Johor police nab three foreigners over brutal stabbing of disabled cabbie
Seri Alam district police chief ACP Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said that the men were arrested at the workers' dormitory in Desa Cemerlang at around 2.30 am on Sunday.
'The three suspects have been remanded for four days till Thursday for further investigations,' he told Bernama last night.
The taxi driver, Mohd Zulkefli Mydin, 40, was stabbed in the abdomen and left thigh and also had his left wrist slashed during the attack and was taken to the Sultan Ismail Hospital for emergency treatment at about 10.30 pm the day of the attack. — Bernama

REMBAU, July 29 — Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof confirmed that a six-year-old boy whose body was discovered buried in a remote area in Rompin, Jempol, was killed by strangulation with a cable tie, following a post-mortem at Rembau Hospital. 'The autopsy revealed the boy died due to pressure from a cable tie around his neck,' he said when contacted by Bernama today, adding that the case is now being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. The investigation first began under Johor police jurisdiction, classified under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 and Section 323/18 of the Domestic Violence Act and Missing Persons procedures. Ahmad Dzaffir said the suspect is still in remand in Johor, but will be brought to Jempol for further questioning in the coming days. 'We will also be recording statements from witnesses, particularly the victim's mother,' he added. Meanwhile, Jempol police chief Supt Norhisham Mustapar said a hoe, believed to have been used by the suspect to dig the boy's grave, was recovered from a secluded area near Jalan Bahau-Rompin. Police had discovered the victim's body around 4.30 pm yesterday, after a tip-off led them to the burial site. Earlier, Iskandar Puteri police chief ACP M Kumarasan confirmed that a man had been remanded for seven days from July 25 to assist with the murder investigation. The suspect lodged a police report in Bukit Indah on July 24, claiming the boy had gone missing. Kumarasan said the man first told police the child had disappeared around 4 pm on July 23 after being left alone in a car while the suspect went out to buy food. The case was initially classified under Section 182 of the Penal Code for lodging a false report. — Bernama

(Bernama pic) KUALA LUMPUR : The immigration department arrested 171 foreign nationals in a one-hour enforcement operation around the Jalan Masjid India area, here, today. Immigration department enforcement director Basri Othman said the operation, which began at noon, saw 160 officers questioning 758 individuals, including 254 locals. They also inspected 14 business premises. Those arrested were from India, Bangladesh and Indonesia, and aged between 20 and 50 years old. Basri said they were detained for various immigration violations such as overstaying, violating visa conditions, and not possessing identification documents. He also revealed that some foreigners attempted to disguise themselves as customers to avoid detection, but their efforts were thwarted by the enforcement officers. 'Our officers were in the area from 10am to distinguish between the foreign workers and genuine customers,' he added. All the detainees were taken to the temporary immigration depot in Beranang, Selangor. The immigration department conducted a similar raid in the Jalan Masjid India area on Feb 15.

LENGGONG, July 29 — The Malaysian Army is still conducting an internal investigation into the death of a 22nd Commando Regiment member from the Grup Gerak Khas, with the matter currently under review by a board of inquiry set up by the force. Army Chief General Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan said preliminary findings suggest the incident may have involved issues related to the equipment used at the time. 'Early findings show that the equipment involved was rather old, which could have been a contributing factor. 'We are also carrying out a full audit and further investigation to determine whether the incident was caused by equipment failure or human error,' he said after officiating the final assault and closing ceremony of the 2025 Keris Strike Exercise at Felda Lawin Selatan earlier today. On July 3, Cpl Mohd Haswansir Julnasir, 30, died during Exercise Seaghost Series 1/2025 in the waters off Kuantan, Pahang. He was reported missing around 12.15 pm while conducting a dive using a closed-circuit breathing apparatus. His body was recovered by rescue teams on July 5, at approximately 10 am. Commenting further, Muhammad Hafizuddeain said the military adheres to scheduled maintenance procedures for all equipment and weaponry based on their service lifespan. 'Every asset has a life-cycle policy of typically 10 or 20 years and is subject to regular maintenance. 'We are currently reviewing whether these maintenance protocols were followed, and the investigation timeline will depend on the complexity of the issues involved,' he said. He acknowledged that the Malaysian Army faces challenges in managing ageing assets, many of which are legacy systems such as older vehicles and support equipment. Nonetheless, he said the Army continues to carry out thorough maintenance to ensure operational readiness remains at an optimal level. — Bernama
