Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, 36. Strictly's new series has been hit by a string of scandals in the lead-up to its return, including revelations that the broadcaster had hired a law firm to probe allegations of drug taking by two individuals. One of the stars involved in the drugs probe was also suspected of drinking while working on the show after crew smelt alcohol on their breath. The Sun alleged that it was widely known that the pair, who have not been named, took the Class A substance, and that one of these Strictly performers was known for being a drinker. The publication have now reported that junior members of the team were asked to keep an eye on them during last year's show and to look for signs that they may have been boozing during work hours. Over the weekend, a staffer also claimed they were offered cocaine by one of the show's stars. He told The Sun: 'The main partying is on site at Elstree after filming of the live show has finished. Boozing and drug taking goes on until 3am, sometimes 4am. The smoking area outside is a hive of activity. Cocaine gets taken there'. He went on to claim that drug use was so common on the show, that when he found a suspicious bag of white powder, an unfazed senior producer told him to 'leave it on my desk' as the incident failed to raise even an eyebrow. The staff member also said the show's annual special filmed at the Blackpool Tower Ballroom was an especially 'big party night' full of debauchery. 'I was offered cocaine by a star at an after show party. Lots of people would go back to the hotel. It was a closed-off party, just for the cast and crew. It went on until 5am, even to 6am, it was insane. People were wired and you could see it in their eyes'. A BBC spokesperson told Daily Mail: 'We have clear protocols and policies in place for dealing with any serious complaint raised with us. We would always encourage people to speak to us if they have concerns. It would not be appropriate for us to comment further.' The shock allegations come amid a long period of controversy for the BBC and Strictly over the past year or so. In July last year, more than six months after quitting the show citing 'personal reasons', actress Amanda Abbington accused pro dancer Giovanni Pernice of 'unnecessary, cruel and mean behaviour' during their time dancing together on Strictly. Giovanni rejected the claims immediately, and a BBC investigation ruled in September that her claims of physical aggression and threatening behaviour were not upheld. When BBC bosses published their report into Giovanni's behaviour, it cleared him of the most serious allegations of physical aggression, but upheld verbal bullying and harassment. Complaints of verbal bullying and harassment meant the BBC issued an apology to Amanda, but Giovanni said he was 'pleased the report has not found any evidence of threatening or abusive behaviour'. Elsewhere, the show was plunged into crisis after Welsh opera singer Wynne Evans made a controversial joke during his time preparing for the Strictly tour in January. He used a vile sexual innuendo and was also caught up in a 'wandering hand' incident with dance partner Katya Jones , who seemed to remove his arm from her lower waist on the show. After the BBC launched an investigation into his conduct, bosses decided not to renew his radio contract for his show. The TV star confirmed in May that they will not be renewing his one-year rolling contract following a four-month investigation after the inappropriate comments made during his time on Strictly. Elsewhere, in further scandals for the BBC, Gregg Wallace was recently dismissed from MasterChef after more than 40 complaints against him were upheld following a BBC investigation. While his co-star John Torode was also sacked after two decades over allegations that he used the N-word, which he claims to have 'absolutely no recollection' of. In separate further controversy, it's recently been reported that Naga Munchetty could face an investigation from BBC bosses after she was accused of bullying a junior colleague. The BBC Breakfast host, 50, has been placed 'under review' while bosses consider escalating complaints to a formal investigation, The Sun reports. A source said higher-ups had heard from several colleagues and logged concerns over her 'hard' and 'bullying' behaviour on the breakfast show, as well as her Radio 5 Live show.

The UK airport hotel with spaceship pod-like rooms – and it is right inside the terminal
IF you have a super early or super late flight, then a stay at Yotelair can fix all your problems. Here is everything you need to know about the London Gatwick Airport hotel. Where is Yotelair? You can't get much closer to Gatwick Airport that Yotelair - the hotel is one floor below the main terminal. It is just around the corner from the airport shuttle too, so it is ideal for both North and South Terminal departures What is the hotel like? The airport is, as to be expected - compact, being not much more than a base. However, it doesn't feel too cramped, with bright lighting lining the corridors to show you the way to your rooms. The hotel has also recently launched their £15 'Slayover Concierges' kit in collaboration with Gillian Anderson's wellness drinks brand, G Spot which can be purchased at the hotel. There are three to choose from - the Moment of Pause kit pillow sprays and G Spot Soothe; Rest & Reset kit with eye mask, vitamin gummies and G Spot Protect; and Power Up Kit, with protein balls, face masks and G Spot Lift. What are the rooms like? The rooms felt more like being in a spaceship pod that an airport hotel. Each of the rooms bizarrely had their main window facing out to the corridor, although thankfully there were blinds for privacy. I certainly had fun waiting for my friend to arrive, only to be able to wave to her from my bed through the massive panes of glass. Like other Yotel hotels, the beds can go from upright to fully flat with the click of the button, maximising the space. I don't recommend lying it down until you are ready for bed, as it takes up most of the room. But the classic white and purple hued 'pod' had all you need - side tables, charging ports, a full length mirror and even a foldaway table and chair underneath the huge TV. Another thing to be aware of is the bathroom, which is also half wall, half glass. There is a privacy 'curtain' in front of the toilet and shower (with towels and Urban Jungle toiletries provided) but make sure you are staying with someone you are already close to. You can choose from standard singles to premium Queen rooms, with some of them even having bunkbeds. Rooms start from £105 a night. Check in from 6pm, check out at 9am. 4 4 What is there to eat and drink? Being right by the airport, don't expect a full restaurant service. The hotel does have a snack menu, pizzas, curries and noodles. I was impressed with the Papa Johns pizza that they delivered to my door, with the tomato-filled crusts extremely gooey for just £7. You can also order continental breakfast for £7.95, to have their or to go which includes cereal bars, yoghurt, croissants fruit and a hot drink. Otherwise just hop into the lift and go a floor up, and have all of the terminal restaurants, from Pret to Wagamama. Is the hotel family friendly? The hotel has twin rooms that can sleep up to two adults and one child, or one adult and two children. Is there access for guests with disabilities? There is a lift down to the hotel, and there are accessible rooms too. Features include step-free access with widened doorways, accessible work desks, and shower seats and grab bars in the bathroom as well as a height-adjusted sink. Looking for a place to stay?
